  1. I actually read about gentle giant today as I was doing research on prog rock bands. I've heard king crimson before..not really my deal..have a buddy that recently got into them. I probably should give them more of a chance to be honest.
  2. Always shallow for me..how do I decide? I don't have a boat..decision is made for me
  3. I have some zappa mothers of invention stuff...it's weird but I like it..her not so much. Dude Television..I love those guys too. Marquee moon gets so much praise and yeah it's good..but I like the 2nd album Adventure way more. Never really got into Lou Reeds solo stuff but I have a buddy who loves him. I do like velvet underground & nico and loaded a lot from his VU days. Dear Mr fantasy is a great jam
  4. I remember listening to Traffic Low spark as a teenager on vinyl...my dad had a copy. I didn't get it then but I may now. Steve winwood was in that band correct?
  5. Talking heads are one of my top 5 favorite bands ever. Stop making sense is one of the best live albums ever recorded imo. Echo and the bunnymen? That's so weird you mentioned them...I watched the lips like sugar video like 20 minutes ago. Echo are very unique but in that particular song they kinda have an 80s era Bowie vibe. Tull is also great they have some well known jams like aqualung and locomotive breath..but also some lesser known greats like bungle in the jungle and song for jeffrey.
  6. I've always considered myself someone who has pretty broad tastes in music...I like at least something from most genres. My favorite is rock and it's seemingly endless sub genres. Now my girlfriend likes a lot of stuff but is more straight forward in her tastes...never really moving towards any extremes. So I like to challenge her from time to time and put on something many would consider weird...or at the very least not mainstream. So yesterday we are cleaning the basement and I throw in Captain Beefheart Safe as milk...instantly she is like What the F is this? To me challenging music is like learning to enjoy complex things...like a super smoky scotch...maybe it's abrasive on first encounter but with repeated tries the sharp corners dull down and you can dig deeper and find some real substance. Great albums to me aren't always great first listen..but with every repeat try you find more and more in there to latch onto eventually loving it. Sorry this was longwinded...anyway what are some of the stranger or more avant garde musicians/ albums you guys love? Btw I introduced my girlfriend to Rush and she loves them...and while maybe not out there like a lot of bands they are more challenging and complex than anything in the radio so I consider that a victory!
  7. With availability of popular stuff getting less and less because of this deal I suspect we will see more posts like the bringing it back one from today. Out of necessity people will go digging thru old boxes and trays rediscovering old favorites. Maybe not a total bad thing. I don't like it more...but it's dang close But like I said above I also enjoy scrounging up old stuff and putting it thru the paces as well
  8. I grew up in a suburb of Houston back in the 90s. At the time Harris County Texas was one of the most dangerous places in the United states. I was around gangs, drugs, robbery and everything else you can't think of in my formative preteen to early adulthood years. My mom was a great parent in that she worked and all her other time was devoted to me and my sister to make sure we were happy and healthy. My dad was a good parent in his own right..he taught me the value of hard work and earning things on your own. He also taught me that being a man was knowing when to say sorry, when to back down and when to refuse to let somebody walk all over you. He also taught me a love for fishing starting around 3 years old that I still have to this day 34 years later. Now I am in no way saying that I am a perfect human..far from it as I've made bad choices and done dumb things as I'm sure everyone has. But I don't steal, I've never done drugs and I've never physically hurt someone unless I was forced to defend myself. I've made it too 37 and I've never been to jail. My parents are my heroes.
  9. For me it goes...spinner bait almost never a trailer...chatterbait most of the time...jig always a trailer.
  10. I would say they are shart...they look like crap! Just kidding man...couldn't resist.
  11. I almost always have some follow up bait when I'm throwing a topwater. Usually a weightless senko or truck worm. I would say it works maybe half the time.
  12. So I am now and pretty much always have been a shore angler. When the water gets hot all I hear about is offshore fishing: deep cranking, dragging worms and football jigs, dropshot..etc. My question is how many of you guys/gals stay shallow even in super hot weather and water temps? What are you throwing? Lately I've been catching some on a shallow kvd crank..a few on a buzzbait ...a few on frog...my best producer has been a weightless trick worm.
  13. This is the video that actually got me curious about what plastics guys are using on a buzzbait
  14. Perfect thanks for the info
  15. What toad do you like best?
  16. Spooks are a bait that I've done well in and I have a box of them...but they are rarely my first choice. Normally I reach for a buzzbait first. If I need a more subtle bait I'll walk a frog. If I need a smaller bait I throw a pop r.
  17. I've thrown a buzzbait for a long time but I've always just thrown a skirt...also never even used a trailer. How many of you guys are taking the skirt off and just going with a piece of plastic instead? I know a lot of guys use a horny toad or something similar but what else do you thread on? Any favorite buzzbait for this?
  18. Isn't this a winter thread in summer? I can't pick...gun to my head id say either spinner bait or more than likely finesse jig
  19. I realize this..I was just saying not rapala because so many guys throw the DT series and shad raps which are both balsa. I'm also aware they make non balsa shad raps.
  20. Outside of rapala which I know tons of guys use...whose throwing balsa cranks? What brands do you like? Looking to up my crank game and I've never gone the balsa route...besides rapala that is
  21. I far prefer the flat style grips myself...feel more secure and natural in my hand. The only reels I have with round knobs are my old Garcia round reels that I use for catfishing. And they work fine of course but I prefer the other.
  22. Not really in the open water season but in winter organizing my bass stuff is the only thing that keeps me sane. So certain times of the year I love organizing
  23. I use copolymer and mono..I use kvd line and lure...does it help? I'm not sure but I think so..so I use it
  24. Well I'm gonna say if your comfortable with a jig then you can fish a Texas rig. If your comfortable with a squarebill and swim jig then you can fish a spinnerbait, chatterbait and moving topwaters like a plopper or buzzbait. Also you are comfortable with a shaky head a wacky rig and your working on a dropshot. Sounds like you've got a very solid base. You've got bottom contact, power fishing and finesse covered. I agree with the play to our strengths on tourney day and experiment during fun fishing or in practice days. The longer you do it the more confidence baits you will have and become more well rounded. Building a pattern is nothing more than just reading the clues the fish are giving you. Just do a little detective work. When you catch a fish just note..what pace did you work the bait at and what type of bait was it? What kind of cover or structure was it on? If no typical cover ie weeds, wood or rock what kind of bank...flat? Clay? Sand? North or South facing? What is the water depth, color and temperature? Once these things are established you just move to other spots on the lake that meet your criteria and more often than not the fish will be present. Sometimes you don't even need to catch one to establish a pattern..just gotta pay attention to your surroundings. If you see bluegills on bed you can go around on sand and gravel points and catch bass lurking around the bluegill beds with things like a frog or senko. If you see shad flicking around by the boat ramp spawning you can fish gravel banks or around docks with a white spinner bait or swim jig and catch bass targeting the shad spawn. To me the hardest thing to know is when to pull the plug. If you catch one on a jig and it was random you can get wrapped up and spend all day chasing a bite that's not there. Knowing when to say this isn't working so let's move on to something else is the trick. To me this is the thing that really takes time and experience to develop. Trust me I've caught one on a spinner bait then spent 4 hours with it never to get another bite. Then find out a buddy caught 5 on a crankbait...all I had to do was switch. Just remember you have much more to learn from a failure than a victory...treat bad days as learning opportunities...good days will follow.
