Fishing gear prices due to Covid?
A lot of places, not just fishing stores, are offering discounts just to get some cash flow. Unfortunately, shutting down the store doesn't shut done the bills. They realize people will be concentrating more on food, now that a lot of people have lost their incomes and the craziness that's taking place at grocery stores. Most of the discounts are on the higher profit items. so they will still make some money on the sales. No one can break even and stay in business

Are any lakes closing in your area?
Clear Lake, one of the most popular lakes in Ca for tournaments and big fish, has been closed by the county. All of the ramps are blocked and have signage. Anyone caught on the lake will be fined $500.

any tackle shops open?
Are the tackle shops still open where you live? California has a state wide lockdown but the local Sportsman's Warehouse is open as well as the local "pro shop". Sportsman's has cut back on their hours and only allowing 50 people in the store at any time. The small shop is open but not letting anyone into the store. You have to call and they will give you your order at the back door.

Are any lakes closing in your area?
7 counties are now in "shelter-in" mode. No travel except for essential things, food, gas, etc. I don't think it would be wise to be towing a boat around

Top Water Bait Suggestions
Here are my suggestions. For a prop bait, check out the Deps Buzzjet. Either size works. For a walking/spitting bait, take a look at the Evergreen SB. One of the easiest baits to walk and it has a cupped face so you can make it spit too. It is weighted in the tail end so it sits in the water at an angle, increasing your bite/hook up ratio. Neither lure is cheap, but worth having in your tackle box

Opinions needed on boat cover/vents
When I kept my boat outside, I used a cover and also one of those blue or gray plastic tarps. Never got wet inside. Like others have mentioned, make sure you tent a couple of areas so the water can run off.

DIY Portable Livewell
Who gave you permission to stock the pond? The owner or Fish and Wildlife? If you don't have permission from Fish and Wildlife, be very careful what you do. It might be illegal in your state to move fish from one body of water to another. And, you don't want to be stopped with more than the legal limit in your possession.

Crankbait Finish Protection?
Try a can of this. It dries fast and provides a tough coat of protection https://www.walmart.com/ip/Seaside-Rust-Oleum-American-Accents-2X-Ultra-Cover-Gloss-Spray-Paint-12-oz/988585089?wl13=2537&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222222139590590&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=e&wl1=o&wl2=c&wl3=74904298584993&wl4=pla-4578503869225090&wl5=&wl6=&wl7=& wl10=Walmart&wl12=988585089_0&wl14=Rustoliuum X-2 spray&veh=sem&msclkid=ffd3e7c54caa193b7fc5b9838555637f

FG Knot slipping
I had the same problem and I switched to the Alberto knot. Much easier and you don't need 3 hands to tie it

Is the Bull Shad really worth it?
As mentioned, $14 is not expensive for a swim bait, especially one that catches fish. Here on the west coast, almost every bass shop has swim baits that cost $40-$90 and my local shop can't keep them in stock. Here's an expensive bait https://www.ebay.com/itm/HINKLE-TROUT-SHAD-LURES-FISHING/312884013937?hash=item48d9572b71:g:q4EAAOSwU4hd8Feu

Favorite Prop Bait ?
My most productive, and of course favorite, prop bait is the Deps Buzz Jet. Either size works equally well

Suggestions for kids to paint crankbait blanks for fun?
There's no need to buy an airbrush to get started. you can use water based airbrush paints and apply them with a small brush. Before she paints, scuff up the body with a Scotch Brite scouring pad, so the paint won't run. It doesn't take much to scuff it, just rub it a little. If your daughter doesn't like the results, she can wash it off. If she likes it and wants to fish with it, go to Walmart and get a can of Rustoleum 2X Clear Gloss spray to seal the paint. A cheap pair of forceps clamped to one of the hook rings will hold the lure securely so she can turn it as she paints. Have fun

Winter Tackle Organization
I just started reorganizing this morning. I took all the baits and boxes out of the boat. The stuff I forgot was in there or I haven't used in a couple of years, is going into a box and I'm going to give it to my neighbor. No sense keeping them as they will just take up space somewhere else. I'm going to get several Plano boxes and try to stay organized from now on. But, everyone knows how that goes. LOL

Loooong Drop Shot dropper
Using a dropper that long won't work. You will have a tangled mess when you catch a fish. It will just keep wrapping around the main line as you fight the fish. A friend tried it one day and he had to retie after every fish. He was fishing 30 feet down, but the depth shouldn't make any different in what happens.

Cold Water Jigs
I've been using the tails from the gray squirrels I shoot. You can tie a lot of jigs with one tail and in my case, they're cheap. If you have a friend who hunts, ask him to save the tails for you. I salt the end where it's cut off from the body and put them in big ziploc bags until I use them

Otters
There are otters in the local reservoir and I've seen them in groups herding a big ball of shad. I'm not sure hey were catching and/or eating any of them though. if they were, they are probably eating the bass fry too. The California Delta has a problem with seals now. Lately guys have reported seeing multiple seals in the sloughs. The seals definitely are eating the bass as guys have seen them come up for air with bass up to 10#. They just eat the stomach area and ignore the rest of the fish. Yes, it is illegal to shoot them
