Shaky head. Am I late this year?
It’s been my experience that bass will eat any color trick worm with shaky head. I do prefer June bug, watermelon red, black, scuppernong by zoom. You’ll do fine with the green pumpkin though. What clarity of water are you fishing?

Shaky head. Am I late this year?
I literally landed four yesterday at the boat ramp on Lake Jordan here in my home town on a 1/4 oz luck-E-strike jig head with a Zoom June bug trick worm all within the first 20 minutes. As mentioned earlier, never too late to start. I also catch bass all season long on shakey head and it’s my favorite technique. Shakey head is to me what top water is to others in terms of that excitement you feel when the line bumps. It’s just a no brainer for me when it comes to using it or not as I ALWAYS have a shakey head rig with me when I go fishing. I caught the bulk of my bass last year on a shakey head when nothing else worked.

$150 Zebco combo!
Same here. My wife doesn’t care what I buy as long as the bills are taken care of and she has some walking around money of her own. She also doesn’t understand the differences between a $50 bc and a $200 bc. She does love to fish though and that is a blessing as well.

Man I love shakey head! Got four today!
Luck-E-Strike 1/4 Finesse jig head. Nine times out of ten I’m using a 3/16 myself but all I had in my tackle tray was a few 1/4, but they did the job.

Shakey head is also the one technique where even the weird colors seem to produce just as much as the natural or more common producing colors do. It’s truly the one technique I have no qualms about buying any color in. I have caught more bass on shakey head than any other type and it is the best feeling in the world when folks ask me what I have been using after they see me reel them in one after another.

Man I love shakey head! Got four today!
My wife is six months pregnant right now so while she napped this afternoon I took a trip to the boat ramp. Mildly stained water with not much shade and fishing the bank where I could. The water is always heavily pressured due to constant boat launches to boot so I tied on the tried and true 1/4 oz shakey head jig with a zoom June Bug trick worm and fished the weeds and the docks. They were all small maybe a pound each at best, but it was awesome. My pics won’t load because they are too large in size. You just can’t beat a shakey head setup I don’t care who you are! It has worked for me when nothing else will/would.

Baits that are hot and cold for you?
Good topic. For me I would have to say spinner bait actually. Last year was a lost cause for me with the chatterbait and now I have been having some luck with them whereas the spinner bait has been DOA so far.

Actual good finds at pawnshops/thrift stores?
Have any of you ever actually found a good rod/reel at a pawnshop for a decent price? I normally only go to a pawnshop or thrift store just to see what I can find and all they ever have is combos that it seems like they recovered from the titanic. They always price them astronomically and on top of that the condition is always poor too. Edit: I told a lie, I did actually find a lews Mach 1 combo at a local pawnshop about a year ago for $89 that was in pretty good shape, but I passed on it as I had just ordered a new Abu combo from bass pro. I think the lews Mach 1 combo retailed for $139 at the time too.

Chatterbait Shakey head T-Rig Craw Im gonna start Trigging ribbon tales too pretty soon.

Wow. The Vanford 2500 was available for just one evening.
Yeah I know the feeling. Every time I find the lews kvd bait caster in stock in the speed that I want, I end up procrastinating and it’ll be gone in the speed I want.

As the season progresses, do you get ridiculous tan lines?
This! But I also cannot stand dealing with sunburns for days on in especially at work.

6th Sense Provoke Jerkbaits
I don’t remember the brand, but I ordered a couple from tackle warehouse that had props built on the tail of them. No luck with them.

Daiwa Tatula SV TW is kinda loud and not as smooth as I was expecting.
I will also add to the OP to not be discouraged. The lews in my last example is a fine reel for its use(s) of jig/spinner bait rig and the noise does not cut into the performance at all. Your dawai will still perform well once you grease and oil it.

I do understand my friend. I actually have a lews tournament SLP that I paid more money for new and it works just fine, but sounds like a Cessna taking off. That’s everywhere in any product line I figure.

6th Sense Provoke Jerkbaits
Anyone used/use these with any luck? I know that’s a broad question given everyone fishes mostly different conditions and such, but I have been wanting to try them and just haven’t pulled the trigger. Im interested in floating these jerkbaits in clear to “dimly” stained water.

My tatula 100 hasn’t given me a bit of trouble in a year of use and sounds great. It’s my favorite reel out of my bunch.

Tatula 100H 6.3:1 on the way. Needs a rod?
My tatula 100 is setting on an Abu Vendetta 6’9” MF for my shakey head rig. I absolutely love this setup and couldn’t have made a better pairing(for my budget).

What bait/lure or technique do you struggle with the most?
I literally am ashamed to admit that I do not own a single Rebel in my entire tackle lol Bait monkeys next visit ought to remedy that lol

What bait/lure or technique do you struggle with the most?
The WP for me has only caught two bass in over a year. Yo-Zuri Hybrid poppers have been working just fine for me as well as my Strike Pro Swing Pop.

What bait/lure or technique do you struggle with the most?
Ive been told as well that DC reels help out with this. That was my feelings as well up until about three weeks ago. I swear the fish knew that I was about to wet a chatterbait. Then they started biting.

My wife and I are expecting our first in August. I am definitely on board with you on this one! Belated congrats!

What bait/lure or technique do you struggle with the most?
I’m sure this question has been beat to death, but to be honest I use topics like these to get an idea of things I haven’t tried and see if they work for me. All fisherman have a lure or technique that flat out just doesn’t put the food on the table. Even if your on the water with a buddy and they are burning it up with a particular lure and you try the exact same lure or presentation, but to no avail. It is very frustrating for me. My best friend and partner in life, my wife, murders bass with a crank bait. Not just any one crankbait, but ANY crankbait. I could have my wife sling a crankbait down our front lawn….and she would catch fish. Her luck is just that good with cranks. Crank baits are to her what shakey head are for me so I’m not getting skunked when we are out except on the crankbait. I’m to the point where I don’t even consider cranks for tackle because I have such a terrible time with them and only buy for her the ones she wants. Wacky rigs are also very slow on the come up for me as I’ve had no luck with those either, but admittedly I don’t use them near as often as my shakey heads. What is the seemingly lost cause lure/bait/presentation for you?

Daiwa Tatula Elite OR Shimano Curado 70 MGL K
I can’t speak to the shimano myself, but my tatula has been absolutely flawless since new. I’ve converted this reel to setup over setup from shakey head to heavy jigs and it just performs. Mine is currently mounted on an Abu Vendetta 6’9” M/F and is amazing.
