  1. George Strait said "I ain't here for a long time, I'm here for a good time" well... it's now it's a good and long time ?
  2. I just looked at a You Tube video by Trey Kistler and he showed the Reel & Feel rod that uses the Toray 800 graphite fused to S2 Glass for a softer tip. Does any one have any experience and/or opinion on these rods?
  3. For the money and what you're looking for the BPS Carbonlite, Johnny Morris Signature, Platinum or Partriot series rods will meet you needs and range in price from $120 - $200 I know they don't have the sexy name recognition, but I own several of these and they are good rods (casting and spinning) I also own and fish Shimano Exprides, they start around $250 plus

  5. Sorry if I seem to be taking the polyanna position with incident #2, since you were leaving anyway, and they could see that because you had your gear in hand, it might help the folks who walked right up to you to ask did they see the fry busting going on and explain to them what that means and that their sudden approach shut them down. Also and that fishing etiquette would put them at least 20 feet from another fisherman. Then wish them good luck and leave. Yes it can be irritating, but we need to help educate some of these newbies, I know when I first started bank fishing I found that most fishermen wanted to help and I would see some of them pretty regularly when I bicycled to the lake or pond. Those lessons carried over to my adult life when I bought a boat and would slow down even in a when I wasn't required to if I was passing close to someone fishing. I traded my 20 footer for a 10 footer recently and I know I appreciate that when it happens to me.
  6. Catch of the Day.. I can't believe he ate the whole thing!
  7. I use a 1/8 ounce belly weighted hook and I Texas rig them with anything from 1/8 to 1/4 oz for 3 inch and up 1/2 oz for 4 inch. Use a M BC rod. When the head gets torn up I cut it off and use as a trailer for jigs. I find it is a pretty effective plastic. Also fills the gap between the 3 inch and 4 inch Rage Bug. The 3inch rage bug is much smaller than the speed vibe.
  8. If you are still concerned you can always wipe your rods down with 303 UV protectant once in awhile. https://www.amazon.com/303-30313-CSR-Protectant-Plastic-Fiberglass/dp/B00KN0UOEE
  9. I live in Phoenix where summer temps get to well over 100 ..granted I'm only on the water 6 hours during the summer time. The rest of the year they are exposed to warm temps and sunshine and I haven't seen any adverse effects on them Now your line can be a different story, I keep my replacement line spools in the house (garage temps can be 100) but my rods and reels stay out there. Generally change my lines end of September each year. Fall Winter and Spring weather doesn't hurt them. But always check for nicks and such after each fishing trip. Keep the rods and reels clean and I thing you'll be OK
  10. I've been a fly fisherman for over 40 years and spin fishing since I'm about 5 (a looong time ago) and so a left handed reel has been very familiar to me. When I started using baitcasters (about 15 years ago I immediately purchased Left handed reels and it feels very comfortable. I have been on trips where the guides had R/H reels and I could use them but it showed me how much more comfortable L/H reels are for me. Go what is comfortable and works for you. If you watch some of the FLW or MLF shows there are pros using a L/H reel.
  11. Johnny Morris (BPS) Carbonlite, Shimano and Pflueger. I've still have a couple of Pro Qualifiers in my arsenal. My latest is the Shimano SLX XT. Mostly Pflueger President for my spinning set ups.
  12. Howdy..congrats on turning it around...
  13. Howdy ..wow 2 great places to go fishing...have fun
  14. Welcome Jerry..one old dude to another .. glad you're getting back into it...fish don't live in ugly places... if they're not biting enjoy the view..
  15. i wear a cowboy hat for head and neck coverage, a gaiter for my face if I'm not wearing sunscreen, a Reel Life shirt 98% sun blocking and a short sleeve nylon over that for pockets (gotta put the cigar someplace) Columbia fishing pants and fingerless uv gloves. This past week it got to 107 by 2:00 pm yours truly was off the water by noon (only 100). Been fishing like this awhile and at 72 no skin cancer (TG) and only a few wrinkles. You only get one shot a taking care of your skin..protect yourself https://reellifegear.com/ https://www.columbia.com/mens-pfg-backcast-convertible-pant-1543971.html
  16. If you're only using it for that purpose and 1/4oz is what you're throwing ML will work. But if you want to use it for a variety of techniques I would go with a medium and consider a fast tip. I use a BPS carbonlite rod (original and 2nd generation) and find them sensitive enough. I would go with the 10# line. BPS carbonlite rods and above are solid rods.
  17. Looking for a spinning set up for Ned and dropshotting. Nice video..I saw you went from a R/H reel to L/H reel. I use a L/H myself. Just feels more natural after years of fly fishing and using spinner rigs for Blue fish back east. Thanks for the heads up on MC being"non responsive" I was looking at the Corzza and the MS1. I never thought of a L or ML BC rod .. I'll really have to look into that. One of the lakes I go to a 2-2.5 is considered a Big fish with average being 1-1.5. It could be fun there.
  18. Thanks everyone I think I'll look into them for a deop shot rod. Any suggestions are welcomed.
  19. Someone just told me about a JDM rod called Major Craft. Has anyone used these rods and have an opinion?
  20. I often hit the lakes at safe light and fish until about 10AM during June, July and August . I've had some great mornings Ned rig fishing and then switching to creature bait Texas rigged. It is just great to be out on the water. Around 10 the pleasure boaters and Skidoo folks show up and it is time to leave. I traded my Sea Ray 180 for a 10 ft TwinTroller, Easier for me to launch and haul by myself, but i still get to enjoy a cigar and cast a line. I will take a ride up to the Rim to catch a couple of the lakes up there for Bass and Trout.
  21. I had played with a friends SLX before I got my slx XT and I've only had it a few days, but having gone out with it and tuned it to my casing style.. I really like it better. I can really fine tune the brakes without sacrificing casting distance. I also like the finish on the reel better. The deciding factor for me was the adjustment available on the brakes, I think I can get it tuned so I can skip docks too without the dreaded backlash more often than not. Both are excellent reels, but for $30 more i went with the XT. Truth be told I never tried the DC, but this gets me close and I don't forget to use the old thumb control on my other reels. ?
  22. I just got my SLX XT this past Friday and went out with a 6' 6" rod and had used it to pitch to some light stuff... pitched like a dream. 2 Brakes on and set on just one click lighter than 5. I had spooled it with some 12# Suffix Advance mono i had laying around. Will probably change it.. but was anxious to try it the reel... glad I made the purchase.
  23. Thanks guys..I really appreciate the feedback. MY personal best (10lbs 8oz) was caught on a Carbonlite MH (black model) with a PQ n it. I don't regret having at least 8 of these in my fishing arsenal. I get out quite often since here in AZ we have the ability to wet a line 12 months of the year, not always productive... but hey I'm out fishing.. a sandwich, cigar, and sun sometimes interrupted by a fish tugging on my line..now that's living. I'd love to read more opinions... again..many thanks
  24. Bass Pro Johnny Moriss rods like Carbonlite, Signature Series, Patriot etc are rarely compared to - Shimano, Daiwa, Duckett, St Coix etc.Ijhave Cronlite rods (black and CBlite 2), Fenwick and recently bought a Shimano Exdpride. I often wonder what some of my fellow fisherman think of the BCP brand rods. Tackle Warehouse and stores like that never compare the BCP rods because they don't sell those rods. The one I have have stood up over time but curious about other's opinions on sensitivity etc. I have had no breakage issues with either the casting or spinning models. Just asking the community their thoughts on the Carbonlite and up series of rods. I may have spent to much on my Expride?????? Your thoughts please
