I am a little concerned!
Just don't get your expectations too high! Florida fishing is nothing like the fishing shows make it out to be. Trophy bass are just as elusive here as they are in any other part of the country!

I am a little concerned!
Tilapia, gar (like a pickerel) Mayan cichlid (an invasive panfish) maybe some crappie. The variety isn't here like it is up north. Up there if the bass weren't biting I could switch gears and target something else. Not so much down here! ?

Rapala Jerkbaits
Those are the most common sizes. Walmart carries a good selection and Dick's Sporting Goods.

Shiner Fishing in Florida
Not my thing. I get bored easily and need to cast and move around. But shiner fishing definitely produces big fish! Good luck!

smallmouth bass this time of year
Has nothing to do with casting distance. What type of water are you fishing, lake, pond, river? Are you fishing shallow or deep? And where are you?

Do bigger bass bite more in the fall?
There are banner days to be had this time of year! I always fished the shallow bog ponds in MA, the bass were easier to find. It's all about being at the right place at the right time! ?

Yeah, that is pretty much it. You have a way to go! It is still summer! Lol It probably won't really begin to happen for another month. The air temp has to consistently get cooler to cause a steady drop in water temp. The shallow bog type ponds will turnover long before the deeper ones do. As long as there is open water, the surface temp. will always be a couple of degrees warmer from the sun.

When do you call it quits in Ma ?
I used to kayak fish right up until Thanksgiving. I can remember being out there with snow blowing around. Can't say that I miss that! Anyway, as the water gets colder stay with the shallow ponds. Fish are much easier to locate. Jerkbaits, cranks and ratltraps will usually get it done.

Summer / Fall Transition
We should be out of the rainy season by Nov. 1 and transitioned into much drier and cooler air. To be on the safe side I would plan a trip after Thanksgiving. The weather starts changing back to rain/humidity anytime in April. Where are you thinking of going?

Summer / Fall Transition
Winter fishing is much better down here in FL. Summer is a struggle. I have found August to be a tough month in general. When I lived in MA I always thought August was one of the worst months of the year! The fall feed seems to run the strongest in October. ?

Davie, FL - Help me crush an untouched honey hole!
Yeah, that sounds about right for FL this time of year! If the water is murky try something that gives off some vibration, chatterbait, spinnerbait, even a ratltrap. Any alligator encounters? LOL

Should have given Billington a shot. When I was up from FL last August I fished it quite a bit and did ok. You just have to go early to avoid the parking fee.
