What size braid should I try on my spinning reel?
I fish it in some water that is heavily infested with zebra muscle, it frays like everything else, but seems to hold up about like other lines I have tried. Using a good FC leader seems to really make a lot of difference in its usability. I just keep an eye on it and trim and re-tie as often as necessary. Love the dia. and the way it casts.

Gliss 18lb on the majority with leaders as necessary. I do still have a few with 10lb Super 8 Slick.

Should I exchange my new deep crank rod already?
I find this interesting, I use a FALCON CARA CLC-5-176 Composite Deep Cranker which is only rated to 3/4 of a oz. I never feel like the 10XD is digging so hard that it overpowers this rod, actually quite the opposite. The only time I feel a lot of drag from the 10XD is when it begins rising at the end of the retrieve, it feels quite easy to retrieve through the zone with this rod and the Revo Winch.

A Revolver?????
I carry an LCR 9MM with speed clips. Very easy to conceal, reliable, and does not weigh a ton.

How much braid do you load on top of mono?
I hear you but I'm not buying it. Most of my casts are 40 yards or less, many are much less. I use braid for frogs and for pitching jigs. Usually a whole lot shorter casts than 40 yards, many probably not more than 10 or 12. I can honestly say that I can never remember reaching the tie knot prior to thinking that the braid was to the point it was ready for a change and I rarely spool more than about 55 yards of braid on top of the backing. I think the point your making works well in theory but fails miserably in practical every day experience. Your mileage may very, especially if you use braid as your primary line for all applications.

And with that same logic you will eventually use the 15 yards at the end of the 75 yard spool to break offs, tie knots and such. I think we will have to disagree with each other on this.

How much braid do you load on top of mono?
So I am trying to follow your logic with very limited detail. I hear you say that if I cut a 150 yard spool of line into 2 75 yard rolls and spool two separate reels there is twice as much waste. Is that the statement? My mind is telling me there is no savings, the waste either comes from the middle or the ends, it's just a choice. If you spool 75 yards of braid and typically makes casts of 60 yards then there is the potential for 15 yards waste, it will be less because of having to re-tie, but it makes for and easy number. X2 = 30 yards, both at the ends of the 75 yard rolls. 150 yard spooled on, same cast distance, 60 yards, 90 yards unused, flip it, 60 yard casts, 30 yards in the middle unused. What am I missing? Seems like you just end up with a 30 yard +- piece of line relatively unused vs two 15 yard pieces.

What would you do?
Using a GLX for a crankbait rod is the equivalent to using a Tesla for your Uber business. GLX for contact baits, you can spend a lot less and get a nice crankbait rod.

I love the posts that center around this question. I love the inventive, complicated, time consuming ways that others come up with for completing such a simple task.

Is my new deep crank rod gonna handle a 10XD?
If it were a jig rod I would say it would be a no-go because of the hook set involved. With a crankbait rod, I would think that your primary concern would be casting. Just don't try to cast one to the moon and I would think you would be fine.

Paca Craw, with a Rage Craw very close- What technique are you best at?
Post a pic or two of the baits you are making in your garage, would love to see what you are doing. One top water tip is to leave a lot more slack in your line when working the bait then you would think, if the line is too tight to the bait it tends to kill a lot of the action.- How necessary is a baitcast rig?
It casts the line to da fishes- Rate the song above you
Not my particular genre of music but I liked it more than I thought I would 6.5^^^^^^- Can I use a medium heavy rod to drop shot for bass?
You can use a cane pole to drop shot if you want to. A lot of the conversations here center around what would possibly be an optimal setup to fish a technique. That said it does not prevent you from using a tree branch, a cane pole, or broom stick to drop shot. Use what you have and have fun.- Who has knowledge/experience with the Orra Winch line of reels?
I have owned a couple of Revo Winch for several years, both have been fantastic reels, one is what I would call a Gen 2 Winch and other a Gen 3. Either makes light work of a 10XD. - If you could only use one jig trailer for the rest of your life, what would it be?
