  1. LMAO ?. I’ve come to realize both myself and my wife are hoarders to an extent ( I still have a cabinet of 80-90’s era motorcycle & fishing ? magazines) even though I never got the bike?. I keep justifying my purchases to the BOSS ? by saying when I retire they will all be used. Good luck hooking into the “one” that breaks your frog rod?.
  2. I sometimes feel like I’m more interested in collecting rather than fishing ?. I have way too many combos but yet every time I take my dogs for a walk (daily) I justify every one and sometimes talk myself into upgrading (purchasing) one more rod/reel to complete the arsenal. This is why I couldn’t respond to the “if you could only have 1 combo” thread?.
  3. Here’s my contribution to this post. A 2006 5’-6” bionic ultralight, a 6’-6” bionic med power I won at a local fishing show and a performance series rod I bought (same year) with a 1000 size bps pro qualifier reel ( still love and use this reel) from a local newspaper ad. I have a balance kit/cap on the 6’-6” from bps that I really like. The performance series rod was my attempt at creating a split grip handle which I’m actually happy with ?
  4. So line, reel and rod are irrelevant?
  5. I know this will ruffle some feathers but the Piscifun Carbon X is light and a fraction of the price. Also has triple disc carbon washers. Just saying ?
  6. Nice looking combo ?? Love the “In God We Trust” logo. Although I don’t need it now I’m going to take a look at the rod because of this.
  7. Bass pro shop Carbonlite 2.0 combo right at $180.00. I have a 7’-0” med combo and it is one of my favorite do it all combos. Reel has dual braking system, comes right or left retrieve 6.8:1 or 7.5:1 retrieve speeds. Rod has Winn grips which I really like, Fuji fazlite guides and it’s all backed up with a great warranty.
  8. Purchased a bps Carbonlite 2.0 combo for $120.00, been very happy with it ever since.
  9. I have a Piscifun Carbon x in 1000 size. I really like this reel and highly recommend it. It’s available in a 500 size also. I just checked Amazon they’re right at $60.00.
  10. No offense meant but this is exactly why I prefer professional help? Wishing you the best of luck??
  11. I had a similar experience with St.Croix. I broke the tip off a 2 piece premier, I called and they didn’t ask for warranty or hesitate to send a new upper half. Don’t remember the price as it was over 10 years ago but I remember being blown away by the service and price. Glad to read about Okuma as I have 2 of their rods.
  12. I was thinking the same thing ?
  13. This is the same tape I was referring to. the op doesn’t sound like he’s planning on using it for more than a spare/kid/catfish rod anyway.
  14. My vote is for grip tape available at Dicks sporting goods, so should be available at any sporting goods store. I use it to wrap all my hammer handles it’s comfortable and it lasts forever. Bonus is you can really cinch it down and it’s as cheap as $4.99 a roll.
  15. Went out for about an hour before sunset. Dead calm thick weeds out to about 8-10 feet the key for me is getting past and keeping just above the weeds. Tried a frog first no luck, grabbed a road runner and caught this guy.
  16. Hit my local pond just before dusk throwing a frog and still can’t get a reaction. I’m going to keep trying ?
  17. I’ll second this information. When I first got back into fishing about 30 years ago? I had one reel, (a hand me down given to me by my brother) and one rod a 5’-0” ultralight I bought at K-Mart (for those who remember them) and I bought some 1/16 oz roadrunners in various colors. That was all I fished for a year and a half and I caught bluegill, crappie and bass on them. Even to this day if I’m struggling for a bite I’ll grab a roadrunner and 99% of the time get a bite.
  18. Not sure if you’ve tried the Abu Garcia Revo x. I bought one for the same reason 2 years ago and so far no issues although I’m not on the water as much as most others.
  19. Hit the local pond after work yesterday. This rod & reel combo is quickly becoming a favorite.
  20. You sir are a good man?? I used to go to the power plant before it was shut down, beautiful area. Looking forward to hearing how the event goes with maybe some photos. Stopped by my local pond after work yesterday for 45 minutes and did pretty well on a 1/8 oz jig. Two more? One more
  21. The article being referenced is in the in fisherman 2020 bass guide. If your interested I took a couple photos.
  22. I think you’re going to find most guys recommend monofilament for first time bait cast users. Berkeley big game monofilament in 10-15 lb range depending on the cover where you fish. For my area 10- 12 lb works fine.
  23. I’ll second that?? Most of my equipment is by no means high end but I’d be upset if I didn’t have them. You sir are a Good Man.
  24. As I’ve never owned top end/enthusiast equipment I would pick the Daiwa Steez SV TW. So far I’m extremely happy with the Tatulas I own.
  25. bulldog 1935 should be along shortly. He directed me to some sites that deal with older gear.
