  1. Yeah, I haven't heard much anywhere either. Doesn't mean it's bad at all, and might even be wonderful, but if it was ground shaking like the Zillion G, I think there would be some more noise made about it. It's on my list though.
  2. Because your interaction with the group goes no further than asking rudimentary questions. Have you acknowledged any of the input you've gotten in any of the many threads you've started? I haven't noticed much of that if at all. You don't seem to follow up with anything to indicate that you actually go fishing either. Your lost fish/scale thread in fishing reports was pretty cool and is evidence that you're a real person, and probably a good person too, but short of that you come across like @Bass_Fishing_SoCal indicated for the reasons described above. When you first started posting, I thought you were just a kid who signed on just to yank people's chains around here. Sorry, just how I saw it. There's no rule against mining the group for info though, so...It's your choice whether to be a one way street or not.
  3. In the short term for newbies, yes. However, if the ceiling of "your" comfort level with a bait caster is high, then not really anymore. This depends on more than just an educated thumb. Your ability to feel how a given bait loads a given rod combined with how you gauge your casting mechanics for it is as big a factor. We have plenty of video evidence of what's possible with casting gear. You can watch another man do what seems to be very difficult or even nearly impossible and decide you can't do it yourself, or you can bite down and figure it out. The only limit is your willpower to learn through failure, but taking that track isn't for everyone.
  4. It just takes time and experience to develop an understanding of when to exclude certain presentations. You can be wrong a lot until you have an ah-ha moment, then the floodgates tend to open and you can do no wrong with a bait that has whipped your...
  5. Scrambled eggs and chicken wings? Why not? Yummy! ?
  6. You're right, but let's just imagine our boy is dead broke left to eat only rice and beans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so he can only afford just one lone jig. What would you recommend?
  7. Whatever you'd use a stouter 4 power rod rated to 1 oz for. Definitely, especially if you prefer a crisper action and don't mind a MH stick that runs a tad heavy.
  8. Jigs with horizontal line ties don't play well in heavy weeds. A weed collector really. Depending on head shape, vertical line tie types generally shed them far more effectively, especially when you're fishing them horizontally over distance where they'll dig deeper on the way back.

  10. After my last few sight-unseen rod purchases, I'll be calling the manufacturer directly to find out whether or not the model I'm interested in uses micro guides anywhere on the guide train. I'm not much for braid to leaders to begin with, just sometimes, but micros are a no-go for them "for me". Nope. P.S. My iRod Jr. Swimbait has them. Why? No clue.
  11. This has nothing to do with line. When gear meshing becomes noticeable enough to be called "geary", just tighten the spool tension a bit or ride your thumb on the rim of the spool while cranking and you'll feel it. IMO, "grinding" is too harsh of a description and not really accurate. I have a few very geary older reels. None of them grind though, and cast and retrieve as well as they ever did.
  12. This question will never die for a few reasons: Environment and species. In the really choked out lakes I fish, northern strain LM bass are striking reactively from ambush points. I'm talking about shore to shore high weeds with no hard bottom. There's no space to inspect anything, especially with moving baits. Perhaps the particular sound tight braid makes coming through certain green cover is a negative somewhere, but tight fluoro certainly sounds like something too. A guitar string maybe? Even if this sounds over the top, it still has a resonance I can feel, so it radiates. Is this less of a negative compared to braid in the conditions described above? Not in my experience. "Line sound" is a thing in open water too. Is one worse or less appealing than the other? I'd guess this depends on where. I happily use mono, fluoro, and braid. Nothing has out-fished straight braid "where" I fish and "how" I fish up this this point. This places my observations into a narrow band though, so they aren't scientific whatsoever. The settings aren't a true control. There are just too many factors and variables for me state conclusively that braid is better, worse, or a non factor. All I can say is I've observed that it hasn't hurt me when fishing the same bait at the same time in the same area as fluoro or mono. I've absolutely done this a lot, and if it hurt my chances I would stop. I like catching big bass. I also like consistently catching fish, which is the clearest path to catching bigs, and neither is the easiest thing to do around here. That said, I don't discount anyone's personal experience based on the conditions where they fish and the type of bass they're fishing for. They don't all behave the same way in different environments. If Butch Brown takes me out to fish where he fishes for spooky Cali LM, I'm doing it like Butch. If Paul Mueller takes me out on Candlewood for northern smallmouth, I'm doing it like Paul. Let the bass where you go fishing tell you what they don't like, and don't do that.
  13. Aside from being too fast or not, both will fold setting frog hooks. Not the type of swing I'd like to take while standing on a yak.
  14. For my curiosity, would you test this against the G? I've read claims stating that the traverse of the level wind compared to revolutions on "some" PE labelled Daiwa reels were no different than their standard type counterparts built on the same platform.
  15. Walk into a DSG and feel some for yourself. The one local to me has Dobyns, Fenwick, 13, St. Croix, ARK, etc, in your price range. Keep your receipt. If you break it they'll take it back no questions asked even if it has doody on it.
  16. The same as the Tatula SV, which is definitely way more brake heavy than the new Zillion with SV Boost. If you're struggling, the standard SV Air Brake will help. Over time you may be able to dial it down enough to where it'll be similar to skipping with anything else. Sort of like training wheels, you won't need them eventually. Metal frame and gear side cover. Metal set plate for the bearing and magnets built into the plastic side cover proper. Functionally it's essentially all metal once locked, but your hand won't get as cold palming it in cold weather.
  17. You just had to post this, didn't you. Drool...
  18. I've never been struck with the thought that a MF was iffy here because of sketchy results, but I suppose anything's possible. I've thrown T-Rigged skin hooked 4" Senkos on up to 10" Power worms on either a Tatula XT 6'6" or 7'0" MF spinning rod exclusively for the past 4-5 years, and haven't missed many at all from micro dinks to chunks. Also, I often use that VMC 3/0 wacky weedless hook with the metal wire leaf spring weed guard that everyone seems to hate, and have no problem setting it.
  19. Show a picture of how you have it rigged.
  20. YUM Christie Craw Watermelon Red Flake Black Blue Flake Tackle Warehouse has 30 packs for these color choices, and a few others too, priced at $10.99
  21. Never longer than a second for me, and that would be long. I'd rather lose my PB 10 times in a row than gut hook it. You're just asking for that waiting 5 seconds, IMO.
  22. Me too. My brother did the same thing you did, in a pinch, and found he really liked it for frogs. He pestered me to try it for awhile for the same thing and I ended up loving it after he lent me his. Works great for me and doubles for throwing Miyagis and Magdraft Freestyles rigged on Beast hooks. Don't let the price bother you. It's a good stick.
  23. Tight, but with a smidge of slip with straight braid. Keep your thumb on the spool and use it to lock it down to set. If you keep missing on that setting anyway, lock it down. That rod is very hard to break. I've tried, and so has my brother with his. Tons of hero hooksets on Owner Beast hooks, and dragging good fish in with 5 pounds of weeds covering them. Not awesome for your pinion and main gear, but they're only 30 bux to replace if they get geary.
  24. Contact him. He's typically very responsive when there's an issue.
