  1. Other than casting lighter baits better they can also provide lower startup inertia witch can help with short-medium range accuracy. Also most JDM offerings have only a slightly shallower spool than USDM counterparts. The ones with ultra shallow spools are usually made specifically for BFS.
  2. Daiwa- With factories in Japan and Thailand Shimano-With factories in Japan and Malaysia These are the only that I know of, other than that most company's and store brands contract out to manufactures such as Banax, Doyo, Kaito, and Dawon to name a few.
  3. Quick trip this morning was a success.
  4. I prefer the slower reel because when I fish a higher speed reel i find myself fishing the baits to fast. Also I find it easier to speed up than to slow down. If I'm wanting to burn a spinner bait near the surface then I will use a 7.x:1. If you get a 6 speed and find you don't like it, a gear set for a curado is about 35 bucks then you can any of the three speeds offered.
  5. I have a Curado K (6.2:1) paired with my Fury 734c and use it for chatterbaits and my large Colorado bladed spinnerbaits. Also will through a swimbait on a 1/4oz Owner Flashy Swimmer on it.
  6. Either would be a good option. As far as drag numbers go, you would never use 20lbs of it in bass fishing and most likely the reel was not designed to sustain a 20lb pull for long. Though if you are willing to pay around $280 for reel I would import a Bantam MGL from digitaka or similar site. In my experience it will through everything in the 3/8-3oz range pretty well and is an excellent workhorse reel. It also just feels great in the hand is one of the smoothest reels I have used. And even though the drag is only rated to 11lbs it is one of the smoothest drags in a baitcaster.
  7. Just have had good success on them around here and also I have quite a collection of them from trout fishing.
  8. I plan on either pairing with a Aldebaran BFS or Daiwa Air Stream Custom. I plan on throwing mostly 1/16 oz Little Snakys, Yo-Zuri Pin Minnows and small Marabou Jigs in local ponds. Would like something longer than 6ft. Budget is $130-$200.
  9. Possible that it uses Ci4 side plates like the Curado K.
  10. Mine came in an orange box. I have seen them in clam packs before though along with the slx.
  11. Did Shimano copy and paste the look of the Ballistic LT?

Shimano SLX HG, Dobyns Fury 703c, 30lb Power Pro SuperSlick V2 Onyx, sometimes a 12-14b mono leader in clear water.
  13. I just want an updated version of the Zillion on a smaller platform.
  14. If you wait a few months there should be a new Ci4 model based on the FL.
  15. No part of the SLX XT is magnesium. The frame is aluminum and the side plates are a reinforced plastic.
  16. It almost sounds like the drag stack is wet or has moister on it. One of my Curados sounded like that after a kayak flip. New drag washers that I had laying around and a service fixed it.
  17. The Citica I is exactly the same as the Curado I except for 3 of the bearings aren't shimanos SR-AB (corrosion resistant) bearings. And the spool is only anodized once and not twice like on the Curado. I had two of them and they preformed just as well as my Curado I's and never had any problems with them wearing or going geary after heavy use on a crankbait rod and frog rod for three seasons. The only thing I had to replace was two of the break blocks because they had worn. If you can find then cheap they worth the buy. I payed $80 for mine new during a close out. Edit: after looking at the schematics the AR clutch is a different part number, don't know if there is an actually difference in quality.
  18. -Dobyns Champion XP 684c -Daiwa Zillion SV TW 1016SV-SH -30 lbs Daiwa J-braid X8 Chartreuse -15 lbs P-Line Halo leader -Z-man Project Z swim jig with a Rage Menace trailer Primarily use this for short casts/ skips to targets off of the kayak.
  19. I keep my topwater colors pretty simple something light, something dark, and something green
  20. I really like the Zman Project Z Swim Jig, skips well, stands up on bottom when stopped and comes through the grass pretty well. Haven't been able to find them for a while now though so this thread will help point me to some new options.
  21. Was able to get a few to bite while out before dark.
  22. A "nice" largemouth for for the ponds and lakes I fish is anything 2 lbs and up a good one is anything over 3.5 lbs.
  23. Sunline Sniper and P-Line Halo. Like them both and have confidence in both.
  24. The monkey found this on sale at a Sportsman's and is now demanding a new rod.
  25. Water was a chilly 38° but still managed to get one.
