ok ok we surrender you rule lol na i love looking at the awsome work you produce.
  2. i dug one of those banana molds out of a clearance bin at a local fishing show last year and love it. Its the main jig i used all last summer.
  3. I found some at walmart just cant remember what they called it.
  4. hey BigM i was just curious do you use photoshop at all to help plan out your paintjobs? or do you kind of paint as you go?
  5. i have the banana mold and football mold and mainly use the banana jig more. I hit on a configuration with it last summer that was doing real well in a 1/4 ounce size. 3/8 works well too. Im gonna look for a good head to use for timber.
  6. I actually found a pair of split ring pliers at farm and fleet and it works great for opening the bands to make the skirts. great tutorial by the way.
  7. CHROME BABY! race cars and fishin baits it all looks good in chrome!
  8. Have you tried using the c rigged crank vertically? What i mean is get over the area where you see fish just like what was mentioned above. If the fish are 30 feet down cast out about 30 feet, and let the sinker do its arc till its straight down below you. The sinker will then have 30 feet of line out and be sitting down with the fish and the crank will be right there. jmo
  9. i started making jigs last winter and used barlows first and it was definitly a great store to do business with. Got my stuff pretty quickly.
  10. Doing a youtube instruction video about airbrushing crankbaits? I was lookin around youtube and was running into videos about powder coating jig. I was wondering if any of you guys that are awesome with airbrushing cranks have thought about making a simple intro video. Something that could be sticky and people wanting to get started could watch. Maybe tell a little about your equipment, then just the basics for making a simple colored crank? Maybe show the basics of how you guys paint with the nets to make the scale effect. I think it would be an awesome resource to have for this website. Im not saying to give away any big secret techniques you guys might use, but just some basics for newbies like me to watch and get an idea of how we can go about painting crankbaits. just a suggestion
  11. kind of beats the color game dont it? Dont have to worry about choosing a color just throw em all at the same time lol.
  12. Alright I have a question about powder coating. I just started playing with this last weekend and I am having a problem getting an even finish on my jigs. I am using a heat gun and am holding the jig over the heat for about 20 seconds and then put the jig into the powder. When i pull it out of the powder paint. The powder is not melting instantly like if I did it with a lighter, but that is fine. Ill hold it back over the heat and let the powder coating melt and do its thing. The problem is on my ball head jigs when i do this i get a bunch of small little divits in the paint instead of a smooth finish. I know it doesnt matter to the fish but im one of those people that wants it to look real good lol. Anybody know what i could try differently? I was thinking about doing what i was doing with the heat gun but after i pull the jig out of the powder to put it into a toaster oven that I have. Would being in the toaster oven instead of over a heat gun help the powder paint even out a little bit better?
  13. Thats very cool looking and innovative. The only thing i can see is it might be a pain to work your fore finger around the bottom part so you can hold the line to cast. Of course i havent tried it so i dont know. But i like the idea of being able to have two fingers on the blank might give you more feel for what the bait is hiting or fish messing with your lure. nice work
  14. Thanks guys the closest thing i have is gander mtn i tink its like 45 min away i might go take a ride this afternoon.
  15. just wondering if they have powder paint in any retail stores. I have some time to kill tomarrow and want to play a little bit. If i order it now it will be here by deer season next weekend and then who knows when ill be able to mess with it lol
  16. all of my molds usually say eagle claw but i stick with the mustad hasnt given me any problems i havent lost a fish because of one doing something stupid yet.
  17. ive heard some guys talking that they use a heat gun to heat up there jigs. Anybody know how this is done?
  18. Yeah i think they make the skirt part of that separatley and then attach it to the grub body
  19. Yeah last winter i was playing around with a jig design and ended up producing a crazy swim jig thats different from many that are on the shelf, and has out fished a couple of them as well. There is no feeling greater than when you reel in a 5 pound bass on a bait that you created.
  20. Ty Harshman I painted a second one like it and it turned out alot better i just havent got a pic of it yet.
  21. Nice paint jobs BIG M I was wondering if the black dot on all of them was for the pattern of fish you were painting on, or if the black dot is a confidence thing for you? Ive heard guys that gotta have a black dot on there lure as a confidense thing Stupid question i know but just wondering.
  22. Thanks Harshman, I gotta bait sitting on the drying wheel right now ill go give the nail a shot. I got one bait done now and a pic I spray painted it all except the eyes. I was going for more function then look and it was my first time painting eyes so they look a little sloppy but i wanted them to be visible. I got the skirt pre made, but it was a bright white and I wanted to take some out so i held my red spray can away from the skirt and sprayed it and it looked pretty good. Im working on a second one like it to see if i can do any better.
  23. I just started painting my first spinnerbaits. I got the base colors all done and have made one attempt on a bait to do the eyes. They didnt turn out so good. I was curious about what you guys do to make the eyes on your spinnerbaits, or crankbaits. Ive tried making templates in auto cad and cutting them out with a knife but that is not working so well. Ive also tried using a brush but cant ever make it look right. any suggestions would be awsome.
  24. I like barlow's stuff its worth the wait. I order all my skirt material from them. getting ready to put an order in.
