Jesus dude...really? The way a fish uses its gills is the same way we use lungs. The difference of course is we are taking the oxygen out of the air we breathe they are taking oxygen out if the water they breathe. All I was saying is you wouldn't put alcohol in your lungs but you'd put CO2 and acid into a fishes gills. Doesn't make any sense. At any rate if you wanna dump red bull in a fishes mouth...whatever. Just because something "works" doesn't mean you should do it.

@MN Fisher is right..a bleeding bass is a stressed bass...filling its lungs with CO2 and acid can't be healthy. Getting a bass into lake water quickly is its best chance for survival. Saying you would use alcohol on a surface wound but not in your lungs is flawed...when a bass is bleeding from the tongue or gills and you dump something in its mouth you think it won't make contact with its gills? @MN Fisher I appreciate your educated approach to this and will not be patronizing you for it.

I've had it before where they will track but not commit to a bait so a switch to another bait that is similar but slightly different gets them to eat. I've had them follow or even swat at but not eat a chatter switch to a swim jig or spinnerbait and its game on. And vise versa.

So here's the deal I've been bass fishing for 20 years. Everybody gets excited for a big trip or if your one of my northern brethren you surely get excited for ice out in the spring. But one way to tell if your ate up with bassin is if you get excited for small excursions. I went out for about 4hrs today and it was a struggle. My buddy fished a pond within 30 minutes of me, did well and gave me the lowdown on the bite. I've spent the past several hours watching fishing videos on YouTube, cruising topics on here and just anticipating tomorrow. Do you still get as excited as you ever did for fishing? I apparently still have it whatever it is

I'm hoping I come home tomorrow from my morning fishing trip and see a box sitting by the front door.

What's always been crazy to me is how comparable bodies of water that are close to each other can be fishing completely different because of a small difference in water temp. Today I really struggled..fished about 4 hours with 5 different techniques to get 4 fish. Moving baits have not been getting a sniff for me. My buddy fished a pond about 25 miles from me this morning and said the bass were chasing gills along shore. Said in a few hours he caught 12-14 bass on a swim jig...also missed several and lost several more. 2 ponds 25 miles apart...one guy gets 6 bites in 4 hours other guy gets 20 bites in 2 hrs. Ponds are both run by the same county conservation board and have similar numbers of bass to my knowledge.

Well apparently our experience is only ours and its wrong. Every person since I said no has said yes you can catch them on moving baits no matter what. As @ironbjorn said yes technically you can basically worm/jig fish a lipless or chatterbait but at that point its not a moving bait...its a bottom bait in my opinion.

Well looks like I'm not gonna get cheaper than the vmc hooks I'm already using so ill stick with those. Thanks for all the responses I agree now that I think about it that cheap is not the route to go with hooks.

In my experience no. Certain times of the year...super cold water and super hot water..there are times when its very hard to get a bite on moving baits. That's where a jig, shaky head or Ned rig really shine. That said those windows are very short...I catch fish on moving baits starting around 45ish water temp in spring up until low 80s in summer then back until mid 40s again in fall. So there is usually about 7-8months of open water here and about 2 months the moving bait bite is bad.

The problem with the vmc is the bulk packs are thin wire not heavy duty worm hooks. Pulling a bass out of brush with 15-20lb copolymer and a thin wire hook? Now that's asking for problems!

I recently put in a small order ($63) to tackle warehouse. Today when I got the package it only had about half the stuff. Checked the confirmation and shipping email and showed all of it as in stock and shipped. Is it common for TW to send an order in 2 shipments? Just curious because I've never had this

So I usually use gamakatsu,vmc or mustad but lately I've been going thru alot of hooks. I've been fishing brush piles from shore which has been productive but also a terminal tackle death wish. So I'm looking for some more moderately priced options. Any recommendations?

There's some truth to this I'm sure but all I can base it off are the people ive been around.

I recently replaced an Abu Garcia ike rod 7ft2 medhvy fast 3/8-1oz with a 7ft 3 dobyns fury heavy fast 1\4-1oz. Rods are supposedly almost identical but the Abu was much stiffer.

Just found a baby bass big o a few weeks back. New rings and hooks and gave it to a buddy just getting into bass fishing. First time throwing it he lost a nice bass. Told him that's part of the learning curve with cranks.
