Bass fishing is getting harder?
Fish at night! If you're not a night owl, then fish at least a few hours either before first light or after last light. All those pressured bass will be feeding and you'll have very little company from other fisherman.

How often do you guys fish?
My season is late March thru early December. I try to fish 3 days a week (that's serious fishing not with my two boys). My trips are usually 4-5 hours on the weekends. Maybe 3-4 if it's before or after work during the week. I normally arrive well before sunrise so I can still get home on the weekends before lunch to spend time with my family (which could be soaking shiners under a bobber for an hour or two).

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Love the Monka bite. It's addicting. The big Smallies at the Chu absolutely destroy them. I can only imagine how much fun it would be if you could fish the place at night. I had 73.7 degrees on Whitehall this past Friday. Crazy.

Yeah, I will be out in the Kayak somewhere. Thinking either A1 or maybe Whitehall (better for taking a dip). Got on several quality fish from 2-4lbs today from the bank. Jach Hammer did most of the work.

I might have an addiction problem....
What is the benefit of this system versus just adding your own flouro leader to braid? Is it as simple as not having to tie the connection knot?

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Took the Kayak out on A1 Site yesterday for about 4hrs. My first time fishing it. Interesting place. Only managed a few dinks on a black/blue JackHammer. Water ranged from 44-49 degrees. Excited to explore this place more this year. Only ventured a little way past the island.

Pretty much everything in Metro West is open water now. I'm heading out in the Kayak this weekend. Planning on bringing Jerkbaits, Bladebaits, Lipless Cranks and a Jig. Maybe toss a Hudd as well if I get a few bites on the other stuff. What are you guys throwing right after ice out in MA?

Higher-end spinnerbaits
Bassman compact spinnerbait. Pricey, but crushes them for me.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Hey Guys, I'm picking up my Old Town Autopilot 136 on Wednesday. Got it fully rigged by Black Hall in CT. Excited to finally get off the bank in 2023. I had a question. Does anyone on BR have experience at A-1 Site in Westborough? I live in Hopkinton on the Westborough line and it looks very fishy. Plan on spending some time there this spring. I heard it "used" to be a fantastic bass fishery, but not so much anymore. Anyone fish it in the past several years? Also, If anyone wants to meet up in the kayaks this year and fish let me know (I'm always up for night fishing as well). Later, Jason

Fellsmere/Headwaters
Can anyone recommend a good guide for Headwaters in late February? Visiting my mother for a week in PSL. I really want to try Headwaters for a day while in the area. I will have my 9yr old son with me, so I would like a guide that will do live bait for my son as well as artificials for me. Thanks! Jason

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
As much as I love fishing from the bank, it's time to hit the water. I'm going to buy an AutoPilot 136 with a trailer this winter. I love the idea of a trolling motor with spot lock on a kayak. Admittedly, I'm not the most handy guy and plan on adding a fish finder and potentially even Live Scope. Does anyone know of any Kayak shops within an hour or two of Metrowest MA that specialize in rigging up fishing kayaks?

Pros fishing your honey holes
On a large body of water, I think the difference between a pro and a local weekend warrior would be quite noticeable. On some of my small ponds/lakes, I'm positive I could hold my own against the pro's. Only so many places a fish can hide on smaller bodies of water. I'm throwing the same baits they are.

Got out in the rain this morning. Glad I did. Best 5 went 21.6lbs. My bag was anchored by a beautiful 7.7lb New England largemouth and my new PB. She ate a black/blue JackHammer in about 2' of water. All my fish were caught very shallow in less than 5' of water. I feel like the bite is really starting to heat up now that the water is right about 50ish.

Drop me a PM if you end up going. I can point you in the right direction. It's a big body of water by MA standards. About 85% of it is fishable shoreline, so it can be challenging for first timers.

Nashville Trip - Fishing Ideas
Hey Guys, It looks like I will be in Nashville for business in early December. I was considering staying a few extra days and hiring a guide to take me out for some bass fishing. I don't mind driving a few hours for a good lake and getting a hotel room. I have never been to TN and would like to experience the bass fishing. I had a couple of questions and was hoping you guys could help... 1) Is the bass fishing still decent/good in early December? Is it worth staying a few extra days? 2) Any suggestions on a lake and guide? I see Chickamauga and Dale Hollow are only a few hours away. Thanks!

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Yeah, it's a fun bite for sure. It's such an effective technique at the Chu early and late in the season. They cast a mile and can be easily fished deep. Plus Smallies absolutely love them. Only have about 3 more weeks left...

Zako as a Swimbait?
Never tried because it would basically have no action. I'm sure it would probably catch a fish or two, but there are way more effective soft swimbaits for that technique.

Hit the Smallie factory this AM from 6:45 until about 10:15am. The place can be spectacular late in the season. She did not disappoint. Best 5 Smallies went 20.12lbs. They were in 15-20ft of water. Big schools of small perch were visible tight to the bank when the sun was out. No surprise the Vision 110 and 110 +1 in GP Pro Perch color did most of the damage. Managed a few on a gold Silver Buddy 3/4oz as well. Good luck this weekend fellas!

What do you guys use for baits as we push later into November and the water temp drops into the mid/high 40's?

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Fished from 7-10am this morning. Got a healthy 3lb larry on a 3/8oz Basstek jig. Got a few more dinks on the jig as well. Then the big slime darts decided to start chewing. Landed a 4.7lb and 4.1lb on a 1/2oz Bassman spinnerbait in white/orange. Really fought hard. Got a few smaller ones as well. Tried flipping some laydowns and running the spinnerbait along them but got no love.

Got out for a few hours today from 12-3pm. Picks are really chewing. Landed 7-8 nice ones mostly on a white/orange Bassman spinnerbait. Ended up with 5 largies as well. Biggest went 3.12lbs (Vision 110) and the others were all between 1-1.5lbs. Absolutely beautiful afternoon for Halloween.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Good numbers this morning from 7-10am. Probably landed a dozen bass and 4-5 slime darts. No size on the bass though. Mostly around 1-1.5lbs. Still fun. Spinnnerbaits, Chatterbaits and even Buzzbaits were working. The amount of bait on the bank is mind blowing. Baby bluegill everywhere and massive schools of perch. It was not uncommon to have a dozen perch nipping at my Chatterbait as I pulled it out on the bank.
