  1. Coppertone Waterbabies. Plenty of SPF.
  2. Don’t know if 7’ is just too long for you. But if not, take a look at a Kistler Helium.
  3. My wife and oldest daughter are going to Europe for 10+ days at the end of May. No. I. Don’t. Plan. On. Going. Fishing. Babe. ?
  4. Series win over the Rays. These O’s are for real. Starting pitching is getting the job done and Cano may be headed to the All-Star game in July. He’s untouchable!
  5. We may see Cano work his way into the closer position if he keeps pitching lights out.
  6. Do you mean split ring?
  7. @PTasker15 I use a leader so I can break it off if needed. I’d rather snap the knot at the hook on a snag with mono that trying to break 20 lb. braid. Plus, I find it much easier to tie knots on terminal tackle with mono vs braid. I carry a small spool of 6 or 8 lb. mono with me and I use a Lefty Kreh leader knot, which I can tie in my sleep, so changing out leaders takes 60 seconds.
  8. I have three spinning reels- all braid -to-leader. Two are spooled with 20 lb. Suffix 832 in green. The other is spooled with 20 lb. Seaguar Smackdown in Flash Green. All have 6 or 8 lb. mono leaders. I like Sufix 832, but when I need to respool it will be with Smackdown. It’s smooth and supple, and on days where the Sufix is extremely difficult to see, the Smackdown stands out. With a 6’ leader, spooking bass doesn’t seem to be an issue.
  9. Very easy. Mine is green pumpkin w/black flake. I rig it both ways. Always on a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG. Another great skipping bait is the Neko Macho. Which I gave up rigging as a Neko rig as I caught way more fish as a weightless TR. Both baits have enough mass to cast easily without weight. And while I’ve caught my share of bass working either one along the bottom, many times it gets slammed as soon as it hits the water. Both the Fat IKA and the Neko Macho are always in my tackle box.
  10. Not to worry. It’s not like they’re playing Tamp…oops!
  11. Thanks for the replies. I could see if numerous bass had tore them up, but that ain’t the case lol.
  12. I have a couple of frogs (don’t remember the mfg). I used both on Friday and both sank after the third cast. I squeezed the water out and it was the same. I’m not a big frog guy but I have a spot with reeds that a frog is perfect for. What’s a good frog that doesn’t sink?
  13. No, but I have mono spooled on the reels so no issues with leader knots.
  14. @Motoboss I do not have that rod, but I do have a Kistler Helium MH/F. The rod is excellent. I picked it up at their shop (which is very nice). I have no doubt you will be pleased!
  15. Tough series against the Braves. Today’s loss in extra innings was painful.
  16. Only two hours, but did catch early off a Whopper Plopper 90. This was the first. The second was two times as long as the bait lol.
  17. One of the things I learned via trial and error is that a lot of my casts with spinning rigs were made by snapping my wrist, elbow, etc. Jerky casts and baitcasters are anathema. Pitching and flipping aside, casting a bait on a baitcaster requires letting the rod load up as the rod flexes backwards before casting forward. Snapping it normally results in some manner of bird’s nest. And while I do adjust my brakes accordingly, IMO nothing beats my thumb. Unless my mind wanders lol.
  18. @GRiver thanks for posting about those heads. Just ordered some along with some new tube baits.
  19. There’s about 45 ponds plus Lake Woodlands and Bear Branch Reservoir you can fish here. Most seem to get fished, some heavily. But most do not seem to target bass or if they do, are not that skilled.
  20. What is and isn’t profanity is an interesting subject. When I was a lad, saying something sucks or blows was looked upon as profanity. I don’t think too many folks bat an eye at those two words anymore. After twelve years of parochial school, joining the Army opened my eyes to profanity. But man, oh man! No branch of service can touch the Navy when it comes to profanity. I guess being at sea with nothing but men does that to a fella! ?
  21. Welcome to BR. I’m north of Houston in The Woodlands. You will learn a LOT from this site. One bad thing to learn about is the Bait Monkey. He’s relentless! My condolences on your loss.
  22. My Dobyns Fury 705CB (MH/MF) casts well with light lures and still has decent power to get fish out of cover. I’ve even found it to work very well casting weightless Texas rigs with decent-sized soft plastics like the Neko Macho or Fat IKA. They cast far and I’ve had no issue with positive hook sets.
  23. Man, I remember those ads in Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, etc. In a way, it almost looks like dirty pool that after Childres’ death that Shimano simply took his concept and ran with it. Business is cutthroat.
  24. Can we use ✌✌quotes? ?
