  1. There are some things that just work. A senko just works. A trick worm just works. And a 6 inch old school curl tail worm works. I remember my dad having boxes of a worm just like these growing up...heck probably was these. 20 good quality worms for 3 bucks is also incredible. Another thing I like about these and baits like them is I can guarantee and nobody at my local lake throwing em.
  2. It's pretty obvious if you read what I said that I don't want more people out either. Lemons into lemonade my friend. I'm trying to get something positive out of an otherwise nonpositive experience.
  3. Who is using an eakins style roundball finesse jig? When would you use this style over a finesse flip style? I have round ball finesse jigs and while they catch fish I honestly prefer a sniper finesse flip style
  4. I honestly think that when this covid crap shakes out and life goes back to normal or at least closer to it a lot of these new people will stuff there rods and reels in a corner and never pick em up again. At least maybe I'm hoping that happens.
  5. For bass? If my old lady asks maybe 10. If your asking and I'm being honest upwards of 25! Probably 6 or 8 spinning and 15+ baitcasting. I bank fish also...and yes I agree I could get by with half a dozen combos. But I'm worried the bait monkey will starve if I'm that stingy with my cash!
  6. Haha..yeah I find a lot of that crap too believe me.
  7. I always forget to throw these...for a few years they were my favorite crank but I never liked how shallow they run. Now that I'm looking for that these may be just the ticket. I've got a box with at least a dozen of them.
  8. This is what I think of when I think traditional old school plastic worms. 20pk is only 2.99 on TW. Anybody still throwing these? I've got a lack in motor oil color...next order I'm gonna get a pack of grape.
  9. Yep this is present at my lake to. I've picked up a lot of trash..to the point where I almost won't do it anymore. Finding the goodies doesn't make up for the garbage but your gonna have the garbage anyhow.
  10. We haven't had much rain lately and because of this my local pond is lower than it has been in years. Because of it I've recently had success with the kvd shallow. Are there other good crank options that run the same depth? Not really looking for wake cranks
  11. So as we have talked on here a lot lately about covid making more people get out fishing we have all focused on the negatives: people in our spots, more idiots leaving trash, etc. But one positive I've noticed is I've been finding more goodies as well. I've found countless hooks and weights, a couple nice cranks, bobbers of all shapes and sizes and new pair of pliers. Anybody else have this?
  12. I kinda want a new truck but not sure I wanna feel 30 years younger. Not sure how it would feel to be driving at 7 years old.
  13. My vehicle breakdown is this: 2010 Kia forte with only 90,000 miles on it. Bought it new in 09.Girlfriend drives this...gets 36 mpg on highway. 2005 Chevy Silverado z 71 with 135k miles on it. Trucks has been Iowa it's whole life and is getting pretty rusty. Also it has an oil leak starting but motor-transmission wise it runs great. Car has been paid off since 14 and truck since 17... Keep saying I'm gonna get new ones but no payments besides the house is nice.
  14. I'm in the camp of using some sort of compression. My dad had a bad elbow for years until he finally had surgery on it. Years and years of casting, throwing a baseball and doing construction will do it..to some guys at least. He did wear some sort of compression band/sleeve for years before surgery and said it helped alot. Long term solution I guess you could look more into your casting mechanics and change if need be. But to me this is a big undertaking. Assuming you are even doing it wrong to begin with..you very well may not be..but if you are relearning something like this that has that type of muscle memory tied to it for however many years you've casted that way may take a long time.
  15. That seems odd to me. I was fishing a mojo rig on a spinning rod a few days ago..the reel was a pflueger president size 30. I caught a largemouth around 4 or 4.5 lbs and didn't have any reel flex. That particular reel is 10 or 12 years old and has caught thousands of fish. I remember catching a 30+ lb carp on that reel more than once without issue.
