  1. When it comes to swim jig fishing, weight is something that confuses me. Jeremy is advocating for AT LEAST 1/2 oz. I recently watched a video by Mr. Swim Jig Tom Monsoor and he said he rarely (never?) uses anything other than 1/4 oz for swimming a jig. I feel like I'd have to reel way too fast or be fishing 20+ feet of water to be throwing 1/2 oz.
  2. Agree- I'd have a hard time calling this one a MHF. It's got some serious backbone imo...
  3. They'll work either way, but they are designed to be lighter side down....
  4. I need something that's less than 7' though. The dock skipping rod is a good idea though- I remember seeing a Tatula Elite 6'9" that may work! No- only carry 6'9" and 6'10". 7' is just a hair to long for the rod storage cabinet. Bought one, sent it back right away. That thing was terrible- maybe it was just the SUPER short handle on that thing, but it felt really heavy. The handle was shorter than the 6'6" medium casting rod I have.
  5. This is one of the more bananas statements I've ever read. Lol without trailers that's like a $500 investment... Zero fish!?!?
  6. A frog is not something I throw often by any stretch, but there are a few situations where I'd like to have one available. I'm looking to put together a setup that will serve that purpose when necessary, but also be able to be used for a variety of other purposes. Moving to a "Heavy" action stick will severely limit what I'm able to use this setup for (1/2 oz jig, Swimbaits, Frog is just about it), so do any of you use a standard Medium Heavy- Fast action stick successfully for frogs? I am looking at the Daiwa Tatula Bass models to be specific- 6'10" Medium Heavy vs 7'1" Heavy. Also, the 610 fits in my rod storage on the boat, the 710 does not. Opinions welcome- I'm probably leaning toward the H. Even if I went with the MH, it's going to have a jig or frog tied on 95% of the time. I'm just annoyed/worried about the storage/travel aspect. I only carry a few sticks with me (3-4 max), and none of them are over 7'.
  7. This is like the pro golf argument. Guys will be a +1 or +2 handicap, in the top percentile of the worlds golfers, and think they have what it takes to compete on the PGA tour, or beat an LPGA Tour pro. No chance, I'd venture this argument is the same.... you may think you have it, but you really have no idea how far off you really are.... That's a different argument. Anyone can get lucky for a day or run into a few good ones.... I figured we were talking about competing against them day in and day out and making a living...
  8. When you feel something, make sure the line is tight and slam it home. It's simple... What?
  9. I just spent a week at a lake in northern MN where the entire shoreline is lined with good reed patches. I did not leave those reeds and I did not take a Jackhammer out of my hands the entire week...
  10. I like a standard HS speed (around 30 IPT) myself. I don't often find myself in water deeper than 12'. I tried the Tatula SV HS reel at 28" IPT because i thought it would be a good medium, but found it wasn't fast enough for me. No experience with that particular rod but I found the AirD-X line to be just a tad softer than the tatula line so that would make sense! It sounds like it- I love a versatile rod! I see they can be had on *** Fishing for $150 shipped!
  11. Thanks, appreciate it. I've noticed such a difference in success rates on this bait with the rod I want to make the right decision. My 6'9" MH Vendetta Fast rated 1/4-1 oz was great but I had a Fenwick HMG 7' MH 3/8-1 oz and a Tatula Bass 6'10" MH Fast 1/4-1 oz and both of those were not good for this purpose!
  12. That's good info. If I'm sticking to a 3/8 oz chatterbait, should I consider the 703c instead or just go right to the 704?
  13. I'm looking for a good chatterbait rod in the $125-175 range. I'd prefer it to be less than 7 feet, but I've figured out 6'6" is too short. Fast action is preferred just to keep some versatility, but it will be 95% chatterbaits. I'm currently using a 6'9" MH Fast action Abu Garcia Vendetta- it's actually been an awesome setup for fishing chatterbaits but wanting to see if I can find something a bit lighter and more sensitive.
  14. Rage swimmers are pretty much equal to me in how they fish. Not as many colors as Keitech the only drawback imo
  15. Jackhammer, Bhite Delite, with a rage menace...... My fishing has been limited this year, busy summer, but I can probably count on one hand the number of casts I've taken with something else this year....
  16. Sun's shining....birds chirpin.... it's gonna be a beautiful day it's plain to see. Anytime I hook up is just a bonus....
  17. I've gotten multiple Tatula SV on ebay for $160... you cannot get a better reel for the money than that...
  18. Rage Craw
  19. 3 hours or so... lucky to get out once a month this summer...
  20. Chartreuse Black Back
  21. I think I would consider those basically the same weight..... Once you add the hook and bait, 1/16th of an ounce is probably not making much of a difference in how it falls or fishes....
  22. I would have grabbed my anchor, tossed it high in the air, and made as much noise as possible splashing into the water where he was fishing. Might have accidently crossed his line and got tangled too so he had to waste some time dealing with that... whoops...

I've had a tube sitting in my bag all year and haven't used it yet. Is this something that you really want to apply right before throwing it in the water, or would there be some benefit to throwing it on the night before and letting the jig soak it up a bit...
  24. Ritual? No Lucky Charm? Absolutely- black and blue jig
  25. Reading the comments on TW for these and seems to be a known issue, the eye basically pulls apart. I've never seen one actually break like OP though...
