  1. No mention of blanks, components, mfg process or even rod weight. Looks like a marketing company but im assuming they do manufacture their own stuff since it says made in Texas. Strikes me odd that for being manufactured in TX there isnt much info or even pictures about their manufacturing process. My guess is assembled in TX at best but I may be wrong. Maybe its the standard reseller template website or something but something seems off to me.
  2. It has the same comet blade which has always been a producer. Just excellent marketing on their part to make Mepps relevant again. I doubt that fished side by side with a yellow dot black fury mepps it would significantly outfish it.
  3. Please update the title to buying a spinning rod today.
  4. if the lines good just give it more backing
  5. Checked guides and all looks good. I will be replacing the leader and will keep testing. I hope it isnt mussels ... from what I've heard, they really wreck things
  6. Magforce Daiwa's are meant to be set with side to side play where you can hear a light click if you wiggle the spool. On all other reels I adjust as needed.
  7. Got the free trial and still didn't feel it was worth it. Jk jk a couple of videos were good but most of it is content you can find elsewhere.
  8. Im pinching on the split shot, sliding it up/down several times and then sliding it into its final position and cutting off the section it was originally pinched on. I've had a bad guide before and from experience the braid would be toast long before the YZH. Also, the break isn't happening at the eye but much further down the line in the leader section. No clams or mussels that I know of.
  9. Fishing a spot I fish regularly, with a rig I fish regularly. Im using 20lb braid to 10lb YZH with a split shot pinched on about 7 inches above the hook which is tied on with a palomar. I have fished this rig a ton of times in this area and haven't lost a single one but I've lost 3 in the past 2 days. The line doesn't appear to be snapping from too tight a drag, there are also no curlies on the line which make me believe its not the result of pressure breaking the line. The first 2 times, it broke with minimal pressure, this last time it broke immediately after a hookset. Each time, the line has broken above the split shot and its bean a clean break with no abrasion whatsoever to the line above it. One thing I did notice yesterday on a rig I didn't lose was abrasion on it like I hadn't seen before, for lack of a better description, the line looked fuzzy as if someone had gone over it with a razor blade if that makes sense. I've tested the line by hand and it appears fine. Anyhow, I have no idea as to what's going on so any assistance is appreciated.
  10. Yeah i didnt mean WG. I meant old other brand. I have a ton of Shurkatch to go through before ordering more.
  11. Ebay for old stock of splitshot. The damage has already been done with those products and idk if its just me but the lead appears to be softer than what you can get on the shelves now.
  12. I dont think thats a spring issue, i believe its the friction ring that causes that. It's a super easy fix if you can source the part.
  13. Go read some Rich Z. Hes got good stuff on dropshots. http://www.richz.com/fishing/articles/dropshot.html
  14. With a heavier more aerodynamic bait id go 0 brakes before turning them all the way up
  15. Did you make sure to reinstall the clicker? if you dont put that on the spool will bottom out before any drag can be applied ...
  16. Guessing you already removed drag knob/cap and spool and replaced?
  17. ... honestly, just use what you have and enjoy fishing
  18. Ugly Stik Elites aren't quite as bad as this thread makes them out to be IMO. These aren't the regular fiberglass tipped Ugly Stiks but also aren't the most sensitive rods by a long shot. Plenty good for throwing live bait.
  19. I don't use a swivel with bass size spinners but on my smaller panfish/trout spinners I do since the smaller reels with crappier line rollers seem to be more prone to twist. That said, if you want to go swivel, theres no better way than the Owner Hyper Micro Barrel swivels.
  20. I group reels by price point, not brand. A $200 Shimano is probably closer to a $200 Daiwa than a $50 Shimano.
  21. They look good but $10 is $10 ... personally anything with a comet blade which includes traditional comets with the fish, black furys, older comets without the fish. Dressed #3 yellow dot black fury if i could only have 1
  22. The "Proper" swimbait reel of dedicated swimbait fishermen still seems to be the calcutta. I'm new to swimbait fishing but only advice i can give is to get a reel in your hands and match it to the swimbait size you'll be throwing. I was originally set on a Curado 300 until I put it on my rod. I realized the Tat 200 was more than enough for my needs (< 2 oz).
  23. I always thought that was the other way around. More teeth = smoother operation. One thing about older reels is that bushings wont give a geary feeling the way bad bearings will.
