  2. My local lake has been beating me up lately..because of this I'm bringing 4 or 5 rods a trip and way to many lure options. All spring and fall I can get by with a moving bait rod with a spinnerbait, swim jig or shad rap tied on and a jig rod. Hell of a lot more enjoyable with 2 rods and 1 small box of bais.
  3. I don't understand the use of fluoro in this application. I always thought of fluoro as the choice in sensitivity techniques like jigs, Texas rigs, dropshot etc. I see no benefit to using it on a topwater outfit..in fact in my opinion fluoro is to pricey to waste on a no feel technique. Maybe he's just helping sell more line..which is understandable.
  4. This has not been my experience around me this time of year. I've been fishing the same bodies of water a long time...one of them for 20years and I always catch bigger fish in spring and fall. Now don't get me wrong I still catch fish this time of year...but not as many and not as big. For instance my biggest bass of the past 2 months is 4.5lbs...lots of fish in the 3 to 3.5 range. In April and May I had days when I barely caught any under 2.5 to 3lbs. Also those 2 months I had 3 or 4 5s, 2 6s and a 7.
  5. Outside of maybe forgetting a bag of plastics or pair of pliers I don't think I've forgot anything. Have "misplaced" a lot of nice stuff on snags.
  6. I used to live in Texas and remember how awesome the winter was there. I wish I could head south in the winter but I'm a little ways out from retirement yet- about 30 years.
  7. So when it gets hot and humid like we have all been experiencing now for some time...and the bugs start to come out to play..and the fish get summer time dog days lockjaw the thing that keeps me sane is thinking you know what yeah this sucks but at least it's not December and I don't have to wait 3 or 4 months for open water.
  8. Well first let me state I don't own high end...my most expensive rod is $160. But I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they have improved...I'm basing this off how much better the affordable stuff has gotten...even the bargain stuff $50 bucks or less is good now. The Daiwa Aird and Berkley lightning rod are perfect examples. These rods are as good as or better than $100 dollar rods from 15 years ago. Honestly maybe even 5 years ago in a lot of cases.
  9. Havoc used to have a color called swamp gas...always thought that was cool
  10. For me chatterbaits and swim jigs have to have trailers...spinnerbaits? Not so much Kinda like fishing a jig with no trailer..would it work? Probably. Wouldn't for me though because I wouldn't even throw it..no confidence
  11. Your darn right that's a good day. Lately my lady asks me well how was the fishing? I've been responding the fishing was great...the catching sucked Your darn right that's a good day. 12. I'm not saying I never do the one last cast thing but it's rare for me. My girlfriend used to fish with me a lot and I would always do the one more cast thing with her so I could stay longer...but it wouldn't last more than ten minutes. She kinda fell out of fishing years ago and now more than ever because of covid im fishing alone. Because of this I fish til I'm done so I don't limit myself to one last cast..when I'm tired of it I leave be it an hour...6 hours..dark..you get the picture.
  13. I fully expect to catch fish on my local body of water..but that's from 20 years and thousands of days fishing it. I still get skunked but hope to learn from it. I've said before and I'll say again that good anglers have the mental strength enough to put their head down and grind. Some guys never get to that point.
  14. I lived in Montana as a kid and I loved it. Btw about the moron thing I grew up in Texas and have lived in Iowa for 20 years...both places very different...both very far from Montana...lots of idiots both places. I suspect they run rampant everywhere.
  15. Right now? What are you throwing in this crappy heat? I've got a popper, TRD Ned rig, Texas rigged phenom worm and kvd 1.5 shallow.
  16. Dynamite and Budweiser
  17. I've said it before and I'll say it again zoom is my favorite soft bait company. They make a quality conversion of every bait at an affordable price..I could limit myself to zoom and be content if I had to
  18. For largemouth I've had luck flipping the yum vibra king tubes. They don't seem to clump up...at least I haven't noticed.
  19. I was aware of the guy being there since he was so close..I couldn't help but see him as he was in my line of site for my casting. I didn't really pay him much mind until he started talking out loud and then again when he drove over my spot. I don't care what he was doing...until he made it a problem for me.
  20. Oh man i love me some craws...they ain't just for bass
  21. I agree with what fishwizzard said...depends on what your average size fish are. One small river I fish average smallies are 6 to 10 inches...biggest I've caught there is 14. I'd feel fine with a light especially a st Croix or abu Garcia since they run heavy...if I wanted say a falcon or dobyns id go at least medlight since they run light. If your fish average 12inches and up is go at least medlight maybe even medium.
  22. Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service. How big do the bass get in your neck of the woods? I live in northwest Iowa close to the Minnesota and South Dakota borders so I too am used to long cold winters.
  23. My buddy was using Turkey livers today at a local lake. Caught 3 or 4 nice channel cats...said they are much tougher than chicken livers.
  24. Found another annoying thing. Had a boater anchored outside the mouth of a channel connecting two ponds yesterday. We were probably 50 yards apart of more so there was no issue of space. I was standing on the south shore of the channel casting across to the north shore which is lined with rip rap. My bait was a Ned rig and I was catching bass quite frquently. The guy in the boat was watching me and not catching anything...looked to me like he was getting ticked. After about my 5th fish the guy pulled his anchor and trolling motored thru the channel as close to the rip rap as possible. So either the guy was mad at me cuz he can't fish or he doesn't understand fishing etiquette. Either way the guy doesn't deserve a boat if he's that dumb and inconsiderate.
