  1. Not weightless. Weighted and a trick worm and even a senko
  2. 1. I did this last time where it barely came off, and then it didn’t even backlash when it big the ground. The main issue is when I cast (before it hits the ground/water). It starts spoiling as soon as I throw it - maybe because of me whipping it out there - I’ll try advice on #3.
  3. If I do this too much, will it effect my casting distance? I’m using 15lb fluoro with Texas rigged worm
  4. I just bought a Lew’s Mach Smash. I have 3-4 other baitcasters where you open the side and can adjust the centrifugal brakes (usually turning 2 out of the 4 “down”). With this reel, it doesn’t have that - just 5 magnetic circles. I put the magnetic brakes on a 7-8 (where I would normally be at a 4-5) and I get a backlash EVERY TIME. It starts spooling off before it even hits anything. I messed with tension knob but can’t see to figure it out and do what I normally do, but no luck. What am I doing wrong? Is there some other adjustment I can make (like my other centrifugal reels)?
  5. I’ve been fishing for about 5 years (probably once a week except during winter). I’ve caught a lot of fish over my time but really bounce around from lure to lure (taking way too many lures and switching way too often). This year, my goal is to pick 3 lures and try to perfect them over the year: 1. Jig 2. Pop-R 3. Spinnerbait I figured these 3 (with the different colors) should be able to cover different depths and still have success on most waters I fish (small ponds, lakes and creek fishing). Anyone else try to do something similar?
  6. MVP - Paddletail Swimbait Honorable Mention - Ned Rig
  7. Favorite bait: frog Most productive: paddletail swimbait or NED rig Favorite worm: Zoom Trick Worm or Zoom Speed Worm
  8. Paddletail Swimbait Senko / Ned Rig Frog if I cant catch fish using 1 of those, then I would assume there aren’t any fish in that pond ?
  9. I’ve really narrowed it down to these 3: 1. Topwater - Frog OR Whopper Plopper 2. Trick Worm 3. Ned Rig if it gets bad
  10. Chatterbait is always a disappointment for me. Never get much action on them. TRD’s are my go to - surprised you don’t get anything on those. I always know I can throw one of those and catch something.
  11. I struggled last year but have been really successful this year. I have been throwing the soft body plastic frogs (Stanley Ribbit). I switched to a 7’ heavy rod and only missed on one blowup. The rest I landed.
  12. thanks for sharing ... sounds like I should just stick with mono for most of my fishing. I’ve had good success on pretty much every bait with mono ... I just always hear so many people using braid. Honestly, I’ve never really paired up line/rod/reels with what I was using and seem to do fine. Only thing I do is throw my smaller finesse baits (Ned rig, paddletail swimbaits, etc ..) on a spinning combo. Everything else I tend to throw on the baitcaster.
  13. I’ve always just used mono or fluoro but always hear about using braid. I have spinning rods but I prefer to use my baitcaster (7’, heavy, fast). What would be best line for my baitcaster for most types of fishing (Senkos, spinnerbait, cranks etc ...). I throw from bank more so, but do go out on canoe a few times as well. Looking for opinions on braid: 1. Is that the best option? 2. If so: What lb braid? Leader with it? What lb leader (Assuming fluoro)? How long of a leader? Like I said, I’ve never used braid but heard it’s especially better for feeling bites so I wanted to try it - does the leader affect the feel of the bite from braid? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Ned rig TRD. No matter where I go, I’m pretty confident I will catch multiple bass on it.
  15. 1. Ned rig TRD or hellgrammite 2. Small paddletail swimbait 3. Inline spinner (Rooster Tail or Mepps Aglias) 4. Small grub Wildcard - trout magnet (I used this for about 10 minutes the other day and landed 3 sunfish and 2 rock bass - I couldn’t believe it). It was as we were leaving so I might try this again next time I’m out on the creek
  16. Thanks everyone. How far should I position my canoe from the bank to throw/retrieve?
  17. What’s even more odd is that I catch them on random casts out to the middle as opposed to spending a lot of time fishing the coast line under trees.
  18. I’ve always bank fished and had great success using different tackle (Ned rigs, paddletail swimbaits, Crankbaits, stick worms, spinnerbaits etc ...). I just got a canoe and have been out 3x where I only caught 1 bass each time. I slay them from the bank, so I must be doing something wrong because I figured I would catch more from a canoe/kayak/boat. it’s weird because I’ve done better with a whopper plopper and buzzbait from the bank than from the canoe. Are there better lures to use and/or any tips? I try to throw under trees down the lake and fish any docks or wood. How many casts before I move on? Better to use moving baits since I am moving so much? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
  19. Ned Rig Frog Senko
  20. Well, we had 12 bass total. Some decent size ones as well. Here was our breakdown. Thanks to those who shared. 2 - Paddletail Swimbait - Keitech 1 - Small Popper 1 - Beetle Spin (First cast of the day) 4 - 5” Senko 2 - 4” Stick bait 2 - Ned rig
  21. I use jigs a lot and was kind of thinking about trying the bitsy bug jig.
  22. My son and I are going to kayak this smaller lake and they only have smaller bass (a few big ones but not many). As a kid, he just wants to catch bass - What are your top baits to catch “dinks”? We’ve had some luck throwing small paddletail swimbaits. Do you think something like booyah pond spinnerbaits or probably Ned rigs? I’m guessing just smaller profiles. Thoughts?
  23. Curious what’s working for everyone right now. For me, it’s been: 1. Paddletail Swimbait 2. Ned rigged Crawz 3. Crankbait I’m in Kentucky and weather is just now getting into the 80’s. Haven’t done much topwater yet, but looking forward to that (frog and whopper plopper are my two favs).
