If that’s the case get your self a 7’6 mh bass pro crankin stick. It will be a great all around rod at a budget. I use the exact rod for my buzz baits and really like it. And you can pick one up for about 80 bucks or les on sale.

Get a 300 size reel I use a Lews super duty wide spool for my swimbaits with 20lb mono. If you’re worried about backlashes practice more.

Are Big Swimbaits Worth it??
Absolutely worth it I fish from shore also. I throw s waver 168-200 and 6” bullshads and catch fish I’m in the Midwest and with you being in California I would definitely throw swimbaits.

What’s the last rod/reel you purchased that you ended up regretting?
Last reels I bought I wouldn’t say I regretted buying but didn’t live up to the hype were my tatula sv reels.

20 is to heavy I throw those exact baits on 15lb big game. I use 20 for baits that are 3.5 oz.

Are DC Reels Really Bad for Beginners?
This right here my buddy bought a couple tatula Sv’s to learn after about a week he listed them for sale and bought a few Lews bb1 pros Han haven’t looked back. I did help with the adjustments in the beginning but he picked it up quickly.

I always use black in muddy water a black chatter bait or black Colorado blade spinner bait can be deadly.

You’ll be fine with that reel I use a 6.4 for squarebill and lipless baits.
