  1. ***EDIT*** just to be clear, this is a joke. I am not a mod and no warnings have been applied for recommending omniflex
  2. Yeah I haven't seen it on sale at any time tbh. Are you planning on having the rod do double duty too? or will you use a different rod for salt and freshwater?
  3. If going the Shimano route, Spheros SW is a better reel for only about $20 more than the Nasci. With the Spheros you get worm gear oscillation which is better if you plan on using braid.
  4. Digitaka has been having better prices recently plus free shipping https://www.digitaka.com/items/5/4/1/STRADIC
  5. Yo Zuri Hybrid not a pure mono, but reasonably priced and works well
  6. Oh I definitely did
  7. I was out fishing this morning, stitching a worm when a guy walked up to me on the dock and started chatting. I'm okay with chatting and you can cast beside me, no problem. Then he offers me a 1/4 oz bullet weight and tells me to try it. I tell him I appreciate it but I'm going to keep fishing. He keeps chatting and catches a 3 lb fish and then tells me well try these worms maybe theyll work and hands me a bag of trick worms (decent color btw) and tells me I can have them. Again, I politely let him know I will keep throwing my same worm. Anyhow he left shortly after but I felt like a jerk ... I guess were fishing for different reasons and that's difficult to explain to someone lol. You're fishing for numbers and I'm trying to learn a technique to go after the big girls. Seemed like a nice guy and I'll return the favor and give him some lures sometime but still can't help but feel I was a jerk. WWYD (without John Quiñones)?
  8. That's retail price. I would exchange it for peace of mind.
  9. Should come with a manual. I don't believe oil is included ... at least in that model.
  10. I think you're right. I think its a combination of light weight + depth. I'm fishing off a dock but am casting to water that is about 14 - 16' deep using braid to copoly. My mistake is probably letting the line go slack for any amount of time which gives bass an opportunity to take it deep.
  11. That's the screw that has the tiny black plastic shim thing under it that is near impossible to replace without some degree of distortion ... i hate that thing
  12. That sucks. How did someone pay with your Paypal without getting through the 2-factor authentication?
  13. I would probably try fine grade steel wool on it before replacing. But as far as replacement, I would assume that part is universal through generations of the reel. Best bet might be to measure and reach out to someone to see if they have a replacement.
  14. Funny how I think. At $50 each I was ready to buy 2 of them immediately. Once I saw they are $80 I had no need for even 1.
  15. Drive by there every Wednesday. I'll stop by and ask. Thanks!
  16. Found a Sedona reel on a broken rod while running a couple of weeks back and finally got to tearing into it. After swapping parts in and out with a functional reel, it seems that all this reel needs is a couple of the copper colored main gear shims. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good source for these since Shimano wants to charge $8 shipping on a $1 part for these. Any assistance is appreciated.
  17. No, I am using bonzai and jackall hand pours. I will say they are super soft and seem to tear much faster than the plastic worms i typically use.
  18. The texas rig keeps the eye of the hook near the head of the bait the giant bass method has you slide the hook down until the point enters back into the bait through the egg sack. On 10" worms its a significant difference in terms of hook placement with a 2/0 hook ... at least for me. The worms are also fished almost weightless with only a split shot or two.
  19. Far from retirement here but fish every day ... sorta. I go through seasons I would say during which I will fish minimum 5 days a week then will swap to panfish or trout or stop fishing entirely for a month or two. I only fish when it doesn't interfere with work or family which usually means early outings. I bank fish from 6 am to 7 or 8 am most days and the goal is to get a limit during that time. I think fishing full days 6+ hours, 5 days a week would turn fishing into a job for me.
  20. Went out this morning and decided to throw the big worms. First cast, first fish ... good except it was gut hooked. Got me to thinking if reaction time or rigging has more to do with gut hooking fish. Ive noticed that whenever I rig "In Pursuit of Giant Bass" style I typically gut hook fish much much more than when I use a standard offset round bend hook. I don't think my reaction speed is any different, but I think the "In Pursuit of Giant Bass" rigging method puts the hook point closer to the middle of the worm which I imagine is where the worm bends at when a bass slurps it in. Anyone have a similar experience or have any suggestions to help decrease gut hooking?
  21. Yeah its becoming a distance contest ...
  22. I don't think it plays as big a part in baitcasters, but how spinning reels are shimmed can make all the difference in the world in terms of smoothness.
  23. X ship on Shimano = dual supported pinion On Daiwa, everything from the Fuego up has dual supported pinions as well
  24. Double supported pinions, metal frames, and more sophisticated/refined braking systems are going to be the main difference in my experience. The first two of those being clearly evident in mid tier reels.
