  1. or just post several CLEAR pictures and we might be able to spot something ... might
  2. Yeah that should be fine. I havent really found gear grease viscosity to affect how "free" a baitcaster is, probably because excess grease migrates immediately. Now frame bearing lube viscosity definitely affects how the reel feels.
  3. That was my thought as well and someone further up mentioned it but would it still cast and retrieve normally if upside down? While youre at it, check part 51 the pinion yoke post thing as that can be installed in 2 different positions only one of which is correct.
  4. Yeah the odd thing is you mention it casts and retrieves normally which rules tons of things out but leaves me scratching my head ...
  5. a screeching drag is like when a fish is making a hard run ... that sounds more fartish does it free spool fine? It doesnt seem like its a drag issue to me but something else seated incorrectly nvm you answered that what happens if you hold line out and retrieve with the drag set very low?
  6. I dont understand ... so many wraps = low pressure few wraps = high pressure so even though an improved clinch and palomar both have the line doubled at the eye, one is high pressure and the other low? but a snell knot and improved clinch which strain in different ways are both low pressure? actually you didnt mention snell but IMO thats one of the few knots I would consider low pressure myself are you referring to the force needed to seat the knot?? high pressure = pull hard to seat it low pressure = pull not as hard?
  7. cmon man you reply to all of these but not to "whats the difference between high and low pressure knots?"
  8. whats the difference between high and low pressure knots?
  9. For context, youre also asking someone who is super excited to have recently learned that you should wrap the line twice around the spool before tying the arbor knot. So not exactly a knot expert here
  10. Its hard enough to go through the hook eye twice ...
  11. My apologies, I actually fish SG614FT70 which is a medium light. I use this rod where there isn't much cover and I take greater casting distance at the expense of some power. I think you'll be fine with that rod. The rod has handled fish up to 5lbs very well.
  12. I am a big fan of Star Rods. For bass I regularly use their Stellar Lite Fast Taper spinning rod SG817FT70. It allows me to cast weightless worms a good distance while still giving me plenty of backbone to lean into when needed. It has been excellent and done everything I expected it to. The rod build is a good quality and its performed great. Have not handled the Seagis but I'm sure its a good rod.
  13. Curly tail grubs and I are in a weird place with our relationship. They never really get used but they still live in the tackle box.
  14. Agree with all of the above, offset round bend 2/0 or 3/0 is the way to go.
  15. Sounds like the friction ring may be the culprit. I would check that part first as they often go bad on Shimanos (11607).
  16. Ive seen all of those but the KastKing heavily recommended on the salt forum.
  17. Never a problem with 30lb braid. Are you guys freeing even big snags with the reel or something?? ... any legit snag that I get is getting freed by pulling the line by hand with a finger saver, not by locking the drag pointing the reel at the snag and backing up.
  18. *Edit Miravel is not worm drive so Inshore Spheros SW is the entry level Shimano worm drive. That said, get the Stradic if you can swing it.
  19. I try to get out and wet a line at least once a week, usually only for an hour or two a day casting from shore with the goal of catching 5 keepers. Some weeks that's every day of the week, some weeks none. Full, legitimate fishing trips are few and far between.
  20. been there ... "athletic build" my *ss
  21. Its definitely a softer metal, I realized that after overtightening the screws that hold it down.
  22. @bulldog1935 this GRTU thing seems interesting. I was reading up on the leases. Might be something worth considering, thanks for sharing.
