BPS buys SW.
I don't want to start a big debate, but some small businesses can't compete with the pricing of the big box stores and small businesses don't always have the foot traffic of big box stores. BPS was run out of his father's hardware store which gave him an advantage he was able to exploit and he grew slowly, people came in for hardware and were able to browse fishing stuff too (BTW Tackle Warehouse might be the new BPS on the rise). I agree next generation doesn't always want to continue the business or third party buyouts happen. But I would venture a guess that most folks went to the local shop, got the information, touched the toys and then bought at the "other place" to save money. I'm not faulting anyone for wanting to save money, I just believe that the little guy went out of business because no one bought from them after they provided value added information and service.

BPS buys SW.
I understand all the concern over the "merging and expansion" of the big box stores, but we got here because we didn't support our local tackle shops. When I began buying fishing stuff as a kid, I would go to a local tackle store and ask a bunch of questions (most kids did) before I spent my "allowance". As I got older and began fly fishing I again went to local shops and purchased my rods, reel and assorted paraphernalia and asked questions. Yes it cost me more than ordering through the big box stores, but I got real world feedback and information, not even considering hanging around and talking to the other guys in the store and mind you this was in NY and Virginia. Wherever I fished I always went to the local shop even though I would pay a more (sometimes not just a little) but I felt the value was there for the asking. It was nice to touch the rod, fishing net, foul weather gear.. you get my point. Tough to do that today, which makes this site so valuable. Reading everyone's opinion and getting their thoughts is almost like being the store with you (I love the Zoom idea and when I am able I would like to join that too). Today local shops are far and few between and as this thread points out, we are now at the mercy of the big box mergers with very few options. Lets hope for the best with this latest merger.

Using lefty and right baitcasters.
I have both but favor LH. Lots of Fly fishing and Spin fishing with LH retrieve. My first BC was RH and I thought why am I switching.. just go with a Leftie. All my salt water experience wasn't really casting more drop and troll even though retrieve was on the RH side.

A Smile for The Day
couldn't resist putting these up... I need to get in shape... If i were murdered right now my chalk outline would be a circle If my body is ever found on a jogging trail, just know I was murdered elsewhere and dumped there Day 12 of my no chocolate diet... I lost hearing in my right eye I have come to the conclusion that buying fishing stuff and actually using all of it are 2 separate hobbies!

Triumph or HMG?
I had a Triumph for about 3 fishing trips and gave it to a neighborhood kid. I have a 7ft HMG and love it and wife just got me another Fenwick and took it out last week and landed some LM Very good rod for the price. Most folks from back east are very familiar with Fenwick rods. I have also over time found them to be durable.

A Smile for The Day
That is genius... here are a couple of more: “Coronavirus has turned us all into dogs: We roam the house looking for food, we’re told ‘no’ if we get too close to strangers, and we get really excited about car rides and walks.” —Unknown “I’m not saying I’m going to suck at homeschooling my kids but my daughter just asked, ‘Dad, what’s a synonym?’ And I replied, ‘It’s a spice.'” —Joe Heenan “My husband and I switched sides of the bed this weekend and that’s what we call ‘vacation’ now.” —Ilana Glazer “Day 7 of social distancing: Struck up a conversation with a spider today. Seems nice. He’s a web designer.” —Unknown “All the kids who were taught common core math are about to learn ‘carry the one’ from their new home school teacher.” —The Super Mom Life "Just by seeing how some folks wear their masks, I see why contraception fails." " I can't believe people's survival instincts told them to grab toilet paper"

Rate the song above you
No one does this song as well as Social Distortion..... I'll say it is a different take on it and that Johnny Cash might not recognize it as his romantic song to June Carter., but I wouldn't say it's better, just different (Punk) genre! this v.s. this

Light 12v battery for powering fishfinder in kayak
I use the Nocqua to run my Garmin 73SV ususlally for 6+ hours. I have a TwinTroller that uses a 12 volt battery for the dual trolling motors and I didn't want to drain it more with the elcectronics. I have had it a year and I generally go out one or twice a week. Never had a problem.. Light, compact and waterproof!!

Help with Spring Trip to Lake Fork
I'm trying to plan a 4 day trip to Lake Fork Spring of 2021 ( most likely Tues - Sat) and was hoping to find the best time to be there. I have been told last week of March, first weeks of April? There will be 3 or 4 of us going and I looked at a couple of places to stay (see below) and would appreciate it if someone has any recommendations and name of a great guide for us. We'll be flying in and can bring our own equipment but no boat. https://www.vrbo.com/821042?adultsCount=3&arrival=2021-03-23&departure=2021-03-27&unitId=1368980 or https://www.vrbo.com/1338106?adultsCount=4&arrival=2021-03-23&departure=2021-03-27&unitId=1896442 Or anything else you might suggest. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions....We're hoping to have a great fishing trip!

Thank you all!
I joined in June of this year and what a FIND.. I am on everyday to read, share in the information, comradery and good feelings that come from everyone. Not to get to touchy feely, but this is really a group of empathetic folks who appear to not only care about fishing, but each other. I agree it is like going to a local tackle shop and easing into a chair with a cup of whatever and enjoying the moment. Thanks everyone.... Glenn, all the moderators and all the folks who share a love of fishing.

6'6' Fenwick HMX
My wife bought me a 6'6" Fenwick HMX (M) spinning rod. it is rated 1/8-3/4 with a 4-12 line rating. She gave it to me right away since I just bought myself an Omen Black 6'7" medium spinning rod for a drop shot rig. I don't want to disappoint her enthusiasm so my question to all is....will the Fenwick be a good jerk bait rod ?
