Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Not a big buy, but needed a new squarebill as I increase my crankbait selection. Picked up a 6th Sense Crush 3/8 oz. in Tipped Crawfish. Only dives 3’-5’, which should be good for the ponds I fish. Also saw Senkos in watermelon/cream laminate (#901) that looked good. And I always need Gammy 3/0 EWG hooks.

Top 5 Rod & Reel Combos
Good info. Since I just added a M/MF rod and a 6.3:1 reel for crankbaits, I’m covered!

How do yall approach “Let the fish talk?”
Don’t change horses in midstream!

When I was a kid (late '60s to' 70s) I always had Daredevles in my tackle box.
Those were the tiny ones with the double hooks, right? We caught bluegills and crappie (and some small dink bass) on those back in the day.

Best BBQ
About a 1.5 hr drive from my house. May do that one day.

Wacky Rig Fishing is EXPENSIVE
My o-rings roll right onto the Senko. I see no need for a tool.

Xps Ewg compared to the Gamakatsu Ewg hook
I think bowhunting has fishing beat by a country mile. Daiwa vs Shimano doesn’t scratch the surface of Mathews vs Hoyt. I use Easton aluminum XX78 arrows. According to close to 95% of bowhunters today, I’ll never kill a deer with one and should use the shafts as tomato stakes lol.

Who Carries Daily.....and What Do You Carry...and Why..?
I carry a Kahr K9 9mm pretty much daily. It’s actually a Lady K model, which has a lighter recoil spring and is not rated for +P ammunition. At times when I want something a little lighter and smaller I carry a S&W Sigma .380. Id love to carry my Star Firestar .45 ACP more, but it is heavy. But such a great shooter. Being in Texas, I could open carry my Cimmaron Arms Model P in .45 Colt, but no lol. THAT is a real shooter. With Goex black power cartridges, I had 4 touching and one off the cluster by 0.375” at 25 yards.

What do you prefer?
Put that Black Max on a 7’ Aird-X MH/F rod with 10 or 12 lb Berkley Big Game or YZH and go fishing. I have two Black Max’s on Aird-X’s. One is a M/F and the other a MH/F. They both work well and I’ve caught many bass on both. They might not last forever but so far I have no complaints. But start off with a MH/F as it’s more versatile.

Best BBQ
If you want beef high and fast, you need to try a pit beef sandwich from the Baltimore area. It’s not BBQ, and it’s not brisket. It’s a huge steamship round that’s cooked on a hot charcoal fire and sliced paper-thin on a deli meat slicer. Piled high on rye or a Kaiser roll with sweet Vidalia onions, salt and fresh-ground black pepper, horseradish and barbecue sauce, it’s fantastic. Especially when you get it medium-rare with some burnt ends mixed in.

Went to the store. Interesting observations
I have two Aird-X’s (both baitcasters) and one Procyon (spinning). All are nice rods. The cork grips on the Procyon surprised me. They are nice grips. Not sure what Academy you frequent, but the ones close to me have some decent rods. I just picked up a Dobyns Fury FR705CB there a few days ago.

Wacky Rig Fishing is EXPENSIVE
I struggle to grasp why many say fishing a WR is boring. 90% of the time I cast, let it sink, if no strikes, reel it in and cast again. Which to me is not much different than casting other baits and reeling them in. I rarely work a Senko WR back. The vast majority of my strikes are on the initial fall. Casting, sink, reel back and cast again IMO is not that boring. Watching the slack line run is certainly not boring!

Neko Rig or Shaky Head from the Bank ?
A Neko rigged Neko Macho works great from the bank. But truth be told, I prefer a Neko Macho as a weightless TR on a 3/0 EWG hook. I find it more versatile. It can get bit on the drop and working it on the bottom slowly, hopping it, etc. It’s become one of my go-to’s.

Spinning Reel Line Attachment?

Wacky Rig Fishing is EXPENSIVE
I use a single o-ring. Many times the Senko will be 6” up the line but still held by the o-ring. Sometimes I lose one or two. They catch bass. I live with it lol!

Tatula 100H 6.3:1 on the way. Needs a rod?
Just spooled the Tatula with 10 lb. Big Game, set the drag and spool tension and set the brake at 10 to start. Tied on a 6th Sense Provoke 106X jerkbait to start. Hopefully this weekend.

Very nice surprise
Very nice collection and what a beautiful gesture.

Boating Fatality Facts ~
When it comes to drinking alcohol (which I do on occasion at the correct time and place) and fishing, I can't see it. Do I get wasted on one beer? No, of course not. Does it interfere with things like tying knots, casting accuracy, etc.? I say yes, it does. I need or want no part of that when fishing from the bank. Let alone a boat.

Fenwick HMX Reviews.......So So
I think if you read enough posts on this site alone, it seems almost every brand of rod breaks. Not to denigrate your experience. Just seems to be true. It doesn’t take much of a flaw in the graphite during the manufacturing of a rod to induce a weak point that will snap under a load. But it stinks that you had two break.

Anyone have the falcon expert head turner.
Never touched one. But I have a Lowrider. Falcon makes some nice rods. Yours looks great!

Fenwick HMX Reviews.......So So
Spankey, a Fenwick HMX 66M-FS-2 is one of my favorite finesse rods. It’s paired with a Daiwa Revros LT2500 with 20 lb Sufix 832 and a 6 lb mono leader. I really like the action and I like the way it looks at well. I also have a HMX 76H-FC baitcasting rod. But 7’ 6” rods aren’t a great fit in my small boat and I rarely need a heavy rod.

Tatula 100H 6.3:1 on the way. Needs a rod?
So, I got delayed a day but picked up the Dobyns FR 705CB today. I looked at some other rods as well (St. Croix Bass X, Falcon Buccoo, Loomis E6X), but decided I liked this one best. Funny thing. They had this rod and a FR 703C (MH/F). The 705CB is a MH/MF). In the store, I could not detect much difference. I’m sure casting and fishing with it you can, but I really couldn’t in the store. Looking forward to using it soon!
