Depends on what you are looking for to satisfy your fishing needs. The Japanese have a tendency to keep a lot of their JDM products for themselves thus not all the product line gets released to the US. For instance you can get a Poison Adrena in the states but not a Poison Glorious or Ultima. The same goes for reels although that has loosened up a bit over the past few years. In my opinion if you are someone who does not maintain your own reels then that would lessen the benefit for you. As far as lures go just visit a JDM website and see the differences in the colors and product that are available. If you find an itch well then scratch it......

Looks like a 12 Antares HG.....what does it say on the right side plate. Let me add this the spool tension knob would of been completely knurled if it were a Calais or Calais DC. The nose is more pronounced like a 12 and the HG models had black handles.

FT, I think the spring you reference is the Damper Spring which allows the side plate to pop open when the lock is released. Next time you take it out take the spring and dip it into your tub of drag grease enough to cover the bottom . When you reinsert it back into the hole the grease will hold it in place and make the alignment a lot easier.....

The ones that get "used" the most are....Megabass, Jackall, Imakatsu and of course Lucky Craft. I like John want a bait out of the package and onto the water ready to go. Certainly have extra hooks and split rings but look to use them only when one gets destroyed by the usual suspect Mr. Tooth.

It will have a brass main gear....

Antares was the JMD , Calais was the US Version.....both were in 6.2.....If you have any questions after you get it let me know.

1997-2011 they made 6.2 however the new 19 Antares is available in a 6.2 as well.

Very smooth and solid reel , you might want to order a worm shaft bearing along with 2 knob bearings though. Have a XG and HG the XG is on a CNQ 843 throwing 3/8 jigs while the HG is still in the box.....

Have been using a Met MGL for 3 years mounted on a NRX 893C tossing weightless senkos . With that said haven't had an issue with the pinion or main and yes I bought a set of new gears but have yet to install them. My feeling is if you keep the gears greased and do not run them dry you will be good. Have also found that ZPI F-0 Medium Grease holds longer than the Ace 2.......

They come with #5 hooks which were replaced with #4's, front hook has a split ring so it was just a matter of opening the eye on the rear just enough to swap out....used Owner 36's .

Finally got out the last couple of weeks with one mounted on a Conquest 782C and spooled with 15lb. Armilo designated for top water use. Normally a Antares/Calais DC are my reels of choice for this and was ready to get another 16 DC before the 19 was employed . Needless to say there will be another 19 on the way since in my opinion it gives the 16 DC a real run for its money. The 19 was completely torn down and massaged along with replacing the worm shaft bushing with a bearing. With that said and having a fair amount of Antares to play with the 19 is one sweet finely tuned reel that should not disappoint you.....
