  1. Looks like alot of guys prefer the popping frogs...I have a few I'll have to throw more often
  2. Getting to that time of year for me and I've got a new frog rod on its way. I've used several brands and have settled on the boo yah pad crasher as my go to. For colors I throw white occasionally and black (nighttrain) 90% if the time. What's your favorite hollow body frog? Any colors stand out to you?
  3. I had it happen to the extreme a few years ago. I was walking a super spook and had a nice largemouth latch on. The fight was going, she jumped and then the fight got weird and mushy. Drug it in and there was the original 3lb fish on the front 2 hooks and a second 2lb fish on the back hook.
  4. I've never tried the braid trick on the r bend but I'm gonna give it a shot. One other thing I've done is when the wire breaks free of the lead is just super glue it back together so the wire doesn't get worked against the head.
  5. I personally prefer a softer rod for traps...but it's definitely a nice setup and will work. As for the quantum they don't get as much love as several other brands in fact they get a lot of flak sometimes. For baitcasters I use lews, Abu Garcia and even a few kastking. I have one old quantum smoke and like it as well or even better than most of my reels. It's been a workhorse.
  6. A lot depends on brand. And there is more to it in my opinion than wire diameter...I also think size of bait matters...I feel like more compact baits seem to be more durable. I use booyah, war eagle and nichols. Without a doubt Nichols is the most durable out of those three. I have a Nichols right now I've caught a few dozen on including some in the 4 to 5lb range and it doesn't even show it. Another thing I think makes a big difference is rod action. I used a medhvy extra fast for years and my spinner bait life was decent. I switched a few years ago to a medhvy moderate fast and the baits hold up much on her now.
  7. What about a compromise...maybe try copoly? A lot of guys on here rave about yo zuri hybrid. I do think that's a solid choice. I myself use 12lb izorline xxx and really like it.
  8. I agree with this as well...I use an old mojo bass spinnerbait rod which is a medhvy fast but has nice tip that's not to fast. I rarely lose jig fish on that rod.
  9. Berkley lightning rod 7ft medhvy fast..come in 1pc and 2pc models I believe..$30 at wal mart
  10. I'm right handed and reel both types right handed. Don't care about switching hands after each cast..as said above its switched before the bait splashes down.
  11. I feel like the straight tail worm has less resistance than a ribbontail so I use a lighter weight to slow the fall rate down.

I just started making my own a few years ago...not sure I'm saving money but I really enjoy tweaking colors and also having the stuff to whip up a skirt if I need one quick. Who out there makes there own? Where do you order your supplies? What are some of your favorite tab colors?
  13. I agree with this. I've been seeing a lot of non skilled people fishing my normal spots...they aren't doing much damage from what I've seen and heard. A few of my buddies are fishing but they are catch and release for bass unless they hurt one on accident so no harm there.I'm just exploring other areas and spots I've never fished or haven't fished for years and still getting some quality fish. I'm just happy I haven't lost my job..yet any ways..and that the governor still let's me even leave my house.
  14. I agree with touching the line that really helps me. Line watching is also critical..can't say how many bites I've had where all I've seen was a light jump in the line then it's swimming off slowly. I fish for northern strain largemouth and the bites are usually a moderate thump. I also have a few smallmouth in a lake I fish constantly near my house and they usually massacre the thing..just straight up almost yank the rod away from you.
  15. Im a bank fisherman myself and don't have access to deep water so the sizes I use the most are 1/8 and 3/16 depending on style of worm. I like the lighter weight for a straight tail worm..like a trick worm which is my favorite...and the bigger weight for curly tail or ribbon tail worms like a power worm or Mr twister phenom.

I'm the one in charge of the grilled and smoked meats getting made at my house. Inside the house I make a solid smashburger and my chili ain't to bad either. Also I can make a few staples like spaghetti or even something simple but easy to ruin like a pan seared chicken breast with lemon butter sauce and roasted asparagus. Plus I'm in charge of the fish frying which is done in a cast iron pan my mom gave me which looks to be a million years old. Too be honest I've always liked cooking so because of that I got kinda good at it. Well decent anyways. My specialty is my take on carnitas. It's a long drawn out process that requires breaking down a Boston butt, frying then braising then broiling the pieces and reducing the braising liquid. Takes me 4 or 5 hours to get to the end result. But I have been told by multiple friends or family members that it's the best taco they have ever had.
  17. I agree...there is no way that is the least bit true. I hate painting too..if rather fish for nasty bullheads than do it let alone a cool fish like walleyes
  18. Went to a private pond with a buddy this morning where he is a member. He's mostly a panfisherman and walleye guy. He caught several nice crappies...me not so much. At the end of the trip I picked up a chatter and caught a big gurl...5.5 to 6lb range. Said it's the biggest bass he has ever seen.
  19. I just watched that video like ten minutes ago. This happens when your a bank fisherman too..not exclusive to being in a boat.
  20. Was wondering if anybody uses the zoom swimming chunk on a swim jig? Heard that's what there designed for
  21. I'm sure this has been covered before...but is anybody using a chunk style trailer on a swim jig? If so which ones? I've really gotten into swim jigs this spring..I've used them for the last several years but something really clicked on the last month or so and they are great for me now
  22. Tell me about it. It was overcast sprinkling and 56 today with a strong north wind and I bet there was 20plus people fishing at one point in my local pond. That's nice weather holiday type numbers for around here. Forced me to try areas I normally pass by..but I caught 18 bass so it all worked out!
  23. No buzz kill at all my man. We all have our demons no doubt. I enjoy a nice drink but I lay off it a lot now..when I was younger it was a little sketchy for several years but I kinda grew out of it and can enjoy drinking without getting hammered or having to do it everyday. I'm very thankful for that as I have friends and family that don't have that off switch. Glad to hear you've got it under control.
  24. I too hate the littering thing.. I pick up crap every other trip out so..but that's life some people are just so self centered they think their convenience out weighs other people's experience. Those people are stupid and disgusting so not much you can do besides report them. As far keeping bass I'm not against it but I'm not really for it. I just feel there are better options for harvest most places but if it's done legally I don't really care. I'm not for giving fish to strangers and in some states it's not legal so that's a different deal. Another one id like to add is people walking up to me and fishing if I don't know them. The places im fishing are public but some things are still not done in my opinion. There are at least 6 or 8 good spots on the pond I fish most so if your a stranger don't walk up on me..Especially with the covid crap ramping up around here.
  25. I love the creature...every bit as good as a brush hog in my opinion.
