  1. I've found the best bait for me at large lakes is live shad and sight fishing. I've found that live bait is legal is some San Diego lakes. I've also caught bass using a nightcrawler and bobber from shore. Sorry to admit it. One day, I would love to have a boat. I feel that boats are a huge advantage. I won't even fish at local community lakes anymore unless it is private. I'd rather go golfing instead given the chances of getting skunked are so high.
  2. I think sometimes of why I get skunked so much. My issue is I hate slow fines techniques like drop shot and ned rig. I've caught maybe 2 fish on the drop shot and 0 on the ned although anglers I speak to swear by them.
  3. No, he is just a crappie golfer. lmao!
  4. I thought that lake was every cast Good read and glad you got some nice ones
  5. We only got 3. Here is the biggest one my son caught. The other two were in the 2 lb range and caught site fishing with live shad. This was our first time at SV and it was kind of a nightmare with a rental boat and no trolling motor. The wind and current was blowing us all over the place. Also, the lake floor is super snaggy with huge trees all over the place. I lost about 6 drop shot set ups.
  6. Well we live in southern california where the skunk is very common unless you have access to a private lake or own a boat. For me, it sucks but my son almost takes it personally when we don't catch. I've been trying to teach him to deal with it better as he is 10. If he wants to continue fishing into adult hood he really needs to be more patient and not let things like getting skunked affect him so much. The kid just loves fishing so much.
  7. Thanks Tom, will give it a go and report back. Haven't caught a bass in several months now so I'm ready!!
  8. To fish a t rig that deep a bullet weight is must right?
  9. We plan to head up there this weekend and rent a boat. Through some research, it seems like drop shot is the go to at this lake, but if anyone else can suggest baits and areas to try that would be much appreciated. Will be our first time here. Thanks!
  10. A very nice guy at a local pond put together this little gift bag for by son. I've never seen them before but appears its all JDM goods. Let me know what you think.
  11. Never made it there. We tried Perris instead and just had a few dinks.
  12. Have you thought about J street marina in Chula Vista? I hear the calico fishing is pretty good there early in the morning.

My son has caught several fish now in the middle of fixing his backlash. Nice fish!!
  14. Thanks Tom. I think I found the place called Willow Beach. I know LM will be tough to come by out that way, but any pointers on stripers? Where to fish and baits? As always, we will be from the shore.
  15. I'm hoping someone knows this body of water that my son and I fished last year in the Nevada area. My son and I stayed at a hotel in Henderson Nevada and drove to Lake Mead. Once the ranger said it costs $15 to enter the gate we asked if there was another place she could recommended to fish with a lower gate fee. All I remember is she said to driver further down the road past Lake Mead to the 'Arizona' side. We made a right off the highway to a windy downhill road and ran into a beautiful lake. Not a bass in site, but they had stocked trout a day or so before and we had a blast. Heading back to North Las Vegas next week and really want to fish for anything that will bite. Here is a pic of the spot we were at. thanks!!
  16. My son would love this type of thing but we are in orange county, ca. Good luck and hopefully it gets off the ground.
  17. My son and I hit up Lake Poway yesterday to catch whatever we could. They had just stocked 1,500 lbs of trout thursday so I thought it would be guaranteed. We only saw maybe 10 schooling but they wouldn't take anything. Jigs, spoons, powerbait. The worst or best part of the day was seeing some huge bass swimming under the boat at about 15 feet. They looked really fat from feeding. We threw jigs and crankbaits with no luck.
  18. We haven't caught a bass in a while so decided to target catfish with cut bait. Low and behold me daughters rod starts going off and look what she pulled in on a biatcaster. The fish was only about 2 pounds, but I was jealous and really happy for her at the same time.
  19. Call me a wuss, but after a day of fishing which I love, the last thing I want to do is eat fish. My favorite fish to eat is probably halibut although I've never caught one personally. Even the sight of a fish bleeding makes me anxious. I stick with C&R.
  20. Appears my local Turners only carries Spro, Deps, and Huddleston. Right now, the Spro BBz1 seems like the only on within my budget. I may order or more of the above to try next time around. thanks again
  21. Thanks. That seems to fit the bill. I need it asap as we are headed out Sunday. Hopefully we can find one at our local turners. Given the weather and trout stocking do you guys suggest starting with the swim bait or try something more subtle like a spinner bait/ jerk bait? Given my luck at large lakes, we will probably end up just going for trout after a while, but I still need to try for bass. Thanks @wrb for the suggestion above.
  22. My son and I are headed to a lake this weekend where they have just stocked trout. The ranger suggested throwing a trout swim bait for starters, but I know nothing about them. All I know is that the ones I've seen are very expensive. In addition, most of our rods are M/H and not sure they could even handle a swimbait that is very heavy. thanks!

We can't really catch a bass to save our lives right now so the kids decided to go for catfish. Only got 2 on shrimp but still fun.
  24. Amazing catch. The only DD I see around here in California are another type
