Taking pains to keep hooks sharp?
I'll replace hooks but not split rings, my drag isn't set anywhere near enough to open a split ring. No hook bonnets either but I do check hooks the night prior to and after fishing a will and sharpen as needed with a pocket pen sharpener.

Ideal rod & reel characteristics for TX Rig / flipping setup?
Just get out there and give it a shot. It may turn out that TX rigs just aint for you. They are something I wanted to force myself to like, personally, but I just dont. More finesse worm presentations and jigs do a pretty good job of filling that TX rig void.

Second time this week I've seen the Northstar football head hair jigs recommended ... might have to give these a shot for a more finesse approach 1/4 - 3/8

idk what you mean by whirring but i have purchased 4 Fuego CTs and 2 of them made noise. It appeared to be the spool rubbing on the frame. Im not 100% didnt bother figuring it out, just returned them.- BR Unofficial 2nd annual FISHMAS raffle.
In- Spinning reel recommendations?
I know you've mentioned this reel quite a bit. I wish I could just hold it in hand though. I may take a gamble ordering one ...- School me on braid to leader
I use braid to leader for dragging things across the bottom. I originally went 20lb braid to 8lb copoly but have since stepped up the leader to 12lb copoly with good results. FG knot tied in the comfort of my home with leader 2 rod lengths on spinning. The brighter the braid the better since slack line sensitivity on braid isnt the best.- Brag about your state's bass fishing.
- Going small for bass...
I caught a couple of 1-2lb bass this spring fishing a trout magnet on an UL rod. No better bait if you just want to catch anything.- Fishmas 2022

- Can I "straighten" coiled fluorocarbon line?
You should be fine. If its a huge concern, buy a leader straightener like they use in fly fishing.- 400 Spinning Reel With What Rod?
In theory, it shouldn't affect the balance, but the larger reel makes a difference to me when casting. I sidearm quite a bit so I'm sure that has something to do with it. - Reel Maintenance
