  1. Well hook size and style all depends on what bait you are throwing. The sizes I use most often are 2/0,3/0 and 4/0 round bends mostly throwing baby brush hogs,6 to 7.5 inch worms and senko style baits. I myself am not much of a fan of ewg hooks..they have their place but I don't throw anything the needs them.
  2. You should send Mike a private message ...he's a member here and he will be able to hook you up.
  3. I'm just as excited as ever for the classic and BASS in general. I don't watch mlf much but I've got nothing against them. And I've been an FLW fan for a long time as well, but BASS will always be my favorite. The classic is in a league of its own. No matter who your watching in it there is just a unique feel.
  4. I always fish alot...compared to my buddies anyhow...but according to my old lady ive really cranked it up this spring. With such limited things to do like not going to movies or out to eat and basically doing everything shopping wise online besides groceries it's opened up a lot of time. I basically wake up and think so do I need to mow or go to work? If both answers are no them im going bass smackin.
  5. I'm all over the place with this...I worked in a small town grocery store for 12 years prior to my current gig as a plant tech for a biorefinery. Talk about two different ends of the spectrum..I used to see people all day everyday and now I don't deal with anybody but the few guys on my crew. I would like for someone to greet me when I go in my local store but if they don't I don't care as long as they aren't jerks. Try and check me out while talking on the phone..I'll wait til your done...and mention its the last time it's gonna happen.
  6. Everybody has a little different outlook on this. I have no issue if people stop and ask how it's going or what I'm throwing it what I'm catching. Don't even care if people ask to fish close to me..but if there a cast length of closer I'd like them to ask first which I don't feel is unreasonable. What I don't like is somebody standing close enough to pick my pocket. A few springs ago me and a couple buddies are fishing a local lake for big gills when a dude walks up and starts fishing basically hip to hip with my buddy Todd without saying a word. Todd and his brother both kept cool but after a few minutes I just turned to the guy and said do we know you? He just grabbed his stuff and walked away. Maybe not the coolest thing I could do but definitely not the worst...I've got limited patience for lack of respect of personal space like that especially when fishing.
  7. I like the roboworms the little I have used them. May have to check out the iovino baits they get mentioned often. Uptons too. What iovino and Upton colors would you guys recomend ?
  8. I've never really used any fancy worms just normal injection molded mass market stuff... Berkley zoom etc. Do any of you guys use hand pours? What are some favorite brands and colors? Not sure if roboworms are hand pours but for the sake of this lets leave those out..I'm aware of there magic! Just looking to up my worm game some this summer and need a few ideas
  9. Yep flw guy named Eric Jackson of Jackson kayaks. He got 2nd place at the tour stop in lake Champlain last year.
  10. My dad started taking me fishing before I could even walk. I've had a rod and reel in my hands all but a few years in high school when I thought girls were more important since the age of 2 or 3. My dad worked his tail off when I was growing up working 60 to 75 hours a week or more for years but he still made time to fish with me on his 1 or 2 days off a week after 5 15s. Can't thank him enough for that. I grew up inshore saltwater fishing for redfish speckled trout and flounder mostly..and as much as I love bass I miss it sometimes. I myself don't have kids but my sister has two..a boy and a girl..they are my godchildren and I take them from time to time. Trying my best to pay it forward.
  11. Living in northern iowa I have access to walleye bluegill and crappie pretty readily so that's why I don't keep bass. I just prefer the other fish over them so I release bass to fight again. We also have yellow perch up here which may be my favorite fish in freshwater..like em even better than walleye.
  12. How dare you keep our magical unicorn of a fish that will surely go extinct now because you kept one. Somebody on here is gonna wring your neck for this..but it sir will not be me.
  13. Come to think of it I actually have a pond that has a lot of submerged weeds...this sounds like a perfect place to try them.
  14. The saying I've heard is color doesn't matter..until it does! I believe that color is more of a confidence thing. Just like black and blue for me..a lot of people's favorite but I don't have a lot of confidence in it. One thing I've noticed is matching colors in some baits to forage matters more in some baits than others. Meaning if bass are keying on gills then a bluegill swim jig will out perform a white one. But for me a shad imitating spinner bait always out performs a bluegill one no matter what they are feeding on.
  15. I feel like most fish are in a neutral to negative mood most of the time. Because of that soft baits which are generally more natural looking and fished slower will draw strikes from a bigger % of fish. That said I like a lot of anglers much prefer to fish aggressively with moving baits which is why I try them almost every time out even when I know better.
  16. Just curious about these and swimming style worms in general. What is your setup and terminal tackle for these? Are they productive around hard cover like wood and rocks or only around vegetation? I wanna try some and have the colors narrowed down to basic green pumpkin and junebug
  17. Spinnerbait..while this is effective often where I fish because of water color and cover types there is a lot of times in the year it's not the best bait..but I still rely on it even when I shouldnt
  18. Can't be positive but if I had to guess it was a cheap 4inch renegade curl tail in either motor oil or tequila sunrise texas rigged. Wish I could still get them honestly.
  19. I throw my bladed jigs on a cheap old Berkley lightning rod shock..7ft medhvy mod fast ...not fancy but I really like it. Throw spinnerbaits on there to. I'm in the camp of topwater and moving bait rods don't need to be top dollar...I save my rod money for bottom contact and finesse rods.
  20. I bring a small cinch backpack with a 3700 size box with several different lures and a couple bags of plastics. Also some tools...pocketknife,pliers, scale. Usually 2 to 4 rods.
  21. I've tried several different scents over the years with mixed results..nothing definitive. One I think helps is jjs magic...but it may be the color as much as the scent.
  22. Id agree 3.5 to 4. How big could they get in a pond that size? I'm in northern iowa. We have a smaller state record largemouth than you guys. I have a pond no bigger than that I fish regularly..caught an 8 lber out of it a couple falls back.
  23. Can't catch fish with a spinnerbait? How is that even possible ? Is this real life...is it gonna be like this forever?
  24. I love reading your guys stories of all the giants you have seen it caught in Florida and California . The biggest bass I've seen I caught years ago..almost 20 in fact..it was weighed on an old spring scale and it was between 8.5 and 8.75. Then again the Iowa state record is only 10lbs 14oz. .
  25. Looks like alot of guys prefer the popping frogs...I have a few I'll have to throw more often
