  1. i run 15lb power pro green with a 8lb 6ft leader... i have never had braid to leader knot failure... i have hung 100lb fish with 20lbs of drag all using the rp knot/john collins knot
  2. same here.. all the way to 120lb floro
  3. i like slower but have cranked 6xd's for 3 hours on a blackmax....
  4. straight braid unless i am drop shoting and then i tie leader or what ever lb line i need
  5. i would say reel... unless your fishing big tuna west coast style(stand up no harness) then i would go rod... at that point the rod kills the fish and reel just gains line/provides drag. my best fish is a 110 bluefin i caught off san diego on a diawa bg 40 single speed star drag with 40lb leader. I had 10 lbs of drag but what killed the fish was my 8ft custom wrapped cal-star gf800h and 53 mins of pain edit: This is on a boat with 20 other anglers so no backing down or chasing a fish when there are a few hooked up at a time
  6. i rig them on a 4/0 ewg just like senkos and trow them on m/h extra fast 7' rod with a lews speedspool reel... line is straight 20lb braid... i use the same set up for senkos
  7. 13 fishing has a budget swimbait rod for big baits aswell
  8. Thank you for keeping our waters safe! i have actually beat the coast gaurd cutter/helo to a mayday of a boat going under cause i was just 10 miles away
  9. the biggest thing is being comfortable and safe.. in offshore you are mainly looking for other vessels... just sometimes we running 8-10'ft swells on 10-15 sec intervals in a 24ft boat.. I will never run offshore solo... normally 2 of us and both are compitaint and well experienced in the operation of boat, all electronics, saftey equipment.. Its a long way from help when you get 40+ miles out... even uscg is about 1 hr away on mayday calls
  10. i just joined... should be fun i just random picked for this event
  11. living in socal i can only night fish one month out of the year on a lake and only tell 1130 with a boat... all my experience is running saltwater or the river... the lower colorado river is dangerous during the day let alone night because there is sandbars moving and changing constantly... at times river might be 10 ft wide but only have a 10ft lane that is more then 1ft deep... ocean fishing i launch at 1-3 am hit bait barge then shoot off shore... normally about 35 miles running about 20 mph in darkness...
  12. 95 jeeo grand cherokee and a 94 tracker pro 16 with 40hp merc
  13. just picked up a few 8xd and 10xd crank baits
  14. i really like the 10xd and duo g87
  15. I mainly throw zoom zcraw on my jigs... and I just remove some of the body to shorten it
  16. I don't have a jersey but I will not go fishing without wearing my palegic or after long-sleeved sun shirts... same material as the jerseys
  17. what snaps you guys using?? i love the idea of quick change on my treble hook baits
  18. yes in a way it does haunt john.... i became good friends with john around 2012 and even then he was leading away from mike and even didnt like talking about him.. John is a amazing angler and everything kellen said about how john said mike couldnt cast a baitcaster and john carried the weight in the tournaments is true... John was winning tournaments after mike with his 13 yr old son working full time and no pre-fish...
  19. Mine didn't leave town but labor day weekend was my first Saturday off in 3 months of 6 day weeks... so she let me go fishing saturday Sunday monday
  20. I enjoy both... most of the time i am alone... sometimes my wife comes with(she would come more but have a 4yr old)... love taking my son fishing but that is normally shore fishing cause he gets bored on the bass boat. Sometimes a friend or my father in law will go but most dont wanna spend all day in 100 degree weather to grind out a few fish. In San Diego fishing is very tuff with super pressured small gin clear reservoirs. Now when i go chasing tuna or yellow tail i definitely prefer to have a few buddies whether we go on a open party boat or a private boat
  21. when i got serious about bass fishing it was calico bass with my day on 1/2 day boats.... i got really into throwing surface irons and still my favorite way to fish calicos/yellowtail... growing up in san diego we have some of if not the best saltwater sportfishing charter fleet
