Well I'm only 38 but I've always used old design lures right along side of the new ones. I still throw hula poppers, jitter bugs and rebel Pop r. In colder water I throw a size 5 rapala shad rap. For plastics I use the Mr twister phenom worm alot which is for sure an old bait. I recently started throwing the 9in jelly worm and am impressed. My favorite bait is a spinner bait...yeah maybe the components are better but that's an old bait.

Weather change didn't have any benefit this morning...fished a while and had 1 dink. May go back closer to dark see what's up.

I was 19 when I caught my pb largemouth...8lb12oz...on a crappie jig with a 2in white twister. The few people that saw it before I threw her back said they has fished this area there whole lives and it was the biggest bass they have ever seen. I'm 38 now and in the past 20 years I've figured alot of things out. In the past half dozen years I've caught alot of bass 6lbs and up including 3 in the high 7s low 8s range but my pb is still going strong 20 years running.

I actually just ordered from tackle warehouse and received everything...that includes a new rod...in under a week. Then I ordered some baits yesterday morning and last night at 7 my old lady was checking emails and said it already shipped.

That's my plan. If it pours ill sit in the truck and ride it out. Otherwise I'm taking a nice gentle nature bath.

How do you rig it?

I'm actually moving into a new position at work which should alleviate some of the annoyance as ill be more on my own and dealing less with the people im referring to. One thing I will say @J Francho is I appreciate your perspective and your general no BS attitude towards all manner of subjects. You have a great way of cutting to the core and offering constructive criticism and solutions.

Taking note of a presumed productive area and checking it out when your not jumping on someone's spot is a far cry from rolling up and rubbing rails with a guy you don't know because you can since they don't own the lake. What your doing is on the up and up as far as I'm concerned.

I took my dad to see them in 2005 for his birthday. They were in there mid 50s at the time and they were fantastic. Best concert I've been to.

I agree with you that automation is good and can make any business more efficient when its used correctly. My comment about 20 year olds not being able to change a tire was about not having basic skills it was not a comment about laziness. But if you think people in general of all ages aren't a little lazier and more entitled then I disagree with you on that. Its not all the individuals fault...I suspect something you eluded to has something to do with it. With so much automation people are getting less actual job training, people don't really do much at work other than babysit machines or computers doing everything so they are less invested because they can be. Also employers have an attitude of anybody can be replaced tomorrow since there are no skills required in alot of jobs because of technology advances. Because of that the workers don't really take pride in work or give a crap about the company because the company doesn't give a crap about them. Of course I'm speaking in generalities here...and these are just my opinions based on what I've seen and heard.

I'm also a meat fisherman on occasion..panfish and walleye. So because of that I have no issue with it. Unless I thought the guy was gonna keep bass then no way I'd help him. Or if the guy kept over his limit...then I'd never tell him again and would probably call the game warden on him.

I'm not complaining about young people..I'm complaining about lazy people. The best new hire we have had in the past few years is a 23 year old guy that just got out of the navy. He is ambitious, hard working and intelligent. My job is much more mentally draining than physically so I don't think the work sucking is the issue. Pay is always a concern of course..nobody thinks they make enough. But you can work at the gas station for $11hr, do siding and roofing for $15hr or work at the plant and spend half your work life in an air conditiined office for $18hr. I think the issue is lack of work ethic and sense of entitlement. Alot of people feel like they are special and that there time is somehow more important than everybody elses.

Agreed...that's why I said it doesn't happen much to me either. In fact the fishing around me isn't great which is awesome for me because almost everybody leaves town to seek out panfish and wall eyes. But there is the occasional moron that likes to stand in my shadow. Need more boat owners to understand this. Not only do boat guys have more access but you don't own the lake just because you've spent more money. That said most of the boat guys around here are guys I know..some I know very well...so my interactions with them are basically all positive. Had a guy in a boat approach me a few years back and ask if I knew where to find some bluegills. Gave him some spots and a few hours later he returned with a nice batch of keeper gills for supper. He then told me of a spot he saw several bass busting on shad. I went over there with a spinnrtbait and caught several nice largemouth. Be nice to see more situations like that. Anyway thanks for how you treat us lowly bank guy. Good on you my friend its much appreciated.

