I love this site and I enjoy reading everyone's posts (is that sucking up worth about 150 posts - if so I'm in) ...BTW it truly is a great site with a great group of fisher friends.- Please help a newbie
Congratulations on joining the forum, you'll get some great advice here!! Some great advice given on this thread already. I second going to the tackle shop to feel the merchandise and go with a budget in mind. If that experience raises more questions in your mind that's a good thing. Then come on back to the forum and tell us what you found out, what questions you have. Type of bait and budget will play a big role in what is suggested.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)

Very nice nook you have there OnthePotomac.. also I see you have the correct team displayed on the right side of the photo. Of course if they could only play football these days it would be nice ( I had season tickets at RFK during the '80s and it was fun to be there). Need to rethink my office now that I am retired.. this looks like a good start- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
A pencil (cylinder) shape, I used 3/16 1nd 1/4. The trip turned out to be tough fishing.. gorgeous day but the lake/reservoir is 10 feet below normal depth....they are pulling water out of it and the fish are not feeding. got a couple of 1.5 pounders on the rig with a worm. Rage bug had nada.- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
i made a couple last night for my trip tomorrow.. 2/0 and 3/0 EWG Number 3 split ring 3/16 Dropshot weight (I opened the top so it swings freely). Going to put a Rage bug on the 3/0 and a 5150 blood red (this worm floats if it gets off the hook so it should stay above the silt) on the 2/0, Easy once I tried it.- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
you put the weight the wire on the rig and it has a greater possibility of snagging than the J rig if your dragging it. From what I've found is the Tokyo Rig is used more for Punching than dragging or bouncing.- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
Great feedback here thanks everyone. I just did some searching on the net and came across this video, Johnny Johnson is a local Pro here in AZ. Start at 6:50 for the J Rig. This helped too.- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
Thanks folks.. There has been some great feedback on this topic.- Ugly Stick Carbon Spinning Rod
Yes Ugly stick has a great reputation for durability and I agree it is not one that will get talked about by a lot of folks on this forum. I just thought some people would have tried the new all graphite one. It is about the same price as the Shimano Clarus, St Croix Triumph, Abu Vengeance. It is probably the stigma of being perceived as not a serious fisherperson. I agree with Roadwarrior... I would venture to guess it is in more closets and garages than folks will admit too. Thanks for the feedback..?- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
OOOPs.....Thanks... I'll keep the secret now ?- Ugly Stick Carbon Spinning Rod
I just saw a video on the Ugly Stick carbon rod. It is nothing like the US rods I've seen in the past. Has any one used one? I fish what feels good to me. I have Fenwicks, BPS and Exprides. This one really got my curiosity for an $80 rod (6'8")- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
Apparently it looked like a number 2/0 EWG and a pencil weight on a split ring tied to his line. Yup that's it- Is anyone familiar with the "J Rig"
I was out the other day and it was slow going and I turned to my "slow day" savior, the drop shot and it was still slow.. a fellow came about 10 yards away in a kayak and landed what looked like a 4-5 lbs LM. the moved about 5 yards and got another beauty. He paddled over and we were talking and he said he was using a J Rig. He showed it to me and said when his DS isn't working he goes to this. Your thoughts on using the J Rig please.- Rate the song above you
I give it a 9..really cool video and good music- Classic Country & Western
Marty Robbins story tellin' Big Iron- Who's going fishing this weekend?
Weather just changed from gorgeous 80's to mid 40's for the early morning.. I'm to try the Fall bite here in AZ with this weather change on the coming Saturday! Did some trout fishing last week and it was OK.. mostly stockers. With C-19 and folks working from home everyone is on the lake early morning or late afternoon. I thought I would have a leg up being retired now LOL ..not so much now - We haven't done this for a while
