  1. The only fishing on TV that I can recall in the 60s was on American Sportsman, (maybe) Wide World of Sports, and local anglers Bill Burton and Lefty Kreh on local broadcasts. B.A.S.S. didn’t exist until 1967 and I don’t think there were any tournaments on broadcast TV that I can recall.
  2. I like fishing both. I’d say I average more bass on a wacky rig but bigger bass on a Texas rig. Regardless, to me, nothing beats working a TR and feeling that tap-tap-tap and setting the hook. It’s my favorite way to fish.
  3. Well, that makes a difference! Availability has a way of determining what we do or don’t get.I’m sure the St. Croix Victory will serve you well. But so will the Mojo Bass you mentioned if it’s available. Good luck with whatever you decide on!
  4. I use a Falcon Lowrider LFC-7MHF as my primary Texas rig rod. At $129.99, it’s a great rod at that price.
  5. I don’t even like those fake corks in wine bottles. Taint natchural! ?
  6. Did you set up the spool tension by loosening it, and then tightening it until the spool barely has any side-to-side play? That should help eliminate most backlashing. It is a different “feel” to casting a baitcaster vs a spinning rig for sure. Far casts rarely cause issues if the reel is adjusted properly (brake and spool tension). It’s short casts that aren’t smooth that get you when you’re learning.
  7. Look here. Lots of ponds. https://www.fishinginthewoodlands.com/
  8. Well, I going to talk about my Fuego, but…lol. No worries. I also have a Tatula 100H. It’s on a Dobyns Fury 705CB as my primary crankbait rig. But yours has a higher ratio like my Fuego, which is on a Falcon Lowrider MH/F as my primary set-up for Texas rigs. Both are great reels.
  9. Wow. @thediscochef, I never thought in a 1,000,000 years that I would ever be mentioned in this thread. I’m honored! And humbled!

Been one since the late 60s. Can’t see I disagree!
  11. I only have one Dobyns. A 705CB. I love the rod, but the cork leaves much to be desired. My Falcon Lowrider is superb. My Fenwicks have some really nice cork grips and the rods look great. They fish well, too.
  12. I have that situation repeatedly in my inflatable. I’ve caught several nice bass on a weightless TR with a Zoom Trick while it drags slowly due to drifting. I think it’s actually better than my action with the rod.
  13. It’s be great to sit in a tree in early September looking for bucks still in summer mode, followed by looking for some early fall bass.
  14. No funeral. No service. I want my ashes spread in the Appalachian Mountains in Western Maryland. My wife wants the same, but ashes spread in the Atlantic Ocean.
  15. I won’t name any pros as I have no real interaction with any. As far as members here? @A-Jay I’d love some big smallmouth @WRB Just to hear his tales in person @TnRiver46 That’s a bass catcher @roadwarrior Another bass catcher! @hokiehunter373 Never met him in person, but have “known” him for years from bowhunting on an archery site. It’d be nice to fish with a friend
  16. It’s all I use. See the line move (or stop), lift the rod tip and reel it in and the hook is set.
  17. All I use. Great hooks and easy hooksets upon reeling in the line.
  18. No, but I almost slipped off the bank and did the American crawl lol!
  19. Well, only one and right at dark, but it beat the skunk and stopped a streak of nada the past few outings. I missed one earlier on a light bite; this time I gave it a couple seconds to commit. 4” #956 Senko on a 3/0 EWG.
  20. Eat a frog like that? Hooks are facing the wrong way!
  21. Pretty easy for me. What keeps me going, with either a rod, bow or gun in my hand, is knowing one day I will never hunt or fish again. Either due to age, disability, or death. Knowing I may never cast a lure again due to those factors is great motivation. Whether from boat or bank.
  22. I always looked forward to buying a new rifle and scope. Never got “excited” about buying ammunition (not counting handloading). I feel the same way about fishing. All are important components, but the rod and reel is in my hands. The bass may bite the lure, the line may transmit the strike, but I feel it in the rod and land it with the rod and reel. But I hate it lol that even after spending $$$ on a new rod that I’m looking at…new rods. Damned BM!

I’ve done well with electric blue Senkos. And blue/black jigs seem to be extremely common.
  24. Fish? Fishing? What is this “fishing” of what you speak? I was merely enjoying nature. Sorry I cannot help you!
  25. “Get thee to a spawning bed!”
