Who was the person who had the reel with purple accents as their avatar? I know its random but I don't remember the name just remember seeing that picture of the reel in many of the threads I was looking through when I was early in my reel purchasing journey.

shimano curado green reel
^ I agree but also believe that in all but the top tier reels materials are worse and designs have skewed more towards cost cutting than performance. An example would be Daiwa's $100 line up going to linear mag brakes instead of Magforce

Stocking Shad in a Pond
NW Austin. Tbh I think the bigger issue with all of this is legality as Austinites are fairly particular about these types of things and would likely report ...

Chronarch G question
What are you referring to? It sounds like you mean the caps on the knobs that cover the screws? Or something else?

Daiichi FG Knot Assist Tool
I had seen this a while back and didn't see it as something I needed. Well I had some amazon money and came across one for sale for $23 bucks, free shipping and said "why not?". Well let me tell you, this thing is awesome. I had become pretty good at tying FG knots using the wrap around the pinky method but this makes it so much faster and easier. Highly recommend it for anyone wanting to tie FGs on the water. This thing works great! Not sure I'd buy it for the ridiculous $40 its listed at now but the copycat versions may be just as good.

Reel Maintenance
Greasing plastic isnt necessary. The best cure I've found for geary feeling is to swap to gear oil in frame bearings. I did per DVT recommendation and won't go back to oil on those.

Do you agree with this quote?
Agree with the quote and also don't agree with most here making it seem like getting skunked is as bad as it gets. What do you consider a skunk? No fish at all, or no significant fish? bc a dink or two is no better than getting skunked IMO

Reservoir Type Highland or Lowland
slight tangent ... do you think the course is worth buying if youve read spoonplugging?

Do you agree with this quote?
He then proceeded to fish using illegal drugs and even visited the hood to source more "bait" so yeah, catching was pretty important to him too ...

Reel Maintenance
Not sure how deep youre taking it but iirc the screws for the posts that the clutch springs sit on has loctite as do the handle screws so make sure you have a proper fitting screwdriver or they will strip. The handle side spool bearing also has an interesting retainer on it which you just need to carefully pop off with a tiny screwdriver.

Mono with the least amount of stretch
Haven't fished it personally, but from what I've seen, Sunline Defier Armilo is about as low stretch as it gets for mono.

Barbless and single hooks: thoughts?
Used these as well. Being shore bound and not wanting to miss out on all that sweet sweet crankbait action, I switched up my deep divers to single hooks on the tail only. Can't say for sure if hookups have decreased since I haven't fished them very long but I can say lost lures have greatly decreased.

Which line should I start my son out with his new baitcaster? braid vs mono?
Big game is easier to break off. So big game or get him a dowel and teach him to break off braid vs break the rod

Crankbait Lost but not Found
The Imakatsu Deep Impact sort of fits that description ... not extremely deep but deep for its size https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Imakatsu_IK-800_R2_Deep_Impact_Crankbait/descpage-IMIK8.html