I'm by no means a master tradesman but my dad has had all kinds of life experience so he taught me a lot of things. Basic vehicle maintenance, plumbing,carpentry, knife sharpening and handling, gun safety, fish care and cleaning, grilling and smoking , roofing and even concrete work. But perhaps the biggest thing he taught me was troubleshooting. At my job the biggest thing that separates operators is troubleshooting...being able to quickly recognize, diagnose and work around an issue while still keeping the plant running(when feasible) until said issue is resolved. Alot of it is ability level based...comprehension, application and overall intelligence...but like so many things alot of it is just care and involvement. So many people now days are quick to jump ship at the first signs of rough water and make it somebody else's problem.

So tomorrows forecast is cooler temps,cloudy and possible rain showers starting at 7am lasting well into the night. Lately its been hot and clear so ive been throwing more finessey stuff...small popper, wacky worm, Ned rig etc. I'm excited to hopefully get a few bass power fishing. I've got buzzbait, spinner bait, popping frog and flipping jig tied on. Hopefully it works out.

Yep I'm fishing brush that's in 4-10fow. As the temp rises and the sun gets higher the bass seem to move to the first piece of cover they can find in the closest deeper water. There are almost always some up shallow tho even in the hottest part of summer.

Have seen this alot first hand especially when perch are biting.

Well ill say it used to really bother me to the point at times that I would really get wound up and say something trying to start a confrontation. Now days I'm a little more grown up and while the bent rod pattern doesn't happen to me often, when it does I move to another spot. My says off are important enough to me that I'm not going to allow something dumb to ruin it. Do I think its unethical? Absolutely...that's why I don't do it. I agree with the statement you should never try to catch someone else's fish. Buddy to buddy is different..but to spot a random dude smoking em and move in on him without even asking is pathetic. You want my fish that bad? Take em...ill find more. Most people who do this don't catch any even once they are found for them so it works itself out.

Well I've never fished that type of pit but I can tell you what I've experienced lately. Early morning I'm able to get some fish up shallow on top water and weightless senkos. Starting about 9 am the fish move but you can still find some shallow along shade lines..think over hanging trees. A popper and a frog both produce and have a wacky worm for follow up. After it really starts to warm up I've been catching them on a Texas rigged worm drug thru brush or rock piles.

Some truth in that but on the flipside how many 20 year olds can change a flat tire? Or oil? Yep..my same buddy also says if you hire potatoes you get a control room full of potatoes. They have been playing hardball with wages..not willing to pay people what they deserve. Several people have walked the past six months and management acts like they don't get why people are ticked, morale is low and guys are walking out. My philosophy has changed to instead of killing myself for the plant ill just do what they pay me for. They say the wage is competitive well so is my effort.

Was talking to a buddy at work a while back and he was commenting on how hard it is to find people that are worth a crap. Then he posed a funny question to me...Why is it that a thing that's a tool is priceless but a person that's a tool is worthless? Kind of a funny observation

Got a jerk bait hook stuck in my finger at home several months back. Past the barb and no way to push it thru. So I yanked it out which wasn't to bad honestly. Now having my girlfriend take the hook off the bait with my split rings pliers was quite an experience. At one point I told her if you twist the hook in my finger one more time I'm gonna stick one in your finger and wrench on it! I just think she was kinda worried/freaked out. After she took a deep breath and calmed down it went fine.

Been seeing alot of schools of small shad lately. I'm gonna nose hook one with an owner cps spring and dart that around. If I can cast it!

Agree. He made me some jigs last year similar to a bitsy bug with a hand tied skirt and better hook. Pretty cool little jigs.

I recently picked up a fury 734 that I've been using for weedless rigged senkos and Texas rigged worms. Been very impressed thus far.
