  1. Bears attack bass boats?
  2. I get email spam from Joanns every day since my first and only purchase there (made a kayak flag). Had to use my spam filter on them after trying to unsubscribe 4 times.
  3. I know even less about this triangle thing now than I did before, which was zero
  4. Garmin Strikers are very popular, cheap and loaded with features. I got the Garmin Echomap Plus 6 inch for $300 at Bass Pro a month or so ago (on sale). I love the bigger screen and it has even more features than the Strikers I looked at. Glad I went with that over the cheaper 4 inch Strikers. I wouldn't have bought it at full price. 300 was my upper limit. Excellent unit for the price. Edit to add: It's still on sale https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/garmin-echomap-plus-63cv-with-gt20-transducer-fish-finder-chartplotter-combo?searchTerm=echomap plus 63cv
  5. People do and are required to pack out their own excrement in some very remote places. Went Jeeping at the Rubicon once and everyone had hefty bags dangling from their jeeps, packing out everything, including their own waste. Those are the rules there. There are very good reasons for this. Also, stepping in raccoon crap wouldn't bother me nearly as much as some big fat human's pile. And where does the toilet paper go? Besides I mentioned crapping in the water, and most of the animals you mentioned do not do so either. We have bigger brains, surely we can do better. And yes it is more harmful than animal waste.... https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/expert-clarifies-differences-between-human-waste--livestock-manure-271866411.html More https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_waste This isn't a very big peeve of mine at all, but littering in general is. If I happened upon a human pile while bank fishing I'd be pretty disgusted. Sometimes you gotta go though - bury it at least and don't leave any paper behind, or simply stay home.
  6. Sounds like a good day to not fish!
  7. I agree with Scott F, that or something similar. You could also make the mount/board semi-permanent and use a wingnut to remove just the transducer when you need to. Lots of easy cheap ways to do this. J Francho (I believe) posted a thread recently about a magnetic mount, but I don't know if it will work through an aluminum hull. Magnet goes inside, the transducer and mount go outside. Something like that. The thread:
  8. Neither do they, but I think "emulsification" is a common word for bullpucky!
  9. Don't crap in the water man! If you can't use shore... - Bring a nice thick plastic grocery bag or similar. - Lay it on the floor. Or a bucket, whatever. - Squat and dump. This is actually a great position to completely evacuate your bowels. - Clean yourself however you wish. Or not at all, what do I care? Jump in the water for this part, just no logs please. - Pack it ALL out with you.
  10. Put a trolling motor on your pedal kayak. Best of both worlds.
  11. Go fishing and let us know!
  12. This industry is rife with maybes, "I think sos" and even total malarkey (mainly from mfgs). Nice to see a referenced study or two. I'll take two scientific studies over a years worth of dock talk, especially since dock talk is rarely consistent. Then again studies can be flawed as well. I just love fishing.
  13. Catching my PB was a total rush, I'd have to catch a lot of small ones to achieve a similar feeling. But I'm with Tom - numbers of big ones It's what I hope for when I leave the house.
  14. I can't cast straight at night. Only place I've tried is off my Dad's dock. Tried it this weekend. I have to side-arm cast from the dock because of the cover on it, so I think that's the main issue. I hear my bait land sometimes 90 degrees from where I thought I was aiming.
  15. I caught my Personal Worst bass on a popper (4 inches?), therefore I approve of this message. I'll add a BeetleSpin to the discussion (mini spinner bait). I sometimes throw a 3 inch Yum grub on it instead of the supplied trailers.
  16. I knew this was in Cali before I even looked up to see who posted. I haven't jumped in the water yet, but here is me throwing large rocks trying to free a jerkbait on the San Joaquin River. I wasn't catching fish and I was NOT going to give up a lure, even a cheap one. Sometimes it's just because.
  17. Calero Res. is so small you need a reservation to launch, power or non-powered, and they don't give out many per day. So in this one place I can fish in peace*. Well there were two Jet-skis or whatever spinning around and one or two other boats, but more or less had the lake to ourselves. * It was the windiest day of the year so far and we got our butts kicked for 3 hours before calling it a day. Yay. Did get to play with the new Garmin Echomap so that was a plus. Glad I went. I'm taking the yak to my Dad's on Lake Tulloch tomorrow through Sunday. Finally a body of water with good (as in alive and present) bass in it!
  18. Just to follow up, Coyote Creek is open and NOT a mad house. And it will not dry up when Anderson Lake is drained for dam repair. I was told that enough water will flow to maintain the creek, perhaps at a lower level though.
  19. Looks like a simple misunderstanding which can happen on a forum You're pretty safe in California to assume that the answer to any regulation question is going to be "no", unless you want it to be no in which case the answer will be yes.
  20. Ya same here actually. We have a few side-of-the-road lakes nearby but few bass and lots of rods in the water, many for carp though. People on Youtube only see the catches so it always looks "good". They don't see the amount of deleted footage with nothing on it but breathing, spitting and sighing. And thank goodness we don't have to use film or I'd be broke. I love the camera thing, I always have one on. Cool stuff man!
  21. There is not much bass fishing in the South Bay. It's really tough. Calero and Coyote are open to boating now with a reservation. Stevens Creek for electric only, as of now. Anderson will be drained this year and will remain so for at least 10 years as they attempt to rebuild the dam. They will supposedly keep enough water flowing through that lake to keep Coyote Creek and the ponds wet. That's what I was told a few days ago by a Sheriff. For bank fishing I'd try Uvas. Walk across the dam and follow the trail for less pressured and more accessible water. Good healthy bass in Uvas. Chesbro is terrible. Skip it. Barbless is required at Coyote Creek. Got my PB there but fish are hard to catch. Best area of the bunch for me though from the banks. Boating either Calero or Coyote (only options). Also check out Coyote Bait and Tackle. Good family run store with a lot of information. It's on Monterey Road near Coyote Creek kinda. Delta is your closest good (great) fishery by far. If you take Hwy 580 I know that Tracy Oasis Marina and, oh there's another one nearby I forget what it's called (few miles west of Tracy Marina), are both open to launching. Little over an hour from Fremont on a decent day. Fishing in the South Bay is depressing. I'm moving back near the Delta soon I'd skip the south bay if I were you and get to know the Delta, especially if you have a kayak or bigger. Being an avid angler in the South Bay is like being an avid golfer at the North Pole. It sucks.
  22. I can change the video to 1080 no prob. Edit: cool vid! Am I the only person in the country who doesn't have productive fishing spots right next to the road? All the cool kids on Youtube have 'em! Ponds everywhere...sheesh!
  23. That is a great video. I've seen most of Glenn's vids and I think it's time to watch 'em again.
  24. And it IS a high! Nice job!
  25. Good advice. I skipped it and started at the 2nd post
