  1. Last Sunday I found a bomber 7a in red crawfish color. Needed hooks but otherwise it was in great condition.
  2. The deps look awesome but $30 for a crankbait? I'll pass. If my old lady found out id sleep on the couch for a month
  3. Any favorites? Never really have them much thought but now I see the need
  4. That's the shock...I'm talking just the regular old lightning rod. I bought a 7ft medium mod fast and it's a good squarebill rod especially for a budget angler
  5. I've been impressed with the newest generation of Berkley lightning rod...they are around 40 bucks.
  6. So I use a modfast for moving baits like chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and squarebills the idea is it gives a little to let them get a hold of it so you don't pull the bait away Fast action I use for jigs...with an open hook design a little more tip flex helps me snake it through cover without sticking the hook in wood as often..also feel the forgiveness in the tip helps keep jumping bass pinned with that big chunk of lead up top...seems to make it harder for them to throw it Extra fast I use for Texas rigs...seems I get better bite detection with the super fast tip..also the extra tip power helps in setting the hook through the plastic in my opinion. Throwing the hook is not a concern since the weight is separate because I don't peg my weight If I was getting 1 rod only for Texas rigs and jigs if get a 7ft to 7ft4in medium heavy fast. Spool it up with 15lb copolymer or fluoro if you prefer and should be good to go. This is true many rod companies are different in how they classify there rods power. I use abu Garcia and st Croix rods for bottom contact..both rods seem to run heavier so I use medium heavy. If I was using Dobyns or falcon I may step up to a heavy since both companies seem to run lighter.
  7. 2 66qt tubs and rods you don't remember buying? And I thought I have a lot of stuff!
  8. Medium heavy for me for almost everything baitcasting and I navigate this by changing action aka modfast, fast or extra fast. I have a couple mediums that I use for jerkbaits, poppers and small swim jigs. Only have 1 heavy and that's for frogs.
  9. Kinda like how Netflix recommends movie based off ones you watched even tho the recommendations make no sense. A while back I was browsing and they are like: since you watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre you may also like Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
  10. For me around these parts. Had a good thump on a swim jig...lean into it and the fights on...feels like a nice solid fish ...get it close and it's a northern pike...turns away makes a run and one head shake...pop...so long swim jig! Guess that's why they make more. Must have had a bunch get in from the flooding the past few years...I've caught 3 or 4 in the past 2 years...maybe 2 the 15 years before that. Same with smallies ...id caught 1 in there until a few years ago...bet I've caught 25+ since.
  11. Never thrown one of these...are they as good as the old xcalibur zell pop?
  12. Was gonna say something to this affect. Ned himself threw more than half a stickbait on the mushroom head.
  13. Had a day last week when I caught 10 largemouths...caught a small pike on a buzzbait and a big drum on a kvd 1.5 shallow. Also lost a big gill on the crankbait.
  14. My PB largemouth came on a crappie rod with 4 or 6 lb test...around 8.75 lbs. I've caught carp in the 30lb plus range on a walleye rod with 6lb line...several of them.
  15. 100% yes! I think more fish on a given day are in a neutral to negative mood so a slow retrieve gives you more time in the zone to coax a bite. I find myself fishing slower than basically everybody probably 90% of the time. And I bass fish with several people who are varying levels of experience from novice to well experienced...the one thing I tell them most is slow down when they struggle. I think the two times of year when a fast retrieve works is prespawn for a week or two and then postspawn when bluegill and or shad are spawning. There is a reason so many guys say stuff like I love a walking bait because it can sit in place...or when I throw a buzzbait I like a big blade and a toad to give lift so I can creep it along slowly. Also a reason the two most successful lures of all time are probably an arky jig and a Texas rigged worm. This is another caveat to this whole deal...what I said originally applies in an area where you know you are around fish. If you don't know where they are then it's best to tie on a search bait and cover water.
  16. I've got a bottle of loctite regular super glue...non gel type...that I bought for something else but have used for fishing related things. Next time I will get the gel just for ease of use/ control of application but I will say I've had the bottle for months and it is still in good shape...girlfriend used it a few days ago.
  17. That looks like exactly what I want...I added a 3/8 black on black to my TW cart...thanks for all the replies everybody
  18. That's a fine looking small jig combo...only way that don't get bit is if your fishing in a rain puddle...even then I'd hold on tight just in case.
  19. I've never tried larceny but it's on my radar. For the price I'm a fan of Buffalo Trace...may be cliche since everyone knows about it but it's just good imo. Tonight I'm just having a little Jameson with 1 rock...nothing special but it's easy, non challenging and drinkable.
  20. I'm looking for something a little heavier but this may be an option
  21. I agree with this as well..bass must like baits the way we like an old pair of jeans or worn out pair of sneakers. I'm guessing it's cuz a lot of the shine is gone so it gives that more dull natural look. Also with a skirted bait I feel like it's more broke in so the strands have less rigidity and more flow and movement. I like my hard baits to have teeth marks and hook rash..and I've got no issue with a skirted bait with the head paint all chipped off and the skirt about to fall apart
  22. Just had 2...oh my God that's cold
  23. Guess that's why most of us do this...the discovery of the unknown and trying to understand it
  24. I'm looking for a buzzbait with that compact profile that is still heavy enough to throw on a baitcaster...what are my options? For reference I'm throwing mostly 3/8 war eagles and cavitrons
  25. Another thing I hate is drunk people fishing off the public dock...here is a story. A few summers ago im parked by the boat ramp and there are some drunk people fishing off the dock. No big deal they are yelling throwing crap at each other being drunk morons...but we've all been that guy at some point so I can handle it. I'm walking back to my truck and the drunkest guy outta the bunch is walking towards my truck...doesn't see me..so he decides to take a half full beer and bounce it off my back window. Well for a few seconds I considered tackling this guy and grinding his face in the gravel..just giving him the beating he clearly needs. But decide against it and go looking for a park official. I find one who is a buddy of mine I've known for 20 years almost..he calls the sheriff they send a deputy and arrest the guy for public intox. Now when I went home and told my girlfriend about how I handled it she said she was impressed with my restraint. I guess age and experience have a way of helping with that..she has helped me out tons in that regard. I did tell her that had this happened to me in my early to mid 20s that guy would be in a coma or bodybag. Honestly I'm glad I'm not that guy anymore.