  16. That's a true statement...I dig it tho
  17. I agree with this 100%. I don't want bulk in a swim jig so I use 33 to 44 strands max and cut the inside strands off aka northern swim jig style. To me the skirt is there just for a little bit of shape or profile...the magic of a swim jig is the trailer imo. That's what the fish key on so I dont want it lost in a bulky mess of strands.
  18. You are gonna get all kinds of different responses from people on this. A lot of guys will tell you to fish early, late and overnight avoiding the hot midday. Some guys will tell you don't believe it there is a bite midday even when it's super hot. Both camps are right. To me in summer when it's the hottest time of year like July and August I have my best luck from 6 a.m. Til 9 am and again from 7pm til dark. Night fishing can also be fantastic...but my local lakes are closed to fishing after 10 or 1030 so I don't have much to say about that. Midday can be awful tough but you can still manage to scratch some fish. I throw a mojo or slip shot rig a lot with a small finesse worm and although it's not fast and furious it's consistent. The strange thing about it is it seems to work better the hotter it gets. Another way I've caught fish is to fish shade lines along shore with a frog or a popper. Fish tuck back into the shadows especially under over hanging trees but they won't pass up an easy meal. I think two factors play into why guys aren't successful in summer. 1) Fish are postspawn so the bites aren't as plentiful as prespawn..they really seem to bulk up for the spawn plus the bite wanes some as it gets super hot and fish tend to conserve more...because of this guys get impatient and frustrated so they spin out 2) The weather affects more than just the bass. I know people have different levels of heat tolerance. I grew up in Texas so I'm tougher when it comes to heat than my girlfriend who has lived here in Iowa her entire life. But I dont care how tough you are being outside when it's 100+ with 80% humidity sucks. It can sap your energy pretty quick no matter how much water you drink. You take the hot miserable weather and couple that with naturally slower fishing and a lot of guys are defeated before they even wet a line. If you go in with the mindset of I'm gonna be miserable and not even get a bite...well guess what will happen. These are just my opinions based on my observations of fish and people behavior during hot weather over the past 20 years of bassin.
  19. Yes it's on the first album I believe. I wrote that kinda weird I guess. Was just saying that's one of my favorite doors songs.
  20. LA woman is great..I bet I've heard that album all the way thru at least 100 times growing up. On cassette in my dad's old S-10 driving across country on our many moving trips. I've always been very partial to Crystal ship for some reason.
  21. Depends on how thick of a skirt you want. Each tab has 22 strands...most jigs I use 2 tabs for a total of 44 strands...but I prefer a thinner skirt. If you want heavier go with 3 tabs for 66 strands ...the would be a nice full bulky skirt. Swim jigs I actually prefer a very thin skirt myself..I go 1.5 to 2 tabs max and I trim off the inside strands.
  22. This is my 2nd year of making my own skirts. I get my tabs and bands from skirts unlimited..got the tool there to for just 3 or 4 bucks. For more permanent skirts i.e jigs I don't lose often such as swim jigs I tie my skirt on with braid. For me I like the process of making them and like customizing colors so I wouldn't go back to buying them premade. That said I used to buy boss skirts on tackle warehouse and siebert outdoors skirts all the time..both are good.
  23. I don't really fish anywhere that is super weedy. For me a bladed jig is about two things 1) water temp 2) water color. I have far better success slow rolling one like I would a spinner bait so that leans me more towards colder water. Also I prefer color to the water so that also means cooler spring water which usually has stain to it from flooding, snow melt and springs rains. When the water gets hot here it usually clears up some unless we have an abnormal amount of rain..cleaner water in throwing a swim jig.
  24. I'm guilty especially when it's mid summer hot or mid winter cold (-35 here) of sitting on the couch. But in reality the answer to any question no matter the subject or context has always been and will always be go fishing.
  25. I agree that Tool is very different..I would hesitate to call them weird but they have been a favorite of mine since junior high (25 years ago) so maybe I'm used to them and that's why they don't sound weird. My dad's favorite band is The Doors...they are kinda weird...but there again I grew up with it so it just sounds normal to me
