  1. I haven’t tried that yet, but I may this evening. I bet that’s a great presentation! They are great alone or a trailer. They have great action.
  2. I think I caught this bass in March. Here is yesterday’s pic: This bass weighed 3.64 lbs on my scale. This is the bass from March. It weighed 3.48 lbs. It seems to have the same small marking under the lateral line, as well as a dark spot on the pectoral fin. Very close in weight as well and caught in the same area of the pond.
  3. I don’t care if he’s holding it to make it look bigger or not lol. That’s a monster sunfish! I bet it fought like hell! Congrats to that angler!
  4. Agreed. I like my MF baitcaster for treble hook baits. Especially jerkbaits and topwaters like Whopper Ploppers and Megabass Pop Max. But a spinnerbait or 3/8 oz jig with a trailer? No way. I want a MHF for that. But...it’s the question I recently asked. One rod’s M is another’s MH, or vice-versa. With no true standard, it can be a crapshoot. My Falcon Lowrider MHF is considerably more “MH” than my Daiwa Aird-X MHF.
  5. Thanks. If you’re only going to catch one, it’s a lot better than a solo dink lol. Which is still better than the dreaded skunk! ?
  6. Today was old school. Stopped off for two hours after work. We had a lot of rain the past few days and had thunderstorms earlier today. The water level in the pond is high, so I figured the bite may be off. It was. Started with a jerkbait. Then a Zoom Trick weightless TR, a XZone Adrenaline Craw...nuthin. So I went back in time and rigged a ol’ fashioned Mann’s Jelly Worm in blackberry with a 1/8 oz tungsten bullet weight on a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG hook. Had that rigged on my Falcon Lowrider MHF and a Daiwa Fuego CT. It’s a rarity that I add weight to Texas rigs as the pond is mostly shallow and weights tend to get fouled in muck. I cast parallel to the bank and worked it back, and recast a bit further out. I don’t know if it sank more than 6” before it got slammed hard. I don’t even recall setting the hook. I think it hit it so hard it set the hook itself. It’s a nice bass, but I thought it was bigger. It really fought hard and it came all the way to the bank and into the weeds. I had no problem horsing it out with the Falcon. I’m really loving that combo! It spooled with 10 lb Berkley Big Game.
  7. I’ve been up a tree bowhunting and had a nearby tree simply fall down without warning. It’s enough to scare the living crap out of you. Trees near water are prone to falling for the reasons you mentioned. Good post.
  8. I wish I did it with baits. I envy anglers that can recall every make, model and color of every lure they have. If it ain’t a #956 Senko, I’m stumped! ?
  9. I created a Note in my iPhone for each rig (reel model, rod model, line type and lb. test). It’s easy peasy to look at if I can’t recall. If I change line type or lb. test I edit and save.
  10. I can’t add anything to this. Spot on.
  11. I’ve had good luck with an XZone Adrenaline Craw lately on a TR.
  12. Welcome to BR!
  13. I have two, and I agree. Not a bad reel for the price, but not worth putting in $$$ for upgrades. Keep it stock.
  14. I had to heed the Bait Monkey’s call again. I needed some new Neko Machos, so TW to the rescue! Also needed a resupply of #956 Senkos, and figured I’d rather get free shipping, so I added a Megabass Vision 110 jerkbait lol. Neko Macho Watrmln Copper Org Red Laminate 4.5" 1 Neko Macho Generals Watermelon 4.5" 1 Yama 4" Senko Watrmln Copper Orange Red Laminate 2 Vision 110 Gill 1
  15. It’s illegal is several states. And more likely to follow.
  16. For $79.99, Daiwa Procyons are some nice rods. Decent cork grips and (at least my MF spinning) is pretty sensitive. Actually, so is the Aird-X.
  17. I fish mostly in ponds. Wacky rigs worked back in tend to pick up a lot of algae and muck. Your waters may be different. It’s better in my boat. From the bank it’s almost impossible keeping the hook from getting fouled working it back.
  18. I’m not disagreeing with you. Not by a long shot. I started with a Black Max (well, actually with a Daiwa Millionaire 3H, but that was over 40 years ago and I had a 30-year hiatus lol). Then two BM’s. Then I bought a Fuego CT. I still fish the Black Max’s. To be honest, I still fish them, and like them. One is on a Daiwa Aird-X MHF and the other on a Aird-X MF. The Fuego is on a Falcon Lowrider MHF I set up as my main soft plastics rig. The Black Max is as inexpensive a baitcaster as you can get. But unless I lucked out and bought two gems, they aren’t bad reels. Time will tell, of course, and they likely won’t last as long as the Fuego, but so far, so good. And one one is a RH retrieve and the other is LH, and I fish both equally well.
  19. True. Felt soles can introduce zebra mussels and other invasive undesirable species to waterways.
  20. A Daiwa Fuego would be a great choice. Set the spool tension just enough to stop the spool from clicking side-to-side (no wobbling) and set the magnetic brake to 10 and cast. Let off the brake as needed. My first cast cast with a Fuego CT on a Fenwick HMX HF rod with a 2 oz swimbait went a country mile without a hitch. It’s an easy baitcaster to start with.
  21. Or double it through the hook eye. Or tie a Trilene knot.
  22. I’ve caught bass that way. One about 6” from the boat. But IMO, at least 85%-90% of my catches are on the initial cast and fall. It’s not even close. So most of the time when fishing cover if I don’t get bit on the first cast, I’ll retrieve it and cast it again vs working it back. Seems to reduce a lot of fouled hooks, too!
  23. It’s DB, not DD lol. And that’s the $$$ of a real nice Dobyns rod. Hopefully she’s not in Hermès. This is a strap. Just. A. Strap.
  24. I used to work for Westinghouse Defense (now Northrop/Grumman) in Maryland. First as a lab tech processing integrated circuits and later as an A&P mechanic (the “new” term is AMT lol). I’ve had this dilemma with hunting and fishing purchases forever. I counter it with purses. If you need 37 purses, I need new baits! Besides, there is no Purse Monkey!
