  1. What kind of head is that?
  2. Every color I've tried works, molting craw, pbj, mudbug, cali craw, perfect perch have all done well but if I could only have 1 color it would be blkblu.
  3. I like to use shallow running crank baits in submerged grass like that. I try to keep the bait ticking the top of the grass. The swim jig is my favorite option when the conditions are too calm for a spinner bait or bladed jig.
  4. You can minimize the amount snagging grass by using the lightest weight possible and or using ewg ned heads with the smallest hook possible.
  5. I like braid to leader. If you want a little stretch you can use 10 or 12 ft of mono instead of FC. The leader also protects the mainline from most abrasion. It handles better then FC and lasts much longer too.
  6. I have a 7'1 M F Omen Black @120$ that I use for exactly what your describing. I love the action of the rod, its close to perfect IMO for a M power do it all. Its great with JBs/topwaters, weightless plastics and CBs under 1/2 oz. I throw 1/4-5/16 jigs/swim jigs, light t rigs, SHs, and 1/4 bladed jigs with it too. The Fate V3 @100$ has the same blank but it has smaller guides then the Omen.
  7. This particular article was specifically about the early Rapalas. It mentioned a particular lake in the South, I want to say it was Florida or Alabama but I'm not certain.
  8. I read somewhere people were renting them out per day at a crazy price especially for the 80's.
  9. I heard about the redesign of the Levante too, dunno about the Orochi.
  10. Lipless/SB Chatterbait/Swim jig Jerbait/Soft JB
  11. You can drill a small hole and fill it with expanding foam. Just make sure the BBs are where you want them to be before you put the foam in.
  12. Not to crazy about braid around wood, but its great for grass. I found that Vicious is awesome for grass and its inexpensive. Its a lower number carrier so its cuts through grass great, but the dia is small for the lb test so it casts more like 8x.
  13. You have to take the estimated dia with a grain of salt in the case of the X5 and X9. I bought some 15lb x9 because its supposed to a similar dia to a 6 or 8lb PE at .14mm. The 10lb smackdown is .20mm and I swear its thinner then the 15lb x9 from feeling it in your fingers at the performance.
  14. Ive been looking at that rod for a while but cant find much info on it. Is it a true fast, slower or faster?
  15. Matt from TB gives a real brief review of the Curado 150 MGL. He kind of describes it as a workhorse that is good for lighter baits. The Chronarchs are pretty nice, but for a few more $ you can get a JDM Met20 which are just awesome reels.
  16. You can use any kind of straight shank, EWG or hybrid worm hook to fish a t rigged DS. The spin/power shot style hooks make things easier if you dont have a dedicated rod. You can just tie one on cut a leader lengths and your ready to go.
  17. Thats the one thing I dont like about the Mozy hook for DS. As long as the hook isn't too big for the bait and the knot is holding the hook at the right angle with the line you shouldn't have issues. Instead of rigging the bait straight on the point rig the bait inline with the shank and eye of the hook.
  18. If I may ask what's your reason for moving away from the Daiwa?
  19. I use a bend of 40lb mono. The trick is it has to be long enough to hold the bait, but short enough so grass cant get stuck between the bait and mono.
  20. If you have the right rod you can go pretty light with the G1 MGL spool. I throw 3.5" easy shiners on a 1/16 head without issues. If you want to throw smaller baits that total less than 1/8 the BFS is the way to go IMO. Not sure how you feel about Kast King, but they have a BFS reel for under $100 that some people really like.
  21. Either a Phenix Maxim or 13s Fate Black or Fate V3. Tackle Tour has a really in depth review of the Maxim and it did really well in just about every category.
  22. The rod you use can make a huge especially when you go lighter then 1/8.
