  1. Just about all the original GB baits are excellent for bottom contact. I like the bigger profile of the snake O and ATR so I'm excited to try out there new neko baits. I have noticed that GB has changed packaging 3 times in as many years which made me think the company was changing hands. I was sad when they changed that potent garlic scent and just recently I found out they discontinued El Jeffe which boggles my mind as it was 1 of the top 3 colors. They really don't offer a color that's close to El Jeffe either.
  2. Its hard to interpret what he meant without understanding what his definition of distance would be. If I hit my target from 50' out it would be considered accurate, but if I hit the target from 15' out it wouldn't be?
  3. I think accuracy is just as if not more important when your pitchin/flippin then casting. Lots of times you have to hit the fish right on the head and the hole in the mat may only be the size of a billiard ball.
  4. USDM line doesn't reduce the rating they use a different system than that of the JDM lines, thats why the dia is so much lower then UDSM lines. USDM lines list the minimum breaking strength where JDM lines list the maximum. I'm curious about them and haven't heard many reviews. What do you think of your so far?
  5. Zinkerz last a while, but the weight and buoyancy changes the longer you use them and or the more fish you catch. A weightless Zinker wont sink after a while and you have to use increasingly heavier weight to get the same fall rate.
  6. If you have room for it the 8'6 ML XF LTB with a 4k Vanford or Luvias would wing a little swimbait
  7. 13 makes some rods that awful hard to beat for the price. The balance on the 7'4 H F probably weighs about 5oz or a little less. The rod isnt tip heavy and balances well, so as long as you have a reel that isn't too light its not going to feel tip heavy like the SLX's.
  8. The 7'4 H F Omen Black is a nice H action rod that doesn't feel like a pool cue and isn't tip heavy. The yak version has a shorter handle by a couple inches. If handle length isnt an issue and you dont mind spending a few more $ the 7'4 Victory would be good too.
  9. VS, ZeeBass, and the mid-higher end Penns but not the best reels for LMB/SMB
  10. I use backing on shallow and braid ready spools. You want the backing to be stacked as even as possible. Generally thinner line gets better results then thicker line. For L and ML gear I only use about 60 or 65 yards of braid. You only use the first 25-30 yds anyway and after the outer layer gets ropey I flip it and start over.
  11. Bottom-Tokyo Rig. They come through grass like a T rig and they keep the bait just out of the slimy bottom of ponds. Middle-Swim a jig. If you use the right jig you can pitch, swim, skip and drag it to find where the bite is. Top-Go with a with a frog
  12. I use M/F for just about anything if I can get away with it. I broke my new PB throwing a DJ Finesse Swim Jig. I was at the end of T shaped dock and I had to drag her from the end of the right side all the back to where the dock meets the bank on the left side and there was a thick layer of grass and algae on both sides of the dock that ran to the top of the T. The 12lb BG was stretching like a rubber band, but I'm glad because had it been 12 Inviz it would have broke for sure. She was wiped pretty fast. I was terrified she was going to break off and die from exhaustion. I bought a 7'2 MH MF Omen Black for ChBs and heavier cranks. I used it for flipping and pitching t rigs one day in April and its had a Trig tied on since.
  13. Pond is a somewhat relative term. In my the majority of ponds are for irrigation so they aren't bigger then a couple acres. What they call ponds in NE are as big or bigger then most of of what we lakes down here. In small ponds the fish get an education real fast. If they're spooky, just your footsteps will flare them. Bright colored clothes don't help either. Without culling smaller fish the resources in a small pond will be depleted and the fish that are affected first are the bigger ones. Try being as quiet as possible when walking and even shutting your car door. Try to use something different. If you see dozens of wrecked senkos and dingers all over the ground, don't use a senko. This time a year the water can be full of fry, which is really hard to compete with. Try scaling down and if that doesn't work see if you cant find the bite elsewhere for a little while then try it again.
  14. GP/Amber Green Weenie Gooseberry Smoke
  15. I do the same thing with Biffle Bugs, except I put the weight in the cavity of the bait. It seems to work best this time of year when the fish are guarding fry.
  16. Cabelas made some quality products especially in the 90s. I never owned one of the Salt strikers, but I took a few casts with one my buddy had and it was comparable to my Tidemasters.
  17. It depends on the design of the eye of the hook and where you're fishing. The VMCs eye is inline with the shank and the Owners are offset which changes the angle of the hook. I run single belly hooks so that the point is facing rearward. That way it doesn't catch as much grass and is less likely to catch a scale from a bunker when your working your plug through a school. I think so too. You have a much wider gap and once there hooked they don't come unbuttoned. The only drawback with some of the short shank singles is the beak style point. They work as they were designed, but if you roll a point they're harder to sharpen then a standard point.
  18. Its the complete opposite for me, I smash em on BBs.
  19. Yes they are legit. The Lovebugs and Flip Flops have done really well for me. The soft plastic gives them excellent action. Naturally people complain about the durability. If you a hook with a screw lock or just thread a screw lock into the top of the bait and thread the offset through it you will get more fish per bait.
  20. It seems like the Green rods have a different power and action rating compared to the freshwater lines. Im pretty sure they still use that 30t PVG in the Fate Black and there MLs arent as soft.
  21. which ones? I would recommend checking them out in person if its possible. The action and feel is a little different from line to line.
  22. The iR Genesis and the Premiers/Triumphs hold up to salt pretty well. Purpose built saltwater rods generally use components (guides, hoods etc) that are more resistant to corrosion and there is more epoxy around the guides and wraps to keep the feet from corroding. Wipe the guides down with a wet paper towel after your done fishing and or gently rinse them with cool freshwater.
  23. 13 makes some good rods for the money, the 36T blanks have really good actions. Check out the Fate Black, Fate V3 and the Omen Black. The reel you have is pretty light, unless your going to counterbalance the rod a ML is probably the way to go. I havent been able to get my hands on 1, but if what my buddy said is true the MajorCraft Nanoace rods may be the best deal on the market.
