Gman just announced it on his Live today that the 2021 Bassmaster Classic will be in Texas at Lake Ray Roberts. 

Cool! Thanks for the info, never heard of it but I will be watching! 

MLF had one of their early events in North Texas and spent a round or 2 on Ray Roberts, it's about 60 miles north of Dallas. It produces a lot of big bass, has lots of timber and should make for a very interesting Classic. I am really excited and will probably attend since it's so close to me.

Is it just me, or are you guys less excited about the classic because BASS just seems watered down now that alot of the best bass fisherman in the world fish MLF?

Nope, not me.

The Bassmaster Classic is the biggest event in fishing.

I'm watching and just as excited regardless of who is there.

 

There was a lot of talent that signed with the USFL.

I still watched and was excited about the Super Bowls because that is the biggest event in football.

BASS is good

I'm just as excited as ever for the classic and BASS in general. I don't watch mlf much but I've got nothing against them. And I've been an FLW fan for a long time as well, but BASS will always be my favorite. The classic is in a league of its own. No matter who your watching in it there is just a unique feel.

It isn't JUST you, there seems to be some people who feel the same way.  I'm not, in fact, I am kind of getting bored with MLF.  At the beginning of the year, I would watch the Cup episodes every Saturday evening after fishing, now I have 2 or 3 weeks worth of episodes backed up, with the feeling that I may not get to it.

 

I have found I watch MLF for the fisherman, specifically some of their personalities, while I watch BASS for the fishing & competition.

 

Speaking of personalities, being a California native, I was always an Aaron Martens fan.  However, hearing some of the comments he makes about competitors during the Cup events is kind of turning me off.  Every other angler is lucky or doesn't know what he is doing or getting in Aarons way, it is a little much.  Maybe it is his lack of a filter that is having him say things in a manner that he really doesn't mean, but he is coming off kind of arrogant.

Pretty sure that’s just Aaron’s dry sense of humor.

I think that was part of the whole idea behind the mlf, was the entertainment aspect and showing the personalities and getting the viewer way more personally involved by allowing us to see these personalities...kinda like reality TV.  We are seeing a little bit that we've only ever seen from just a few anglers, like ike and gman.

You don't know any pro's name until they start winning and earning recognition.

If you like arrogant Ike tops charts.  Aaron has always been a shy person and uncomfortable around groups of people or in front of camera's. Cut Aaron some slack he is in serious trouble fighting brain cancer.

It's B.A.S.S. not BASS.

Now that they made it 2 divisions and 4 events it is harder.

It also makes it nearly impossible for any one that works for someone else to attempt it.

The time off to prepare and fish 4 multi day events does not exist without special circumstances. ex. awesome job

 

In the old 3 open event days: my old tourney partner missed a couple times by a handful of points

He believed it took 2 really good open events and a mediocre one.

So a top ten, a top 20 and a top 50 would put you in the hunt most years.

 

He was a river guy so he fished the central when they went to the Red river and then the Arkansas river.

He fished the southern when they fished 2 river events.

He knew under normal conditions he could pull off the 2 top 20's.

That other event was always the wild card.

 

One year he would have had the points but his co-angler put a fish in the wrong livewell

He was in 3rd place after day 1 in an event and had his big motor blow

Sometimes you need a little luck to help out too.

No, I still like the Classic.

 

It is a big reward just to make it and then if you do well it is a career starter.

 

Look at NASCAR. So many new faces this year with the old guys retiring. Still enjoy the races.

 

And the exhibition hall is fantastic. If you ever go to a Classic be sure to give yourself a day to spend in the exhibition hall.
