  1. I use a medium light exclusively for neds. Tried medium and it was too stout...tried a light -too soft. So I went in the middle.
  2. I also do not ice fish that way. I stay mobile and hunt down fish.
  3. That is not the style of cat fishing I do. I actually move alot and actively target aggressive catfish.
  4. I picked up this rod today at wal mart for like $42. I'm gonna get one of the okuma reels off amazon. So I'm just copying your combo! Decided to pick up a spinning combo specifically for cats so its easier for my girlfriend...she kinda struggles with a baitcaster.
  5. No chance in hell. There is not an abundance of good water around me so the only people that would know about a record fish I caught is my closest fishing buddies. And the picture would come with a simple tagline: keep your yap shut or no more tips and reports. One thing we do have around here is an abundance of spot leeches...guys that will find your spot and suck it dry after you figure out the area and presentation. Guys that don't know the saying you can't catch another mans fish.

I've been using them for 5 or 6 years and I've never had that happen. I had a bag of green pumpkin trds for 2 years that I fished with spring thru fall and caught probably 250 bass on that bag. Not bad for $4.

    Yep...and much less durable

  10. Like most of you bass are my primary target. I also spend a fair amount of time targeting bluegill, crappie and walleye\sauger. This fall I got back into cat fishing which I did all the time years ago and I've kind of fallen in love with it. That said I'm also getting into targeting some "other" species. I've been spending some time targeting gold eye which are basically skipjack. Its been a blast catching them on a crappie rod on a kastmaster. Thinking next year I may start doing some carp fishing. Guess I kinda just realized that I'm a fisherman not just a bass angler. Anybody out there enjoy targeting some of these so called less desirable species? If so which ones do you target!
  11. Sounds like your more understanding than I am. I to have a problem with people that won't ask for help but I also have an issue with a lack of knowledge, especially when your job title requires it. Just had a guy Monday admit he didn't understand how to lock out an Evaporator. The guy is a plant technician 3 just like me and knowledge on how to operate and isolate the process equipment is a requirement for the job. So he says I don't really understand how to safely do this and our GM...the dumba$%...says hey thanks for admitting it we will take care of it. So you admit to your boss you can't do the job your getting paid for and he gives you an atta boy. Whatever happened to actually living up to the expectations set for your position? So I have a really close friend whose a school teacher. If he went to the principal and said I know I'm supposed to teach math but I don't know how to add and subtract, I wonder if the principal would say oh don't worry about it just sit there and we will keep paying you for no reason?
  12. In years past I've fished open water then got back on that exact same spot like 4-5 days later once we got walkable ice. So guess my answer is I don't stop. Although last year I didn't do any ice fishing, mostly due to back issues.
  13. Alot of my management team is like this...unfortunately the top guy at my plant is not. He always preaches work to live and how important keeping our senior employees but his actions clearly show profit over people. Its sad that its come to this because we are a very high performing plant in our fleet. Think we have 33 facilities and we are very often in the top 5-8 on most metrics. If he keeps pushing like this the out come will not be good...I've seen it firsthand in our sister plant. He will run good people out, push the remaining ones harder and start losing them. Then our RVP will get involved because our performance will slip, find out that his "business strategy" is pushing good people out and they will kick his a#$ to the curb to stop it.
  14. Still in mega drought mode here so honestly the bass fishing in my local lake sucked. I went on a month long skunk from late August or early September until 2nd week of October. That said I regained my love for river walleye and cat fishing and that actually went pretty goid.
  15. My supervisor is exactly as you describe...great guy. My general manager seems to be a sociopath...doesn't give a d**n how his actions affect anybody but himself. He sucks.
  16. Amen to this. Got a few of those floating around at my job as well.
  17. No electric grape juice for you?
  18. Pretty straightforward...what are some good bottles under $10?
  19. You know dude you always do that. I went out today under chilly conditions and caught 6 on a chatterbait biggest being about 2.5lbs. Felt pretty good about it. Then I see your post.
  20. That's why I said I'd eat whatever I catch! Under those circumstances of course.
  21. Well I mean yeah there's that to. If I was hard up for money and starving then yeah the bass better be scared. But for me like I said normally bass fishing is solving a puzzle. If I was fishing for subsistence then I'd bottom fish with worms or cut bait and would eat whatever I catch. That's a much more economical way to do it.
  22. I know you keep telling me that! I've got no problem with anybody keeping bass but I'm in the bass are sport other fish are food camp. Unless its a bleeder to the point of goner...then ill hit it with the knife.
  23. I went to a local lake with a buddy today. Caught 6 bass on a chatterbait mini...4 dinks and 2 in the 2.5lb range. Tomorrow I'm hitting the river...hoping to score a few walleye, sauger or channel cats. I owe my BIL a bag of fish to fry.
  24. I've never seen a jighead\worm in blue back orange belly with trebles.
