  1. Good pick up! The new Nasci FC or whatever Shimano is calling them (silver/gray bodies) appear to be REALLY good reels. I finally got a chance to play with one and IMO its what the old style should have been ... if for no other reason than the addition of a threaded handle.
  2. brief warm up? weve had highs in the 80s for about a week here in Austin ...
  3. If you plan on using the reel exclusively for deep cranking, there are better options than the SLX which doesnt have a dual supported pinion. Im with @WRB on this one. With lures at those weights even budget reels should fare fairly well with casting. It sounds like it may be an issue with how the rod is loading. As for lures not sure if you have access to Academy but CRD+ crankbaits have been good to me.
  4. A reels drag system's primary concern isn't stopping, but slowing down as smoothly and consistently as possible. You can run carbon fiber dry though ...
  5. I think when people blame graphite reels for "frame flex" its typically a lack of dual support that causes the feeling. I say this based on personal experience where the only reels I've ever felt "flex" were graphite without dual support.
  6. ^ agree. Stiffer rod for lipless for me as well.
  7. Not sure its the same. Only transmissions ive cracked open (C4, T5) do not have anything even mildly resembling an A/R bearing.
  8. Sounds like A/R bearing since you mentioned you greased the collar. Slap the handle backwards repeatedly if it slips its an over/unproperly greased A/R bearing. A/R will not gradually slip, it will be gone entirely when it slips. Clean the A/R bearing with some decent rubbing alcohol and hopefully it will fix the issue. I'm not saying its the right way, but I never intentionally grease A/R bearings. I simply wipe my hands dry as clean as I can and let whatever shininess remains provide lubrication for the A/R components. I may be wrong about this, but I dont believe its possible to overgrease a carbon washer. It may initially be overgreased but the moment you screw the drag down, any excess will just come out the sides and should not re-enter the drag stack.
  9. Im sure some will disagree but the smoke color YZH is something magical. I bought several spools when Sports Authority was going out of business and it was incredible line ... when i had to restock, I had to purchase regular ol clear and the magic was lost. I'd like to think its all in my mind but i still have some smoke color spools left and head to head there does seem to be a difference in how they manage.
  10. If were going down that rabbit hole then welcome to sunfishresource.com since a bass isnt really a bass ...
  11. Small lure or straight to hook: Palomar Large lure: Trilene Braid: Fish n fool
  12. Interested in finding out if the Curado MGL 150 spool is also a direct swap
  13. Citica (now SLX) and Fuego is more like it IMO Idk that I would ever call a Stella a workhorse even though you can use it day in and day out ... its more of an Arabian ...
  14. I respectfully disagree ... baitcasters make sense in how the parts fit together. If you completely take apart a spinning reel AR mechanism, its often difficult to reinstall even with a diagram. Same thing with the bail assembly, depending on design. Also if you ever come across a spinning reel where the main gear was over-shimmed to ensure proper clearance and you try to reassemble based strictly off diagram ... good luck.
  15. ... sounds like you agree with Bill?
  16. Surprised no one has mentioned the Curado 300K. That said ... Calcutta
  17. Is ease of cleaning the reason you want to swap??
  18. BG vs. Shimano Spheros Inshore is a better comparison
  19. 20. We talking sticker or real world price? Because I've got 2 Daiwa Fuego CTs that both came in under $80 from Amazon.
  21. I dont think you will spool either of those reels when fishing for bass. As far as capacities, just go off stated capacity on the website.
  22. Highly recommend a junker baitcaster to experiment with. Basic design is pretty much the same but taking it apart and putting it back together you WILL make mistakes initially and its a safer way to learn.
