New PB!
Got a big 'un! Weighed 9lb 1oz at its lightest but was in a hurry with the scale because wanted to release quickly. Make your own opinion about the size! 24 inches length. Not a bite for five hours beforehand! The lure I used is attached also. Nichols Pulsator metal flake spinnerbait in 3/8 ounce single colorado blade. Slow rolled on the bottom 12 feet of water. Not sure the exact color. Best of luck to you all! Tight lines!

Preference on number of jig strands
Hey ya’ll, Hope everyone’s enjoying the holiday sales and keeping the bait monkey happy as must be done. Been thinking about ideal numbers of jig strands. What is y’all’s preference for big fish? What about for numbers? Does this change with the seasons? Conventional wisdom seems to say that more strands = bigger profile = bigger appeal to big bass. “In Pursuit of Big Bass” by Bill Murphy that I read disagrees. I believe more strands could help hide a hook but could perhaps make the jig look more unnatural? Or does more strands create a more believable profile? Lots of questions that I’ll try to figure out on the water too. Interested to hear y’alls thoughts. Nate

Nichols Metal Flake Spinnerbaits
Nichols has it as an option on their website for a single willow blade apparently. I'm intrigued. Think that would be an ultra-subtle spinnerbait in a 1/4 oz. But yes, I own a couple electrum pulsator spinnerbaits and am very impressed by their design. They catch fish too. Heard about nichols from this website. Thanks for your comment.

Nichols Metal Flake Spinnerbaits
Hey ya’ll, Was thinking of purchasing some bluegill metal flake spinnerbaits from Nichols Lures. Probably single Colorado or single willow. My thought was that the metal flake blades would be more subtle than other flashy blades. Anyone else’s experience on the water match this and anyone like using the metal flake blades? Or should I go for something different? Hope everyone’s well. Nate

When stuff isn’t working
The bane of my existence. Unless it's a beetle spin, I'm hardly catching fish on it.

When stuff isn’t working
Love this answer. Except I’m almost always throwing something with bottom contact ??. I’m even reluctant to throw a topwater in low light situations right now unless I really really think they will hit it based on what I see happening on the surface.

When stuff isn’t working
Hey ya’ll, Just curious what you guys do when a technique you’re using is not working. I’m not looking for the answer “change places/change depth/keep moving.” If you know that whatever lure you are throwing is not getting bites period, what do you change? Do you switch lure type entirely (e.g jig to crankbait)? Do you switch colors? Do you switch the action on whatever you are throwing (ribbontail worm to straight tailed worm)? Do you change weight? What goes through your mind?

Speed worms as swim jig trailers?
I like it. I have some rage menace’s but that shell cracker has nice bulk and profile to it. Thanks!

Speed worms as swim jig trailers?
Thanks for the reply. I have not fished paddle tail swimbaits or speed worms a whole lot, but from what I remember, a speed worm thumped much much harder than a paddle tail Swimbait so that was my idea on using them for swim jigs. The speed worm I used was the zoom original speed worm. When I finally get out to fish again in the next couple of weeks I’ll give the speed worms a shot. Thanks for your recommendation of trailer as well. I’ll take a look

Speed worms as swim jig trailers?
Hey ya’ll, I’ve been looking to step up my swim jig game and I’ve arrived at the conclusion that the trailer matters infinitely more than the jig when it comes to swim jigs. After some research, I’ve concluded that while chatterbaits should control the action of the trailer, trailers should control the action of a swim jig. Would y’all agree with my research? An idea that I had was to put a speed worm or something else with a lot of thump to get the swim jig moving. What’s ya’lls favorite trailer? Hope everyone’s well.

Hair/Rubber Jigs on the Market
Hey ya’ll, I was doing some research on jig skirts and what exactly they do for a jig and ran into an interesting post by WRB back in 2012. He asked people their opinion of the purpose of jig skirts and then offered his own. He also listed a history of jig skirts and said that hair or rubber skirts have worked best for him. Others also said elsewhere that today’s silicone skirts are merely eye catchers, not true fish catchers. What’s your opinion on this? But most of all, do y’all know good, weedless hair or rubber jigs I can try? I’m truly interested. Does Siebert make something like this by chance? I don’t have the resources to make my own jigs where I’m at, let alone the knowledge to do so. Thanks for reading and hope everyone’s well.

Advantages of lighter baitcasters?
Thanks for the comments ya’ll. I have barely thrown lipless; it’s hard for me to remember how they behave and I’ll research it more. The other comments were also very helpful. What can I say? I feel a need for speed. I will wisen up to some of the advantages of slower reels.
-
Advantages of lighter baitcasters?
Thanks for the input and info! I’m curious about your thinking on some of this. Why do you prefer a slower reel for cranks and why do you think an 8 speed is too fast for spinnerbaits, some soft plastics, etc.? I’m genuinely curious. I’m young and still very much learning. I just believe in a faster reel at the moment to reel in slack quickly and reduce time spent reeling back between casts to shoreline cover.

Advantages of lighter baitcasters?
Hey ya’ll, Just curious what advantages you believe a lighter baitcaster offers and any disadvantages you feel that using one entails. I am not too knowledgeable on the consequences of reel weight. Also, if you have any recommendations for a fast reel (GR of 8 or higher) that I can use for jigs, some soft plastics, spinnerbaits, lipless, etc., shoot me a message and I’ll take a look. I’d really appreciate it. Tight lines!

Hello everyone
Hey ya’ll, Great to be here. A little about me... I’m a college student who fishes whenever I can. When at college, I’m fishing in the northeast; at home, I fish in the southeast. I fish in a kayak at home and off the bank at college. I have mostly caught largemouth but I will be learning to catch smallmouth up north as well. As young as I am, I may not have much to offer ya’ll, but I will try to share anything interesting and I really appreciate learning from ya’ll. Shout outs to Catt and Lo n Slo, I have learned quite a bit from some of your posts.
