  1. Different ways to interpret his question. I think all interpretations are welcome. There were some responses that were definitely not finesse
  2. How do you fish that? Curious
  3. Nichols Pulsator single colorado in silver flash
  4. I recently posted on another thread that in 2021 I wanted to get to learn other lures more, namely the fluke. I've decided that instead for 2021, I'm going to focus on a couple of lures. I do not have many confidence baits, and I think this is a result of me in the past thinking that there is a lure for every situation. I now think that there is a presentation for every situation. I'm going to focus on the spinnerbait and the lipless crank for 2021. I like big fish, so the styles of spinnerbaits and lipless cranks will be geared towards this. The bait monkey shall not best me.
  5. Yes, absolutely. I am relatively new to them. Experimented with them when the spinnerbait bite died off for me this winter. I had success fishing them in grass by hopping them like a jig through the grass a little bit, NOT ripping them at this point. After a few hops, lift the crank enough to break free of the grass. If it does not break free, apply more pressure until it rips free. You may have to double pump it free of the grass. Though my experience is limited, I do not think that ripping them aggressively on the first pull is attractive in winter. Hopping, I would not worry about feeling the crank vibrate. But when you try to pull the crank free of the grass, I would at least make sure it is vibrating softly then. I had luck on delta craw, but I am eagerly awaiting a couple of Knock-N-Traps in toledo gold as recommended by Catt on some post. I expect great things from lipless in the prespawn.
  6. I do believe small details have big effects. Consider the small differences between one brand senko and another. There are some days when throwing one particular type of senko will make all the difference in the world in my opinion. Yet it is difficult, at least for me, to see the visual differences in action. But they are there. I also believe that one lure is not equal to another just because they are identical market copies. Scratches and subtle differences in color make a difference, and I dont think a pristine painted lure is better than one scratched up. I dont think this means we have to go crazy about lures. I do think it means that small differences in presentation make a big difference to some fish under some conditions.
  7. Zoom z craw was a standout for me
  8. Please share your successes throwing them this year! If there's one thing that I've learned this past year, it's that I should have been throwing them a whole lot more. I will be experimenting with rolling heavier custom spinnerbaits with small, single colorado blades in addition to the lighter single colorado ones I already have. My own bait I tell myself that I will throw but don't is the fluke. Gonna throw a magnum sized one more this year.
  9. I like single colorado. Take a look at twin arm spinnerbaits too. I will be trying those next winter.
  10. Thanks for the recommendations ya’ll. I’ll look into each of them.
  11. Hey ya’ll, Hope you all have had a wonderful start to 2021 and are doing well. While I certainly have some goals for learning new techniques in 2021, my main goal for 2021 is to learn more about the fish bass chase and the structure that bass hold on. With that said, do ya’ll have any recommendations on resources to learn about these topics? I’m not picky on format. Can be online, books, videos, whatever. I’d also prefer something that focuses on baitfish that inhabit small ponds and lakes, not shad, since I mostly fish these small type ponds and lakes. But I’d love something on shad too!
  12. Great post, thank you A-jay! I’m stage 3! After the big ones. Someday I want to be in stage 5 but I often feel I ain’t qualified enough to do it. When others have wanted to go fishing with me, I have done my best to teach them while still fishing myself. In retrospect, every so often I should have just put down the rod and paid full attention to them. Early happy New Years!
  13. On it Tom! ?
  14. Ya’ll will get a pretty good idea of me from this one. So it was the day of prom my senior year, and I had just finished cleaning up my older sister’s car that I was using while she was away. Had it all pretty for prom and stuff. But then I had a few hours to spare. So I said screw it I’m going fishing. Around this time for whatever reason I had a fascination with twitching floating crankbaits on the surface. I get out to the lake and about 30min in I hear a splash in the water like a gunshot. So I think “man that’s a big fish idk what it is but it sounds fun”. I cast my crankbait out and start twitching it back to me. I think this thing was like a DT-4 or something. I follow the splashes and.... a catfish jumps out of the water to attack my crankbait! I’m in a panic, I feel it back in quick as I can, when I get it next to me I have no idea what to do with it, the line broke and the line was simply wrapped around the fish which was the only thing that allowed me to reel it in. I untangle the fish and it swims away. Biggest fish I’d ever seen in my short time fishing (it wasn’t really that big of a channel car). Then I go back to the house where I launched and babble about this giant fish that attacked my crankbait and I hurry my myself up and go to prom. There you go that’s my crazy fish story.
  15. That’s a blessed image. My favorite is when I would be the first one off the boat ramp in the summertime and I would have the cove all to myself for the first 15 minutes. Water all glassy and sun not quite up.
  16. “Oh” or “oop” or “ope”. You get the idea.
  17. That’s one fish you wouldn’t have caught if you’d stayed home! I’m with you though on the cold. I broke through a ton of ice in a canoe on a pond just to get out yesterday. Morning temp was 16 degrees. Not even a bite ?. edit: the 16 degrees was overnight and into early morning. I went out in afternoon. I know my limitations.
  18. I had good luck hopping the 6th sense divine swim jig through grass earlier this year. It comes through quite well and has a flat bottom. I am liking the skinny bear pro signature jig for most everything else. Haven't thrown another jig that comes across wood as well. Siebert's sniper jig has worked great too, though,
  19. Thank you very much and Merry Christmas! Wish you all the best.
  20. I learned a little about fishing from a man who lives on a private lake. He had me troll around in a kayak backwards with a sinking fly attached. I would catch a lot of fish like that before I learned anything about spinning gear and such. Once I fell in love with bass fishing, I was on my own. But this man got me started ?. This is the fish I caught about 4 years ago. My first.
  21. Thanks very much for posting this. Gives me a lot of perspective.
  22. Thank you! Hopefully my next one is on one of your jigs! Have enjoyed tossing them.
  23. Perfect! The fish give me a ride? Nah she didnt pull me that much. Pulled out a good amount of my drag though lol. Love the yak!
