St Croix Avid Spinning Rods
I have the 7ft 2pc Avid med fast. I love it. Soft plastics will be good

good eyesight is important in topwaters, right? less so for crankbaits?
Those WPloppers have great hooks and yet ive had one bounced around enough to call travelling. I believe its the smallest ones that dribble it

Smallmouth Ned Rig (Braid Concerns)
Im not throwing a lot of stuff over 1/2 oz for smallies, and most of it is around 1/4 oz including lead and/or plastics. If thats the kinda stuff your using then i would recommend a 7' or so Medium Light rod with a fast tip on it. And bring the reel if youre going to go handle it before you buy it. And definately pút braid on that real. Start practicing a leader on it. Use which ever one you are best at. FG is great but is easy to do badly, the uni to uni is simple to do and has won a lot of money.

Best spinning reel for around $100?
BG 3000 I prefer the bigger size for the line pick up. But it is heavier than almost everything else if thats a concern.

Northern Lights
As a much younger man prone to mischief, given a chance, and having spent the day skiing Lake Louise with my 2 brothers. All of us streaming on mushrooms, and otherwise, sitting in the outdoor pool of the nearby Radium Hotsprings while the northern lights flashed around us. Happy Mothers Day

Medium light action
I have a few ponds that have produced 4# largemouth but its rage and the ownership of the property has change at most.

Fishing A Rocky Bottom River
Yes Light wire hooks 1/16 to 1/8 oz split shot 1.5# drag on spinning gear 12# to 17# mono leader to braid. No Football head Heavy wire hooks Fluorocarbon Casting upriver with a slow speed a heavy weight I know I am deep enough when my jig hits a rock, I have to lift it right away or risk losing it in the next few moments. But thats the job.

If only one jig....what would it be?
First off, I think everyone is expressing their observation in their circumstance. But my circumstance may be different (I fish 99% smallies on fly and spinning gear in Ontario rivers.) Thus my experience and opinion should be way different than someone in Texas. Not that we arent both right.

Pink vs Yellow for Line Watching
I've tried red (it turned pick) and prefer hi vis yellow by a long shot.

What rod/reel caught your PB?
When I think of the age of a 20" smallie I think of all the lures they've seen and wondered ....why mine?
-
Plum vs. Red Bug Worm Color ?
On Canada Day I throw a red one. I think that counts.

Need a 16in Bass in 2 Days
Either fish extremely fast or extremely slow.
-
What applications, if any do you prefer mono for and which do you prefer fluro for?
Mono leaders on everything except when I use the fly rod for streamers.

What rod/reel caught your PB?
Picresize.com OMG those pigs were on hair jigs?

New to Bass Fishing
Your years of chasing trout should help. Smallies are alot like trout but add a touch more drag and watch out for the aerial assaults. It's a blast on the river!
-
What rod/reel caught your PB?
I love mono leaders too. Edit - StC Avid AVS70MF2 and a Daiwa BG3000 wuth 15# - 832 and a 17# mono leader 22" river smallie and all that.
-
Has it been your experience that in spring, when the sun disappears the bite does too?
Your smallies moved. They do that with a quickness.
-
I always hear people say that smallmouth will hit moving baits all the way down into the low 50s, but I have not found this to be the case at all

Help me catch first smallie!
For a number of years my brother has fished trout out of the mountains around Calgary AB. he humbled me on his turf.
