  1. My pliers stay in the boat and I have another pair in my non boater bag. Once I start moving things back and forth, they are going to get misplaced or forgotten
  2. It's great to see kids involved in the outdoors. Looks like he had a great day
  3. Your lakes are 2 feet low??? I wish we had that problem. Shasta is down 77 feet right now
  4. Labor Day is the day all the fisherman here look forward to. It's the end of the summer and all the vacationers are gone and we get the lake back. Shasta Lake is a summertime destination and every summer, up to 2 million people visit. Now that they are gone, the temps need to drop out of triple digits and the smoke from all the fires needs to disappear. There's so much smoke it looks like fog.
  5. flukes and trick worms
  6. I don't know the details, that's all the Am told us, but backing the trailer off the road would not have damaged anything as the area was flat with and asphalt road in the middle of dirt. Maybe he didn't know how to back up the trailer and took a long time.
  7. It didn't happen to me but this sucked big time. I was doing live well checks with another guy for a Pro Am. After all the wells had been checked, we walked down to the dock for the blast off. After blast off, this guy was walking on the dock with all his rods and gear. I was talking to the TD and we asked what he was doing, if he was in the event or what. He said he launched his pro, parked the truck and when he met him on the dock, the pro had put all his gear on the dock and told him he wasn't going to fish with him because he backed his trailer off the road trying to launch him. The guy asked the TD to DQ the Pro for unsportsmanlike conduct but the TD didn't, because the pro was a big name. He told the guy he could transfer his entry to another event. I don't thing this was fair as the Am drove 6 hours to fish. He could have fished the next day but would have been at a big disadvantage. The Am was *** and said he paid for the entire year and wanted all his money back. I don't know if he got it or not
  8. I agree with Jig Man. Make it easy, get a 3 bank charger
  9. Wow, I didn't even think to look at the date. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe this can help someone else
  10. Take the treble hooks off your crank bait and use a siwash hook on the rear. Your hookup ratio might go down slightly but you'll get hung up a lot less
  11. Wait a few weeks, Berkley is coming out with a knock off Plopper that is supposed to sell for under $10. It's called a Choppo https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Berkley_Choppo/descpage-BCH.html
  12. When are you bending them? When you're fighting a fish or just reeling in?
  13. If you don't want to stay with the bright yellow, try Daiwa J braid x8 multi color. As the name suggests, it has multi colors and is easy to see on the water.
  14. A Deps Buzzjet wake bait is my #1 choice. It's been the best producer for me over the years. When the water is flat, I crawl it just fast enough so it makes a commotion. When there's a ripple, I speed up the retrieve to make a lot of noise.
  15. I'm surprised your state has a season, since the Eurasians are classified as an invasive species
  16. No need to wait for Saturday. I've been shooting Eurasian doves with an air gun. No season, no limit in Ca. They're plentiful and almost the size of pigeons. Great eating too.
  17. How about this one I caught? Smallie coloring and markings on the cheek, but spotted bass markings on the body
  18. If you're interested in Lowrance, call them and ask about the refurb units. They have all new guts and the same warranty as new. A friend just bought two refurb Hook7's for less than a new Hook5.
  19. I have all the same rods and reels. The rods are different actions and/or lengths. All my spinning reels are the same, as well as my bait casting reels. The reason is it makes it easier for me. Whenever I pick up a different rod, I know the reel is going to be the same, the drag is in the same place, adjustments are in the same place. I don't have to think about which reel is on the rod I'm using at the moment
  20. I use water based paints but I take all the paint off before painting again. Yes, you can just prime over the old color but with each coat of paint, you take a chance of losing the fine details on the lure body. Water based paint comes off with warm soapy water and a toothbrush.
  21. I use Stabil and QuickKleen every time I buy gas
  22. deleted, double post
  23. A fast and easy way is clear nail polish. "Hard As Nails" works good. Just use a thin coat
  24. I fish mostly deep reservoirs so there isn't much to flip. I've been taken on trips to the Ca Delta where there's enough tules, stumps and other stuff where you can flip all day if you want to. What I've noticed is most guys who flip run the bank too fast. They flip into a hole or pocket, pull it out and flip into another spot. I watch where they flip, but not for the obvious reason, so I can flip somewhere else. I always flip right into the same hole they do. They pull their bait out so fast the fish sometimes doesn't have time to react. When I flip into the hole, I let the bait sit . More often than not, I will get bit. The guys who are catching a lot of fish flipping are taking their time going down the bank. The guy who took you didn't necessarily want you to catch the fish by letting you flip into the hole first.
  25. sometimes I cut a short piece of 50/60# mono and stick it thru the worm and thru the eye of the hook. Then I cut it off flush on both sides of the worm. This seems a lot easier than trying to affix a wire to the hook
