Any guesses on the weight of this largemouth bass?

Featured Replies

First, I know it's not the largest. My buddy and I were fishing a really small pond (~3 acres) in the Kansas City area and he pulled this sucker out of there. Our scale was in the car a half mile away. Quite frankly, we weren't expecting much. How big could largemouth bass get, theoretically, in an environment like this (I've never seen anyone else fish there)?

^x3. If I’m telling the story without showing the pic, I’d make it bigger than that ?!  Nice fish anywhere. Way to go.

I agree about 4 lbs

Id agree 3.5 to 4. How big could they get in a pond that size? I'm in northern iowa. We have a smaller state record largemouth than you guys. I have a pond no bigger than that I fish regularly..caught an 8 lber out of it a couple falls back.

I’d say 4+.

I’d say 4 lbs.

Now, as far as the size of bass and the size of ponds are concerned, who knows? Two weeks ago I caught this bass out of a pond I’d say is between 1.5 and 2 acres in size. At the time I had no scale (have one now), but did measure it at 22”. It’s my PB. Graphs online say it should be a shade over 6 lbs. I guess what I'm saying is that there are a lot of variables that affect the size of bass in a body of water, so the acreage of a pond is one variable but may or may not be the most important driver. Sounds like your pond may produce decent bass!

Agree with everyone else 3-4 pounds

I've caught them up to 6lbs out of ponds I could cast across, also in the KC area.

Looks like an honest 4 to me.

The bass you are holding appears to be around 3.5-4 pounds. Next time bring a scale or measure the length and girth of the bass to get a weight estimate.

Thanks for the replies. 3.5-4 was what I was thinking. I asked the second question because I was fishing there a couple weeks ago and saw the silhouette of what looked like a 6-7 lb bass. Just making sure I'm not crazy.

The pond could have some bass in the 6-8 pound range or bigger if the pond has a healthly population of small fish for the bass to eat.

That's the same number I had in mind, except my 6th place number would've been '5',  not 8

3.75 +/-  :)

Nice catch!!

HINT:  Hold it closer to the camera and it looks a lot larger.  Get a close up pic and tell everybody it was 7 lbs. +
