Swimming jigs that aren't "swim jigs"
Sure...I swam jigs way before I had swim jigs. As stated above the swim jig head will come through grass much better..but if not fishing heavy grass id guess any jig would work okay

What is it about a black and blue jig with a black and blue trailer?
I have the complete opposite experience. I've only fished jigs for a handful of years...but can count on two hands how many I've caught on a black and blue jig. Now green pumpkin is say I've caught hundreds on it. I've had days that I've caught more bass on a green pumpkin in one outing than all my black blue fish combined. Now soft plastics in black and blue work well for me...go figure.

Ever been pleasantly surprised?
Most definitely! This spring I bought a Berkley lightning rod 7ft medium moderate fast. These have always been great budget rods but this is hands down the best version I've used. This rod has been great for small squarebills like a 1.5 or bomber square a. I've got it paired up with a kastking assassin and I've gotta say for $85 it's a good budget combo. I've got much "nicer" squarebill rods like a pair of the old falcon bucoo micro guide trapcasters...but I'm loving the lightning rod lately.

What do you call a fish with no eyes?
Wow

Your favorite bluegill lure?
I like a 1/32nd oz ball head with a 1.5 or 2 inch white twister..a rebel crickhopper is also a blast

Interesting night
Well it rained like crazy most of the day but I managed to get out this evening for 3 hours. Went around catching some dinks on a buzzbait and a kvd 1.5 shallow. Hooked up on a good fish and thought finally...turned out to be a smelly old drum. Walked down to a small beaver d**n...Hooked up on a solid largemouth on the squarebill..she dove for the sticks I tried to stop her and the hook popped out. Walked to another area saw a bass pin a bluegill against the shore threw the buzzer in there and she hammered it. She was about 3.5 lbs and felt good to get a quality fish after 10 dunks and losing the only other good one. Coolest thing that happened..was thrown it the buzzer near a small log had a blowup and missed it. There back in another blowup this time I got the fish but could tell it wasn't a bass. Ended up being a small pike..not very common in my local lake.

Upcoming Tournament on a Heavily-Pressured, Small Lake
Well if it was me and I was faced with a scenario where keepers will go a long way id probably go to my confidence area with finesse if I thought I could get a limit early. A limit would put you way ahead of A lot of guys if the pressure is really gonna be that high . After I got a limit id switch gears and just hit high percentage areas with something like a big jig and a buzzbait looking for a kicker.

Wow. Bad time to need to restock on baits.
I've got so much crap I'm good! I'm talking 50+ spinnerbaits, 30 poppers, 100+ jigs, 100+ cranks..and oh God the soft baits. Bags and bags of essentials like ultravibe speed craws, trick worms and hundreds of stickbaits. Oh and another essential this time of year frogs...I've got probably 15 or 20. What in particular are you looking for?

Finally
I finally got my hairs cut yesterday for the first time in...oh God I don't know...a year...maybe a little less. I'm not one who cares about keeping my hair trimmed and I'm usually pretty comfortable with long hair. But recently I've spent alot of time working in the plant with our maintenance staff and that is a very hot environment so I had to get that mess off to let my head breath!

Coping with the crowds this year
Since I first posted this it has gotten worse. But I figured out today that if you go out in the rain it will separate the posers from the anglers. Went this morning in the rain never saw another person..managed 3 solid largies and lost 1 before the lightening scared me off.

Homer
Well maybe not secret but just missed or forgotten now days. When he won the classic I was 10 years old so I didn't know anything about it. It's not a color I hear mentioned often.

Homer
I'm not much of a crankbait guy so that said I've never really seen or at least noticed this color. I was watching bassmasters cast from the past last night and they talked to David Fritts about his 93 classic victory. His primary crankbait in that tournament was in the Homer color basically a green back with chartreuse sides and a little orange on the throat. I've used chartreuse blue back but never homer. Anybody have experience with it? Is this some secret color pattern in not aware of? Hoping you old school crankers chime in and drop some knowledge on me

Old style wake baits
I've seen people saying they throw a redfin or long a but I've never used one. What conditions are right for this style of bait? Does anybody use the Berkley surge shad? Color recommendation? Also what rod, reel and line setup? I'm really intrigued by these and don't know anyone who has used them..where I live there isn't much focus on bass so I have very limited resource for learning face to face.

Tubes for largemouth?
I have used the yum vibra king tubes with decent success. I fish them texas rigged just like a creature bait but the have a cool spiral fall to them. Some times I'll dip the tentacles in chartreuse JJs magic if I'm imitating gills or orange if I'm imitating craws.

Top water in the rain
Buzzbait has always been my choice as well just making sure I wasn't missing anything

Top water in the rain
What topwaters do you prefer in rainy conditions? I'm not talking down pour but let's say a light to medium shower

Line for buzzbaits

One more time, favorite swim jigs!
1/4oz boss swim jig with a homemade skirt is what I throw most. I also throw the boss bullet heads or the siebert grass heads again with a homemade skirt. I make my skirt northern style trimming all the inside strands off and tie it with braid. The only colors I really throw are bluegill or white. Buying the heads this way and making my skirts I can get just the color I want and I can make a quality jig for around $2.

One Solution to Crowded Water ~ Fish at Night
Bugs have never bothered me..maybe I'm rotten or poisonous. My girlfriend on the other hand must be made out of the mosquito equivalent of catnip...there are so many on her im afraid she may get carried off some times.
