  1. 4/0 minimum, IMO This is a good sub for the Miyagi and a near knock off ,if your local DSG stocks them. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/deathwish-swimbait-20jawudthwsh5cryplur/20jawudthwsh5cryplur
  2. 4'-5" swimmers work very well for me, so I throw them often. Megabass Hazedong Shad 4.2/Owner Twistlock Light 5/0 3/32 weighted hook. Skinny Dipper. Same hook as above. I do far better with the Hazedong though. Shown with an Oener 3/0 1/8oz weighted. Fish Arrow J Shad 5" and Berkeley Champ Swimmer 4.5. Owner Twistlock Light 6/0 3/32oz Weighted hook. Beast Coast Miyagi Swimmer 4.75"/ Owner Beast hook 1/4oz weighted. Far bulkier bait than the ones listed above. HF rods only. One Miyagi is rigged with a Trokar unweighted swimbait hook, but has two tungsten pagoda weights inserted into its nose.. Lighter hook for MHF rod. Weighted this way swims it slightly nose down.
  3. 5" Senko. Have bullet weights, O-rings and wacky hooks. T Rig weightless or add bullets weights where necessary Fat IKA. Rig one weightless and one with a 1/4 weighted swimbait hook. Weighted for denser weeds and weightless for edges. 5" Caffeine Shad. One weightless and one with an Owner Twistlock Light 5/0 or 6/0 3/32oz weighted hook Keitech Noisy Flapper. Rig one weightless and one with a 1/4oz weighted hook. A bait that can be fished weihtless on top as buzztoad or a super compact swimbait when weighted. Can be dragged or retrieved at different speeds to control depth. Casts like a bullet, even weightless. Swim jigs. Swinging and standard: Strike King Tour Grade Swinging Swim Jig. 6th Sense Divine Hybrid Jig . Your choice of trailers.
  4. The person who made the claim installed the Elite spool in a Fuego CT and found it exceptional at throwing lighter baits. More free casting than a SV.
  5. Is casting lighter baits better?
  6. Just a flash in time. There was a pretty girl. She was a fan, so... Ya know how that works. I still have a well worn record or two somewhere, but my psychedelic era is looong behind me, and so is she thank jeebus.
  7. What I'd like to find out is the location of drops and breaks within and just outside of casting range. Sweet spots.
  8. I knew he was getting a drone at some point for the camera and the bird's eye view we'd get out of it, but when he told me about the drop feature lures weren't the first thing that occurred to me. I was really hoping it could lift a Garmin Cast or Deeper Pro, but it can't. Close, but no cigar. That would've been great, and far more useful than fooling around with lures once or twice.
  9. Thought I was just making a light hearted post on a Sunday, but there's always gotta be one... There's really no point in moralizing on a site about a "sport" where you, me, and everyone else here gets their jollies feeding barbed wire sandwiches to unsuspecting wild animals during their fight for survival. You obviously don't realize it, but you're not a nice person either, and that's OK. Now go stick some and post a glory pic once in a while. You'll get a "like" from me if you do.
  10. I'm sure the novelty will wear off quickly. In the meantime two 50 somethings will be giggling for a minute. The real reason he got it is so we can find breaks and holes in weedlines within casting distance from the bank in places we're not allowed to use anything that floats. No boats or float tubes policy in my county.
  11. Getting that screw will not be a problem at all. You might even be able to get one at a quality hardware store nearby. You weirdos up there use the metric system, Aye?
  12. I'm pretty sure we've met before...while I was hallucinating.
  13. My buddy just got a drone with a drop/release feature. I'm going to load up a spinning reel with 150 yds of 15lb braid and he'll send my Shadow Rap Shad way farther out from the bank than humanly possible on a cast. 400 ft? It's snowing now, but we'll get into the 40's mid week. I can't wait. WooooHoooo!
  14. SDS usually shows a pic with relevant dimensions. Yup. Gotta try it out to see where it shines.
  15. Daiwa factory part. Model: Z02-5093. TTT had them in stock up until recently for $44.99, but sold out. Check with Daiwa.
  16. That's one option, but the chance of a novice pulling this off is slight using a hand held drill gun with a bit that small in diameter without it walking off the shank's face and into the frame, especially in a one-off situation. No reps. Might be tricky to even make a centering mark first having not done it before. Ideally, a simple shouldered drill bushing made to fit into the side plate's counterbore loosely but precisely into its through hole would be nearly foolproof. Personally I'd use the drill bit in a variable speed Dremel. Way easier to keep it square to the frame. Either way, if there's drilling involved the whole shebang needs to be meticulously masked to keep drilling fines out of the machinery. However, there are other options if the screw isn't cross threaded or blue Loctite isn't holding it from turning freely.
  17. If you didn't cross thread it when you were turning the screw it should've turned easily until the shoulder of the screw head bottomed against the frame. Therefore, the broken portion of the screw should be sitting in the frame somewhat loosely. If that's the case take a small pick, center it on the broken screw, then check to see if there's slight side-to-side movement in the frame. If there is, report back and I'll give you a 1st option that doesn't involve drills and extractors.
  18. The busted rod is good for spare guides if one gets ruined. Lemonade.
  19. I heard the casting distance wasn't improved, but the lighter weight bait performance was in a very good way.
  20. Better to have both. They're not really interchangeable. Before last year if forced to choose only one it would've been the G2, but the Jr got bit.
  21. The first half was broadcast only on FS1 today. If you don't have FS1, there's a link under the Bass Live video player on their site highlighted in blue for international viewers. If you have a VPN and it allows you to select a country, choose one far away and you'll be able to get the player to work when you click on it. I watched from sunny France today. But first, before you set your VPN, close the bassmaster site and clear your cache/cookies. Don't preserve Favorites website data if Bass * is saved in your favorites. After you've set the VPN you can open the page again. Takes about 30 seconds max. Enjoy.
  22. I just realized Lew's up'd the price on the Custom Pro SLP $20! Oh, what to do, what to do? I suppose I'll be patching up my bestest dress sneakers with duct tape and Krazy Glooo, again. I NEED that reel?
  23. You can get away with the right typical HF rated to 1 1/2 oz if you stay close to 1 1/2 oz max although, if the rod can deal with extra weight, you can get away with lob casting 2 oz. However, if you're mostly throwing trebles you should really stick to 20 lb mono. Enough stretch to keep them pinned and will also set decent sized jig hook soft baits. I have nearly every Dobyns Champion XP swim bait rod you can think of plus several more, but there are certain lakes I can't use them while wading. They're just too long and low hanging branches are a problem on the back cast. Where this is an issue I throw baits using a $100 Tatula XT 7'3" HF with a reel spooled with 20 lb Big Game mono. I usually stick to baits around 1 1/2oz, but have gone as high as 2 oz. No problems whatsoever. I can easily turn around and pitch jigs into pads. When I go out on my SIL's 8ft Sun Dolphin I'm limited to just a few rods. The XT is the rod I bring to pull multi duty as my small hard/soft swimbait/pitching rod. 5" Bullshad, G2 Shellcracker, S-Waver 168, Gantarel jr, Magdraft Freestyle 6/0 Beast Hook, Trash Fish, Jigs, T-Rigs with HD FLipping hooks, etc. It all works on this setup. Even heavy T-rigged big worms and plastics. Even Chatterbaits. I'm able to convert most bites on this setup.
