flatfish lure
Not at all. You can cast these usually with spinning gear and the bigger ones will work with a good casting reel.

crankbait reel?
I would go with a 6:4 you can use them with just about everything.

The mother of all polls. Daiwa, Abu, BPS, Pflueger, Penn or Shimano?
There is a pretty large tackle shop in central Ohio and the guy that runs it bases his opinion of the best rods and reels on customer satisfaction (returns and such) rather than sales. He told me once that he doesn't have any more trouble with Quantum or Pflueger than he does with the Shimano, Abu or Diawa equipment. I guess that is a pretty good source. For me I use Revos and Curados with Revos being my number one choice I will buy a couple more Premiers before the spring season.

Like many of the older lures the new ones are not as good. Might shop eBay for some originals.

Best Bang for the buck Lures
I have to agree with Francho, best value are the low priced hard baits. I have fished with soft plastics for years and I am always replenishing my supply. On the other hand I still have crank baits that I used in the 60's and 70's that have caught a boat load of fish and are still producing. I probably paid less than 5 bucks for any of them and I am willing to bet that the cost for fish would be less than tenths of a cent. You can still do that with Bandits Norman Strike King H2O Bomber and a few others.

RIP Dick Winters
He was a good man from a great generation and an outstanding soldier. Thanks to all of the WW2 vets for your service and sacrifice.

Senko: Is it Evil?
I am sure we all have an " evil bait" that we can't get away from. Something that we can't stop thinking about or resist turning to when the bite is tough, could be anything. I think it is just that personal confidence thing again. The Senko is good, but it is not magic, I have at least a dozen baits that I will go to before a Senko.

lews reels
Lew Childres was an innovative pioneer and his original reels were as good as they come. If these reels are made that well they will become very popular.

Feathers or Bucktails for popper hooks ?
I don't think anything moves like maribou in the water. When a bait is still that stuff just keeps moving. However I think actual maribou is no longer available and something else has been substituted, but I don't think there is a lot of difference. I tie it on all of mine.

STX 2009 vs. Curado 201E7
Kent is very strong in his convictions. But I am not defecting and I don't see that happening around here, the Revos are the top selling bait casters at the local Cabela's store. And I see more of them every year. The Premiere and the STX are sweet reels I will be adding another Premier to my collection before spring.

STX 2009 vs. Curado 201E7
A big consideration here is gear ratio. You can buy Revos with a 6.4 the E7 is 7.01. I will go with the slower retrieve all the way. Shimano needs to give us the choice of a 6.4 gear ratio in that line up

tackle storage/non-boater/mainly soft plastics
I second the Plano speed bag. I like the Elite Speed bag FTO 4806 from Tackle Warehouse. These little bags are the way to go.

STX 2009 vs. Curado 201E7
I use Curados and Revos and I like the Revos much better.

Fenwick feedback
I have used Fenwick rods for years and have tried several models and actions and have been satisfied with them all and have had very few problems over many years of fishing. I don't think you can buy a bad Fenwick. Their guarantee and customer service is very good also. I can't say anything bad about Fenwick, their Tecna AV rods may be the best on the market right now.

Are Flukes the best??
That is a good looking bait, looks just like a gizzard shad. The video shows how to rig it and the guy catches a nice striper, but doesnt show the action of the bait. Guess I'll have to buy a pack to see that.

Are Flukes the best??
I don't use Flukes a lot, but some. In one small lake that I fish the bass jump all over them but otherwise I don't do very well with them. I think it just might be a confidence thing because I am not really satisfied with what they are doing. I fish them weightless and they sink so very slow and if you get them down a little, a few twitches and they are right back on the surface or jumping out of the water. They seem to never be more than a few inches deep. I don't use a hard jerk, but rather short, gentle twitches. I know you can weight them but I think this kills the action that they are noted for. I just wonder if there is a heavier, salt impregnated soft jerk bait that will fish a little deeper and still have good action. Are Flukes really the best soft jerk bait or do you prefer others?

Upgrading equipment, new to some brands, anyone got advice?
Pretty good line up RW, I agree with most of those. May not be the cheapest but will perform very well.

H20 Xpress and Lucky Craft crankbaits same blank molds?
Whittler thanks for that very infomative post, sometimes we need to see things like that and hear from people who understand why one bait is made better than an another. I will say that for the price you can't beat H2O hard baits and they do catch bass, but they are not equal in quality or craftmanship to the LC brand.
-
H20 Xpress and Lucky Craft crankbaits same blank molds?
I very seriously doubt that. Although H2O makes good crankbaits, they are not the same quality as Lucky Craft. I have several of each.

New baits & Techniques you want to try in 2011
I found a couple of new baits from MindaLures that I want to try. The Spear Craw and the Spear worms. Both have interesting action and I have heard good things about them. And I am a sucker for new soft baits.
