  1. And me in college. I told that teachin lady, the only crayons I need are green pumpkin, junebug, and black n' blue.
  2. I like rapala, zoom, and nichols for baits. Just brands that have stuck out to me over time. Heck idk about other stuff. I like my fenwick rods
  3. THIS x100. Only knot I've used that will outlast my FG knot. I have not tried all of them of course. The name is the double improved clinch knot.
  4. Pline CXX Power pro superslick Kast King Royale Legend Elite. I dunno know man, it just works for me. The drag on my tatula 100 And a controversial one......... pline fluoroclear. I'm waiting for it to give me an issue. It hasn't yet and love it so far. I use it as leader only.
  5. Mepps comet mino
  6. Yup. Single colorado and double indiana for me. Have to buy indiana's because I use Nichols and they no longer make a double indiana. Single colorado = slower or helicopter. Downsized double indiana = faster and higher in water column. I am liking zoom split tail trailer
  7. That's crazy. Wow. Thanks for the info. When I got some pork frogs an older gentlemen told me to swim them on the back of some hair jigs he gave me. Early winter. Thought he was crazy, but seems I should have listened.
  8. Thank you for mentioning this and for correcting my limited interpretation of a jig. Yeah, I shouldn't pigeonhole jigs.
  9. Winter PB put up a great short fight. Mostly bulldogged deep. Head shake at boat. I thought it was around 6 pounds until it shook its head. Figured it was big because of the ultra subtle bite on a spinnerbait, had no idea how big. When it shook its head I couldn't believe the size. Seeing big bass through the internet nowhere near compares to them in person. I thought my first six pounder was a giant.... lol. Basically though the bite is more of an indication to me to the size of the bass rather than the fight. The more subtle the bite, the bigger the fish for me.
  10. That is crazy to imagine. Pressured bass are keeping up with the progression of technology. Ain't being sarcastic; I can see why it might seem like I am.
  11. Something that sticks out to me is that I have rarely used billed crankbaits. Are they worth it? There are many techniques I still have not tried. The one billed crankbait I use somewhat frequently and will always use is the shad rap. It was my first confidence bait.
  12. I'm curious about people's thoughts about jigs on this list. Lot of people seem to day yes, since in bright sun bass seem to hold tighter to cover and roam less and jigs are great for fishing cover slow. At the same time though, jigs are only meant to create the illusion of a crawfish by kicking up bottom debris to mask the profile of a jig. At least to my understanding. Clouds/darkness could help conceal a jig too. I'm sure water clarity plays a role too. @WRB or anyone else?
  13. Gerald Swindle: "A brown one. I'll throw black if it's muddy. If they dont bite the brown, then ill go to the black, if they dont bite the black, then ill go back to throwin the brown." That seminar is awesome, by the way.
  14. Track runners rise up. ? Edit: On topic of thread, I fish a super clear manmade reservoir a lot right now and there are walls surrounding the shore that people fish from. Often, I've found sitting on the wall helps to maintain a low profile and get my rod closer to water when needed to make baits run deeper.
  15. Had a day on a gin clear lake where I noticed that the fish would only hit on a silent entry. Think it depends on the mood of the fish.
  16. Last post before shutdown
  17. All love but the irony of that statement and your signature is very amusing.
  18. I'm of the opinion that line visibility does matter for older bass. I do think line diameter matters for these fish on a bright day with little cover. I also think that 20lb braid and other braid can catch some fish just fine even in gin clear water. It is hard to know what bites you are missing when you are still catching them. It may not be many, but it could be larger fish. In stained/muddy water, it makes sense to me that line visibility shouldn't be as big an issue.
  19. Thanks KP Duty, Hammer 4, and 00bullitt for the suggestions
  20. This is very sad. Im a young buck. Hard not to look up to Mr. Houston. I have two books by him. Will send prayers to the Houston family.
  21. I like this. As much I don't like fluoro, haven't had a bad experience with seaguar. Abrazx could be the ticket for my particular situation with the riprap while still maintaining sensitivity. Thanks for your other tips as well. I'm cheap; sometime after this line has worn out i will spool on fluoro and give it another shot.
  22. Thanks for all your comments. My setup is 30lb braid to about a 6ft 12lb mono leader. My reel is a 5:4:1. I may try straight braid, but I am fishing in a lot of riprap so that may prove to be an issue. Also thanks for the tip on varying the retrieve Captain Phil. I have seen you post on slow rolling spinners before. Sometimes I think it's all I want to do. Know of someone secondhand in Virginia who trophy fished for bass and had more citations of 8+ lbers than anyone else at the time. Only bait he threw was a 1 oz single colorado.
  23. Thanks for the comment! I do the same. One of my main preferences for baitcasters over spinning actually. Edit: Whoops read your post too quick, my apologies. While I do run the line over my index finger, I do not employ my thumb. I will try this next time im out.
